Few questions as a newbie.

Hello,

I have a question about whether I am using OpenCode completely free of charge.

I installed OpenCode and have only used models that have the “Free” badge next to them. When I check the context page, it shows the following:

Provider: OpenCode Zen
Usage: 6
Total Cost: $0.00

Based on this, am I correct in assuming that I am using the free tier and not being charged?

My second question is about usage limits. This morning, I used about 95% of my quota for the Muse Spark 1.2 Free model. When I checked again in the evening, it had reset to around 3% usage. Does this quota automatically replenish on a regular basis? If so, will it continue to do so indefinitely, or is there any chance I could be charged in the background?

Yes that is how it works. When you use up your quota it stops answering queries and you should see an error message.

There are several GitHub projects that setup a single endpoint and proxy to many of the free quota sites. When one runs out it can automatically move to the next.

Thanks! I'm using it to describe images, and it seems to be quite generous with the usage. Is that normal? I feel like I should eat up much more tokens.

Are you sure you did spend the quota? Maybe you are mixing it with the context. And an automatic "/compact" action reduced it. The context is very important. And should never go close to the limit because the quality degrades heavily.

Regarding being charged. Nobody will charge you on any place if you do not give a credit card. There is no contract to pay something later. No card, no charges. Some places ask for a card and do not charge (if you stay on the limits). But in general, avoid them. OpenCode and OpenRouter are your frieds. Nvidia or GMI cloud are also good places. But as someone commented, use OmniRoute if you want free resources centralized. Check youtube for videos.

For describing images any free model should be enough. On a chat or with API. Unless you speak about thousands of images per day.

Well, to be honest I don't even know the difference. All I know is when I hovered the circular icon it showed around 90% usage and went back to single digits.
Also, is this usage shared or not? What I mean is, when I use a model up to 50% and then switch to another, do I get 0 usage?

As to being charged, I don't remember entering anything related to a credit card. In the Settings page, there are nothing related to credit cards, and provider section shows "no connected providers". I also don't remember signing up for the program as well.

I made it describe like 40 images so I guess it's enough.

This is the context. When it is full it does a summary. It calls the /compact "command". Many people trigger it manually by 50% or less because the quality degraded a lot with full context and tends to repeat mistakes again and again.

Your daily quota is many many times a full context. Think about the context like the history of the chat.
