No, different times & number of times that it happens means that it's not the same.
Look, sometimes it works as with Samuel L Jackson (Nick Fury), even if they did ruin his character with Secret Invasion, but there are so many race swaps now that it's not even funny (seen the gingercide meme as an example)
I think this stems from just how many disproportionate red heads there are in comic books lol. Every second person is ginger because red is an interesting color for hair for stories
Exactly, color choices in comics, especially early ones, were rarely about representation or reality. Hulk is green because they couldn't pull off grey with the printing tech they had at the time. Like you said, red hair makes for distinct looking characters when nothing else about them is particularly distinct (and also, their printing tech back then made subtle differences in color basically impossible).
Because people are tired of all the race swapping that's been going on (not just in Marvel), there are plenty of black characters out there & the potential to create new ones, but those in charge either don't want to make the effort or risk it so they resort to swapping.
But again, this would be a race swap, which would automatically annoy a fair few fans.
It doesn't matter that it's not much of a stretch, people are tired of the race swapping; maybe if they swap Nick Fury back to being white & a few others as well, but if not...
Why do you need Nick Fury to be race swapped back, in order to be more accepting of a non-caucasian Magneto. It's not a "how many people in this, look like me" competition. As long as the characters race serves the story, rather than the other way around; I couldn't care less what race they are. Seems to me, like you're one of these "fair few fans" but you don't wanna say it with your chest.
We don't have the luxury of getting Bishop, Prodigy, Spike, Synch etc in live action because they're not as much of a box-office draw as Storm and The 5. So I for one, would appreciate a race swap that puts more people who look like me on screen, as long as it serves the story.
I don't need it, I merely suggested it to prove a point about how it would go over; as to it serving the story, Nick Fury's swap didn't, it was done because Samuel L Jackson is popular (which is why it worked).
As to not want to say I'm one of the fans, I am, but that's not the relevant part & getting into it usually just results in insults & pointless derailment into "motivations".
Also, did swapping Johnny Storm in Fan4stic (2015) serve the story? The issue is that so often it doesn't serve the story at all, it's only there for representation & diversity and to hell with everything else.
I get what you're saying, but it will race swapping characters does cause (online) controversy & can negatively impact reception.
Again, if it's not a big deal then there shouldn't be a problem doing in the other direction such as Fury* (I mean who could equal SLJ?!) and a few others.
* he was white in the comics before they modelled him on Jackson & was in fairness there wasn't much of a reaction to it because he's a great actor. Problem is, it doesn't always work out that way.
They did nothing to dwell on Fury's race swapping. The problems come when instead of just makings changes they make it the focus of the whole movie/show or do those big dramatic heart strings pulling look at my problems scenes throughout.
Samuel L Jackson is/was big enough to get by the hate but I think it's much more became they didn't focus on it for even a second. For Magneto they would have to address it because it is central to his character but it shouldn't be to earn points for diversity or anything or at least kept to a bare minimum .
I remember as a kid movies and shows were more diverse and took on bigger topics more often but they didn't thrown it in our faces so much. They'd have a LGBTQ character and just not mention it or dedicate an episode or 2 a season to focus on black people problems. They never tried to earn points and it was more like they were sneeking it in.
Watching 5 nieces and nephews so my thoughts got jumbled and repeated. There is definitely more that what I've said
