I immediately thought of the Punisher. I remember around the time of the Thomas Jane film they made his war background the Gulf War. I guess it's about his family though. They could make Frank an Esports veteran so long as Maria and the kid's deaths fuel his rage.
Erik is different though. Holocaust survival, Nazi persecution of Jews, restarting in USA, human persecution of Mutants. It seems hard to find "the next closest thing" to the holocaust without it being insensitive.
The biggest problem with Erik, and to a lesser extent Charles. Is that no matter what happens to one needs to happen to the other pretty much, since they had known each other since they were young.
