Technically maybe. But the IBM-PC ran on PC-DOS. It likely dwarfed MS-DOS in usage until the Compaqs and similar started coming on the market.

I worked on one of the original IBM PCs in 1982. Right out of college. No subdirectories! Everything in the root! My computer has a 5MB hard drive installed. It was state of the art!

I was working in tech support with the brand new IBM PC XT, with the exciting new 10 MB hard drive.

There was no Windows yet, and we did not even have mouses. Or is that mice? Meeces? Not sure.

Like Robinson Caruso, as primative as can be.

Ohh i rember the firs time a tried a mouse...

🤯. It all changed for me then. The possibilties where endless.

It got a semi bad start with wolfenstein3d

but then DOOM!

But I discovered in high-school that windows 98 had no security around opening dos...which allowed me to place games on a couple shared network drives so I'd always have access.

Good times

They tried to blame the network crashing on my games... but my mom worked in tech so that was fun

I remember CP/M. Supported it on Kaypro 10 luggables for a few years.

The joke there was that they were boat anchors.... but would probably float if thrown in the lake.

My exposure to CP/M was on Amstrad PCWs, with their green text and 3" discs

My parents got me a brand new Texas Instruments computer when I was 9 and a subscription to some computer magazine that had programs in basic that you had to type out. Some of these were like pages long and were awesome when they worked. I remember a skiing game that was pretty cool. But the majority of times I would like type a 0 instead of O and hours and hours of time just wasted. Sigh.
