Trying to create more in less time. Trying to think a little less.

So, i’m more of a nocturnal person on top of hating big and white lights, some advice on how the old masters painted in candlelight and still managed to ace color mixing and theory?

Painted on recycled paper with visible grain, suitable for some nice mark making brushwork.
I find myself very intrigued by pink-orange-brown, with the shadows being mixed from a cherry red and ultramarine. Very dreamy I think :)

I'm an art student, and this is my first ever experience with oil paint. My art teacher asked the entire class to do a copy of a picture of Lucian Freud, so I had decided to pick his " naked girl with eggs" piece of art. Nonetheless, when I started, everything was fine, I didn't have so many problems except for a wrong choice of the color palette (the print's colors were completely different from the ones in the catalogue where I found the opera). Anyway, now I hate so much this painting, because it's so plain and flat . I don't know how many times I tried to make it look better 😭. The first photo, which is a detail view, that I added is the "final" look, meanwhile the second was one of the previous phases. So please, if someone wants to give me any tips or say something about oil painting, go ahead I'm all ears. (I'm begging you)

Oil study of a man

(Still a WIP) I’m new to oil - usually watercolour occasionally acrylic in my studies. I’m playing around with bold colours to prime but struggling to make the main subject stand out enough with it currently due to limited palette. Do I start added another colour to figure to play with tone or continue to work on pushing the background back? Thanks!

Oils and some cold wax on mdf board; approx 12x9 inches. This was painted mainly with a small palette knife. Small amounts of cold wax (Gamblin's) were added to the paint mixtures and I found applying the colour for the flowers to be rather addictive. It was painted about seven years ago and I have a question. The surface of the painting appears to still be vulnerable; I have already accidentally scratched it lightly during a recent room-renovation/moving stuff around; and it is possible to mark it with a finger-nail. The painted-surface is dry, but of course not varnished because of the wax. Anyone else using cold wax with oilpaint? should the work really be under glass, or is it more the "thing" to simply frame it without glass just like any other oil?

This one was kind of fun to do, I do love a dark theme. Was supposed to be a creepy child, but ended up looking more like a old creepy dude. I think i should have made the tie and ears bigger, and rounded out the jaw.

I'm a beginner in oil paint, but recently I found out that it's ten times more pleasant for me when I paint on paper, instead of canvas. The flowy robes were HARD, I didn't even know where to start, but i ended up semi-satisfied with them. Any advice welcome!!

I saw this parked scooter while walking around downtown Calgary last month and I knew I had to paint it. I loved the vivid blue color and especially the Royal Air Force-esque target symbol on this Vespa's top case.
