That is when they lost me. I am so old I had

Fortran: which led to
Basic: which led to Commodore 64
Which led to cartridges
Which led to floppy disks and FD player
Which led to IBM getting into the PC market
Which led to an unknown language and process becoming the standard,
Which led to all of us Amateurs being chocked out of the home computer market.

Had one of those... I think it was the Tandy 1000 SL,.

Monochrome monitor, no hard drive, 300 baud manual connect modem. Oh, and no Video Card/Adapter.

Took me 30 mins to download a picture. So we had ASCII pics!

Went outside, rode my town and country board....

/sigh

I really miss those times.

My first computer was a Radio Shack co-co color computer with cassette tape external storage.

I think my stepdad had a Tandy 1000EX??

I could only ever get a printing program to work on it, but I was a kid so that was fun. Printing on the dot matrix printer less so. Very noisy.

The next machine had Wolfenstein on it.

Do you remember the Vic 20 and Dosshell?
At school we used the Nimbus RM

Did you ever use pole and peek commands? I used them with an end function and loop to make a hypnosis program.

u/TowTruckRebel 6h ago

Sorry... its been a while since I used DOS lol

u/TowTruckRebel 5h ago

Big fat phony... lol

I am old enough to have seen the evolution of personal computers and gaming consoles.

I was 6 when I got my first gaming system, the Atari Pong, brand new in the box and only out for about a year at that point.

I was 15 when Windows 1 came out and haven't had to use DOS since.

So forgive me if I couldn't remember what direction the slash leans, I was 15 when I started smoking weed and have smoked a lot since then so some things that have no impact on my life today like the way a slash goes / or \ in DOS is not a priority in my memory bank lol

3

u/Evenmoardakka 5h ago

its a gif, its just making fun of the inverted slash, calm down

1

u/TowTruckRebel 5h ago

I am calm, feeling real old now but calm lol

The internet is for jokes, man, it's ok. Okay it's for porn. But there's jokes, too.

1

u/Workinforweekends 2h ago

And porn jokes.

1

u/WitlessPedant 5h ago

/ is superior, anyway. Microsoft can keep their weird escape slash thing.

1

u/Silent_Working7569 4h ago

It's called backslash.

u/SlurmBigPerm 3h ago

Thank you, I was about to throw my phone, which given my age probably would have broken a joint somewhere

Instead of having to use the symbols you can just go cd dos and then cd run
