Which led to floppy disks and FD player
Which led to IBM getting into the PC market
Which led to an unknown language and process becoming the standard,
Which led to all of us Amateurs being chocked out of the home computer market.

Technically maybe. But the IBM-PC ran on PC-DOS. It likely dwarfed MS-DOS in usage until the Compaqs and similar started coming on the market.

I worked on one of the original IBM PCs in 1982. Right out of college. No subdirectories! Everything in the root! My computer has a 5MB hard drive installed. It was state of the art!

I was working in tech support with the brand new IBM PC XT, with the exciting new 10 MB hard drive.

There was no Windows yet, and we did not even have mouses. Or is that mice? Meeces? Not sure.

But I discovered in high-school that windows 98 had no security around opening dos...which allowed me to place games on a couple shared network drives so I'd always have access.

Good times

They tried to blame the network crashing on my games... but my mom worked in tech so that was fun

I remember CP/M. Supported it on Kaypro 10 luggables for a few years.

People would try to start games from inside Windows when if first came out, but real gamers knew that Windows just slowed everything down just to get a GUI, so we exited windows (if we even installed it in the first place) and just used DOS.

I forget; was it Windows 95 that first offered game features like DirectX that made it worth while to run games within Windows?

Seriously… I have 22 year old coworkers who are trying to act all jaded and shit like they’ve been through 5 tours of Vietnam because they’ve been at work for 8 months.

If you had to go into tunnels to avoid German bombers - yeah you’re old. If you remember using windows XP it’s highly unlikely your peers have died outside of car accidents and overdoses.
