Why I started r/nyctakeout

I had ramen today. It came neatly packed - noodles and toppings separated, broth sealed tightly in a ziplock bag to prevent spillage. Every single little detail taken care of.

This was ramen Ippudo, a restaurant that I first came across 7 years ago when I first visited NYC to look at colleges. I was intimidated back then by all the people in that restaurant, how different they were to me and how much more established and proper they seemed in comparison to my teenage self.

And yet I remember feeling optimistic. That I too one day could be in a restaurant like that talking business with a client, having lunch with a friend, or simply enjoying my own company. I liked being in that restaurant - so full of life and in one of the greatest cities in the world.

7 years later and I’m still optimistic. It’s been 8 months since I’ve been to a restaurant, but I know that beauty is still there in all the great restaurants that I’ve been to. Beauty in the people, in the food, in all the little details that these restaurants take care of so well and so pridefully. I know that eventually, I’ll get to go again, and enjoy that beauty with friends and lovers.

I needed ramen today.

TL;DR, I started this subreddit to capture and allow others to express the beauty of NYC restaurants.

Indian Food

When did Indian takeout get so expensive?? $25 for a basic dish, $8 for naan? I see prices raising for inflation across other takeouts like Chinese but the Indian takeout price seems extreme

Best reliable sushi takeout?

Looking for solid, reliable sushi for takeout or delivery- needs to be fresh, not too expensive, and near the Upper East Side. Doesn't need to be fancy, just looking for something delicious!

Kitchen Residency In Williamsburg - on doordash and uber eats

Hey All!

My business partner and I just launched our kitchen residency in Williamsburg! We're both restaurant veterans with a combined 30 years experience, and have experience in top kitchens such as Le Bernadin and Momofuku, as sous chefs and managers.

Our concept is Brazilian American Street food, very approachable bar style food to fit the bar we're located in called Please Tell Me, located at 749 Metropolitan Ave.

After years of slaving away for others in restaurants in nyc, we decided to try our luck with our own residency and it definitely hasn't been easy. Any and all support would be greatly appreciated.

Hot sauce used in Chinese take out restaurants ?

Its not Sriracha, and I've been trying to figure it out for years.

I tried using the hot sauce packets (can't find a bottle) but that doesn't seem to be what they use with the food.

Anyone know what kind of hot sauce they do use ?

I'm trying to find a sushi place I went to near Madison Square Garden

I've been trying so hard to find it. It's a small restaurant, a really small restaurant, the kind of hole in the wall place that's easy to miss. It doesn't have a lot of seating options so I guess they're mostly takeout. Anyway, it has amazing sushi. I also think it said Sushi Haven on the door but that's not the name of the place according to google maps, or maybe it is, I just can't find it. Can anyone help me out please? I need to find this place to take my girlfriend there.

Latest and tastiest takeout spots?

I'll go first - Montagu's Gusto.

Really good sandwiches (one is enough for two people).

Their sides are also generously portioned and very tasty (I like their breaded chicken).
