Hi everyone. I recently purchased NYRB’s edition of Swann’s Way - I can’t wait to dive in. However, I wonder whether there’s any plan for NYRB to publish the other 6 volumes in the In Search of Lost Time series? Has there been anything said about that (officially or not)?

For those who do own NYRB’s Swann’s Way, what other editions have you used to complete your collection and round out your reading experience? I tend to rabidly enjoying owning complete sets, but don’t seem to have much choice here.

I just read Wedgwood's "The Thirty Years War" and loved it! I'm wondering what history books y'all have read from NYRB and which are your favorites?

I usually read a hell lot from Nobel Prize winners and Classics. I feel drawn to contemporary literature too like my current favourite is Laszlo krasznahorkai. Beckett, Canetti, Jon Fosse, Coetzee, Steinbeck, Faulkner, Sebald, Bernhard are writers who occupy top positions in my priority list. European literature appeals more to me overall learning about how it survived wars, poverty and its paraphernalia. It would be of great help if someone can recommend me post 1900s or even post 2010 nyrb which can possibly cater to my taste.

Now on to sorting them.

I heartily recommend Asheville NC as one of the best book shopping cities in the state. Picked up the four NYRBs at Bagatelle Books, along with the LoA and the two Penguin Classics; the Angst was acquired at Firestorm just down the road, and the three remaining beefy books are from Malaprop's downtown.

I recently began Tove Jansson's The Summer Book and was delighted to discover it contains some of Jansson's own ink illustrations interspersed throughout. I didn't know this going in, but they certainly add to the charm of the book.

Obviously Jansson is a somewhat unique case, being a renowned illustrator herself. But it made me curious: are there any other novels in the NYRB catalogue that contain illustrations?

I participated in #NYRBSUMMER over on IG and ended up finishing 20 books between June, July, and August. Standouts for me were Ariane, a Russian Girl by Claude Anet and The Door by Magda Szabó.

Anyone have a favorite bookstore with an excellent nybr shelf/wall? I’m going to shout out a favorite of mine, Title Wave Books in Anchorage, Alaska. They punch way above their weight in NYBR selection.

NYRB is usually better than this. I haven’t even gotten 50 pages in.. 😭😭😭😭

Between the leftovers of the Summer Sale that I still haven’t gotten to, the Women in Translation Sale, and some random book club and used bookstore finds, the TBR stack has gotten tall.

I may need to put myself in timeout for the Winter Sale.

Hello all, I recently decided to try a year of this book club and I am wondering when to expect books? I joined on July 30 and I remember seeing something about first book being 4-6 weeks out and I would be just hitting the 4 week mark tomorrow. I only am checking here because when I log into the support center it says "Last Order: Jul 30, 2026 / 12 issues" then says "Issues Remaining: 10 issues" but I have not gotten any books yet. I tried messaging customer service but never got any response. So now I am checking here to see if anyone else has any experience here and if I should be worried or not / reach out again to customer service.

Sorry if this is a frequent question but the closest I have found is people discussing if they enjoyed the club or not.

Just a mini haul but I was excited for this sale!

Hey all! You may remember me from when I posted last month about acquiring a collection of 268 NYRBs. After finding my post, Timothy Kenny reached out to me, and we did an extensive home library tour & interview, where I talked about the NYRBs, my writing MFA experience, and a whole host of other literary & writerly topics! If you're interested, check it out!

Three stories stand out to me in Buzzati's short story collection, "The Bewitched Bourgeoisie":

1) The Falling Girl: it talks about the fall of a girl from the highest building in town and that the fall in itself represents the stages of life as every stage passes by in a flickering glittering manner... The part that most stands out to me is when a guy wants to love her, but she gets shocked and only taps his nose, and when she noticed more beautiful girls falling alongside her even faster...

2) The Colomber: it is a story of grasping what is yours in this life no matter what the authoritative figures in your life tell you otherwise. The part that destroyed me the most is when he died of grief after he knew that he lost his life calling/fortune in the pearl that that sea monster wanted to give to him...

3) Seven Floors: it is a Kafkaesque masterpiece and a one that best describes Nassim Nicholas Taleb's concept of Antifrafility. It talks about the inevitability of death and the best we could is a maintenance work until we fall prey to death's claws...

I saw in a YouTube video that Dino Buzzati's shoet stories in Italian are well over 1500 pages and the NYRB collection of his is only 350 pages...

It would be nice if one day NYRB gave us the entire ouvre of his short stories writings...

Glad to get some of the more expensive ones with such a good sale! Anyone read any of these before?
