Original Mod Help Which Mod Manager?

I'm having all sorts of trouble getting mods to work. I started off with Vortex, then someone told me that didn't work for Oblivion. Then I was looking at some old threads and they mentioned Oblivion Mod Manager. Then one of them said Mod Organizer 2 was the way to go. Then someone suggested Wyre Bash. I've tried them all and had problems with them all - mods all of a sudden not loading for no apparent reason.

I'm using the Steam version of Oblivion...what am I doing wrong? Which mod manager should I use? Or should I just manually install them all?

Idk who told you Vortex doesn’t work for oblivion, but it works fine for me. Unless something has changed in the last 3-4 months since I played

MO2 is best, Vortex is bad, wyre bash I’ve never used but I’m pretty sure most people use other managers these days

Walk me through your process with WryeBash. What exactly doesn't work for you? Also, is your Steam folder installed to a disk space separate from your Windows folder?

I was using Wyre Bash, but I found it wasn't accurately loading all of the mods. All of a sudden one or more would just stop working next time I started Oblivion.

A little bit of history: Wrye Bash came when oblivion came out and was built for that game so in some way is built for it and has things and can do things for oblivion that the others won't do.

Mo2 came out with a new windows feature that allows the creation of virtual folders. It allows all your mods to be stored in their own folder and then let oblivion run one one big virtual folder with all your mods. Turning on or off a mod is just a toggle now whereas with any other manaher a toggle means a install to your oblivion folder. With mo2 your oblivion folder never even gets touched.

Vortex is a nexusmods creation and really meant for any game not just oblivion. Same approach as any mod manager but beneficial is that you can change game in the manager.

So the best of both worlds is using MO2 and running Wrye Bash through it when needed (creating bashed patches, cleaning saves, ..., stuff that only it can do). Otherwise using MO2. Vortex for any other game that isn't oblivion Skyrim fallout starfield.
