Ever notice how dark the Sadecki household is? I don't mean dark in an abstract sense, I mean there is very little light at night. It's easy to chalk this up to mise en scene or naturalism (or even trend-following), but I think there's a diegetic explanation:

Sadecki is a Polish name.

Jeff's family likely came over fairly recently, or they would've changed it to Sadetsky at Ellis Island. But that means there are exactly two (2) people with Polish ancestry in the Sadecki household: Jeff and Callie. And everybody knows it takes three Poles to screw in a lightbulb: one to hold it, and two to rotate the ladder. With only two Poles in the house, they must have trouble changing bulbs in the ceiling; hence the ambient mood lighting.
