A creative decision you can't wait people to be completely chill and normal about?

Its not that they are moving it, its that the suggestion has been to move it to modern day American ICE problems.

You could easily move Eriks story to Bosnia in the early 90s, and accomplish much of the same that his holocaust origin does. You also keep him jewish and connected to the holocaust because of family. He would have been raised on stories of how bad it was, and this would be an example of it happening again which would feed his hate for humans in a natural and understandable way.

Honestly, ICE and MAGA have been going full Nazi, minus a few dozen IQ points.

Oh my god. Okay, as someone with a degree in History I'm genuinely sick right now.

You are historically illiterate. Your reckless comparison does the exact thing people claim to hate: it cheapens the Holocaust until the word “Nazi” just means “people I dislike this week.”

Nazis did not “go full Nazi minus a few dozen IQ points.” They built a one-party racial state that passed the Nuremberg Laws, ghettoized entire populations, ran mobile killing squads, then constructed an industrial system whose explicit purpose was the physical elimination of Jews as a people. Six million Jews. Plus millions of others. Gas chambers, crematoria, Wannsee, the works. It is a documented program of annihilation carried out by a government that had abolished elections, independent courts, and a free press.

ICE is a federal law-enforcement agency created in 2003 to enforce statutes Congress already passed. It detains and deports people who entered or remained in the country illegally. You can argue the statutes are too harsh, the facilities are poorly run, due process is insufficient, or family separations were cruel. Those are policy fights. They are not the Final Solution. Treating deportation of illegal entrants as equivalent to Auschwitz is not moral seriousness; it is category error. States have always controlled borders. The Third Reich’s project was the destruction of a people inside the territory it already controlled.

MAGA is a political coalition and a slogan. It has won elections, lost elections, and will do both again. It has not passed racial citizenship laws, built death camps, or launched a war of extermination. Calling it “full Nazi” is the same rhetorical inflation that once got applied to Bush, then Obama, then Trump, then whoever is next. Historians like myself who actually work on 1933–45 get sick of watching the unique features of that regime get flattened into a generic insult.

The Bosnia suggestion is simply better history. The Bosnian War produced ethnic cleansing, rape camps, and the Srebrenica massacre, over 8,000 Bosniak men and boys murdered in a few days after the UN “safe area” collapsed. That is a late 20th century European case of identity based mass killing that a Jewish family raised on Holocaust stories could reasonably experience as “it is happening again.” It keeps Erik Jewish, keeps the intergenerational trauma, and does not require pretending that American immigration enforcement is Treblinka.

If the goal is a younger Magneto who still has a historically grounded reason to conclude that humans will eventually try to wipe out the “other,” Bosnia in the early ’90s is a far more coherent transplant than grafting him onto current U.S. interior enforcement. The Holocaust origin works because the crime was civilizational in scale and intent. Swap it for something that does not match that scale and you don’t modernize the character. You make his extremism look unhinged instead of tragically overdetermined.

Use analogies that survive contact with reality or don’t use them.

Funnily enough, iirc Magneto wasn’t explicitly confirmed Jewish until the 2000s. Claremont did make him a Holocaust survivor in the 80s.
