"ok what if it was World War 2, and I was a plucky British soldier.. And then I made out with Michael B Jordan.. Directed by Christopher Nolan".

u/Robofetus-5000 5d ago

"Andrew...this is just the screenplay for Broke Back Mountain and you scratched out Jake and Heath's names and written yours and Michael B Jordan's...."

85

u/peppaz 5d ago

"...And you crossed out "Horse" and just wrote Pedro Pascal"

Without condoning, or condemning… I understand

17

u/MoistStub 5d ago

As a straight male, I get it. Michael B Jordan got the cum gutters.

2

u/peppaz 5d ago

I saw a report last week that he was voted hottest man alive, and a compilation of every top female actress coming at him uncontrollably like a snack... And I was like wait this doesn't sound right. So I looked up more pictures of him and said, I get it now. He is, and he could get it.

u/ShadyJane 5d ago

"Can I at least sniff him a little bit? Caressingly?"

7

u/boytoyahoy 5d ago

How'd you get ahold of my fan script?

3

u/fuzzhead12 4d ago

Biderman vs. The Lot Lizard: will the Bar-Crawler be able to resist the temptations of the fiendish Lot Lizard, or will they be lured into the cab of his 18 wheeler for good??

2

u/Hearing_Loss 4d ago

The Cream Gobblin is bona fide diabolical.

u/succed32 5d ago

He wanted to sling something other than webbing I see.

0

u/finnjakefionnacake 5d ago

33

u/sex 5d ago

It's okay Andrew, we all wanna smooch MBJ.

38

u/GoIntoTheHollow 5d ago edited 5d ago

Andrew Garfield is just out there crossing off men on his hallpass list. He already smooched Stephen Colbert and Ryan Reynolds.

39

u/gdubh 5d ago

The Amazing FABULOUS Spider-Man!

27

u/kytheon 5d ago

My dream MJ is MBJ

5

u/manikfox 5d ago

MJ as MBJ receiving or giving BJs

39

u/JuanJuanAbrams 5d ago

I'm not gay or bi but I understand Mr Garfield.

1

u/ghanima 5d ago

I'm bi and I'd watch this movie.

18

u/SBailey75 5d ago

I bet he did

12

u/hotfezz81 5d ago

Be serious: do you think that pitch doesn't make a shitload of money?

Think of all the free publicity opportunities for marvel to pretend they care about lgbts demonstrate how much of an ally they'd be

24

u/Owy2001 5d ago edited 5d ago

No, absolutely not. That would crash and burn so hard. Especially given how important the Chinese market has become (and they would probably refuse to even show it if it couldn't be censored out).

People would literally have rioted in the streets. You're wildly overestimating how open to change/progressivism the super hero community is. It would be awesome if something like this could happen, but Spider-Man is not the property they take risks with.

6

u/FaxCelestis 5d ago

Yeah. I literally saw a meme yesterday of three pictures of Spider-Man casts (Macguire, Garfield, and Holland) used as supporting evidence of the great replacement theory.

Which, I want to be insurmountably clear, is bullshit of the highest order, but also evidence that superhero dorks are not progressive.

3

u/iSadhak 5d ago

Also there is clause in Spider-man deal which does allow them to change peter parker sexuality, race or gender.

No alchohal, Or drug abuse either. This was the main reason In noir series that change his name.

3

u/Ammar-The-Star 5d ago

The Middle East loves Spider-Man as well, don’t think that would work out too well lol

1

u/finnjakefionnacake 5d ago

i don't know about riots. particularly, however, i do think they would need to use one of the queer spider-men from the comments instead of the one they've already brought to the MCU.

1

u/IDKWhyIamInYupi 1d ago

People on TikTok are promoting a mutant genocide unironically because the X-Men are apparently going to fight Raimiverse Spiderman in the next Avengers

1

u/SBailey75 5d ago

I was referring to MBJ, you notice he was requesting Steve Buscemi

14

u/Korumry 5d ago

Let him cook

3

u/Books_and_Cleverness 5d ago

My only gripe with this kinda thing is it seems like a lot of people are trying to do something more creative and original, but forced to connect it to existing IP.

It’s not their fault (the problem is the audience) but I’d love for this kinda thing to just be a totally different story.

6

u/finnjakefionnacake 5d ago edited 5d ago

yeah people say that but the problem is characters like spider-man already have huge name recognition. it'd be cool if, like, marvel ever wanted to give the theatrical spotlight to a gay/bi hero but we're 18 years into the MCU and like 40 films and clearly that hasn't been on the list for them, while they've spent time building up these other heroes. so i guess some actors are like, "well, if you ain't gonna do it, how about i propose this instead."

honestly there are variants of all these superheroes in the comics that are men, women, black, white, gay, straight, etc etc. so there'd probably even be a basis for it.

1

u/Books_and_Cleverness 5d ago

Yeah I don’t blame studios or artists, they are under tremendous marketing constraints.

7

u/nathism 5d ago

So Spiderman would swing both ways?

4

u/Ender1714 5d ago

If he wants to bang MBJ he can just ask

3

u/Gonna_do_this_again 5d ago

Deadpool is already on board why not just explore that

3

u/equality4everyonenow 5d ago

Andrew was the funniest spiderman

2

u/Ok_Aioli3897 5d ago

Here's the thing at the time he could probably have one or the other not both

2

u/PrincessPunkinPie 5d ago

Sold 👏

When do tickets go on sale?

5

u/mmahowald 5d ago

The dude just wanted to smooch Michael b Jordan. You know… like all us straight dudes.

5

u/mwdeuce 5d ago

When you've leaned into the zeitgeist a little too hard

2

u/lilbluehair 5d ago

No this is exactly the right amount of hard

6

u/50missioncap 5d ago

To quote Norm MacDonald, "You know what a good name for it would be? Box Office Poison."

2

u/cat_selling_souls 5d ago

Wait, wait, wait... wait. Does this confirm a Spideytorch romance? Michael B. Jordan also played Johnny Storm. Granted, he also played Kilmonger but that's neither here or there.

The Spideytorch could've existed if Andrew had his way!

1

u/FaxCelestis 5d ago

Spidermonger has potential

3

u/invisiblewar 5d ago

This generations broke back mountain

1

u/240psam 5d ago

Honestly I think Michael Balls Penis would be a better choice

1

u/BrittaUnfiltered67 5d ago

I imagine this as a tentpole film. Come on Marvel, make it happen.

1

u/Fuggins4U 5d ago

Face it Tiger; you just hit the g-spot.

1

u/sgtbb4 5d ago

The rare I’m not homophobic or racist subtle flex

1

u/Zarimus 5d ago

I have this great idea. We'll remake Rocky Horror Picture Show but make Dr. Frank n furter as a straight man who wears a suit.

Also all the cast will be Asian.

1

u/nkpst 5d ago

Green Goblin: Mary Jane?

MJ: Actually it’s Michael Jordan.

Green Goblin: Fascinating.

1

u/strolpol 4d ago

Maybe when Spiderman becomes public domain sometime in 40 years

1

u/LtG_Skittles454 2d ago

Awesome! That’d be cool to see adapted

1

u/anxious_tfem 2d ago

Give me this right now or I riot

1

u/JulPollitt 1d ago

Per Marvel’s rules it would have had to be exclusive to a Symbiote story line

1

u/Federal_Set_8387 13h ago

I don't like this movie . These role?

2

u/Saiing 5d ago

To be fair, I consider myself a pretty average straight male and even I can see the appeal. MBJ is one fine looking man!

2

u/CarlySimonSays 5d ago

I just remembered the story about a young teen girl who was so very overwhelmed by MBJ's appearance on the big screen, that she broke her retainer!

So great! It's like when Rudolph Valentino in the 1920s purportedly made some girls faint, haha.

1

u/BurningStandards 5d ago

Give it to hiiiiiimmmm.

1

u/Amazing-Flow7095 5d ago

MJ giving BJ

1

u/usernameman66 5d ago

No way lol

7

u/OhMyGug 5d ago

All the way home

0

u/JT9960 4d ago

I’d watch

0

u/ROADHOG_IS_MY_WAIFU 4d ago

Give this man some space and let him cook!

-38

u/Buy_Sell_Collect 5d ago

So… that would have bombed harder than not-so-“Supergirl”

20

u/Qsnaps74656 5d ago

You literally have no idea what the plot is, who the director is, what the framing of the film is... Your only information is "two a list stars share a queer romance" and you're crying and gnashing your teeth.

-11

u/Buy_Sell_Collect 5d ago

The only one here crying and gnashing their teeth is… you. And it’s comical because you’re crying about a hypothetical movie that will never be made.

Why won’t it be made? Refer to my original comment… it won’t be made because it would have been a financial disaster. Cry as you might, the majority of the population doesn’t want this, and certainly wouldn’t pay money to see it.

4

u/cunningstunt6899 5d ago

I didn't realize you speak for the majority of the population...

13

u/whichwitch9 5d ago

You underestimate how many women and how much of the lgbtq+ community would be flocking to see an Andrew Garfield/ Michael B Jordan romance

Heated Rivalry's success should be a clue there.

Straight men would just never stop complaining about it

10

u/slumvillain 5d ago

Straight men would just never stop complaining about it

Oh so what's new?

-7

u/Buy_Sell_Collect 5d ago

No, I don’t. The majority of women would not pay money to see MBJ in a gay role, and you overestimate the size of the lgbtq+ community… which would not come close to recouping the ~$400M production and marketing costs for a Spider-Man movie.

Add to that the # of fans that they would lose and it’s easy to see that this will never happen. Disney may have been dumb enough to do that on their own, but thankfully Sony Pictures owns the film rights 😁

4

u/cunningstunt6899 5d ago

Must be why Brokeback Mountain earned 200 million two decades ago

5

u/Buy_Sell_Collect 5d ago

I would try to explain gross versus net profit to you, but you wouldn’t understand. Good for you though, you found a 20+ year old movie to reference for your cause… congratulations?

2

u/cunningstunt6899 5d ago

I would try to explain how inflation works and how 200 million 20 years ago is worth a lot more today.

I would also try to explain how prestige films typically make less money than blockbusters.

2

u/Buy_Sell_Collect 5d ago

Again, you fail to grasp the importance of gross versus net profit. Inflation doesn’t hide the fact that after marketing costs, Brokeback barely made a profit, if any at all. It was an early push for “the message”, and was/is heavily acclaimed by critics… awards, top this and that lists, and so on. But to even entertain the idea that they can force “the message” using a main character from the MCU, and be profitable while not losing a massive % of the MCU fanbase, is laughable.

2

u/pingo5 5d ago

what are you talking about barely made a profit? Brokeback's budget was like 14 million. it was mostly profit

0

u/Buy_Sell_Collect 5d ago

Yet another that doesn’t understand marketing costs, and gross versus net profits… thanks for the laugh!

2

u/pingo5 5d ago

can you do me a favor and find me a source that says what you're saying instead of arguing with me? the best i can find is they spent 5 mil on marketing. not exactly killing the profits there.

3

u/cunningstunt6899 5d ago

What exactly is "the message" that you seemed to be so vehemently opposed to? That there is nothing wrong with being gay?

I remember when Marvel made this "woke" movie called Black Panther. That was such a disaster at the box office, right?

1

u/Buy_Sell_Collect 5d ago

There is nothing wrong with being gay, but Black Panther wasn’t gay… womp womp.

2

u/cunningstunt6899 5d ago

Why are you getting your panties in a twist then sweetie?

I'm guessing you frequently post in The Critical Drinker subreddit?

2

u/The_Unknown_Mage 5d ago

Dudes post and comment history is a mess man.

-1

u/Either-Lock2454 4d ago

I can see Andrew Garfield trying to do this thinking he's elevating the character and I can see people going, "Oh wow this is so enlightening. How wonderful of him."

As someone who isn't white, I see this as a white actor trying to put a successful POC in a "limited position". Think of that whole "wear the dress" thing. When Star Trek Beyond came out they made a fuss about having an LGBTQ character and then dumped it on the Asian character by saying the real life actor who played him was gay...as if that was a thing.
