Except escape from Tarkov. That game was designed to destroy lives.

Shit is so addictive it ruined a marriage

Tarkov is best after a divorce or life crushing experience

It's very Russian. No joy without suffering.Ā

I agree with them. The best games, for me, are the ones that give you a rush. Can't get that without struggling first.Ā

16

u/LPMadness PC Master Race May 02 '26

I’ve never had a game give me such a rush like Tarkov. Nothing has ever come close. The fastest 2k hours I’ve ever dumped into a game.

3

u/mosesenjoyer RTX 5090, 64 GB DDR5, Ultra i9 May 03 '26

What was so alluring about it?

9

u/LPMadness PC Master Race May 03 '26

The stakes. You get more attached to your gear and loot because it is your lifeline. The steep learning curve. It wears off after dumping time in the game but I had gunfights that had my adrenaline pumping. Hands shaking and heart racing. No game has ever done that to me.

Yup. This is one of the main reasons I love DayZ (or games similar) where you don’t saving ANY progress when you die. Makes you actually think through all your actions and have actual fear/anxiety when you’re close to dying; because you lose EVERYTHING and have to start fresh. You simply can’t match that level of intensity without having something to lose.

BSG excuse for doing shitty job at game design n.1758

Perfect example of "doing perfect job at mechanics but terrible at everything else". I wish more games adopted the weapon modding, granularity in lean and crouch and so on. Tarkov should have gone the way of Arma, open for community to mod with official servers for the "developer vision" experience.

There's the actual phone numbers for company's on the attachments in game like the knight arms barrel guard for the M4 , their eye for detail and copyright infringement knows no bounds

Wish they were this dedicated to netcode in multiplayer game

2

u/Plenty-Industries May 02 '26

Or they just didnt want to bother spending the time to removing such stuff after taking photos to create the texture file.

I see it more as unintentional detail.

No, games are meant to be enjoyable. If playing on the hardest difficulty or doing a super stressful challenge run is enjoyable to you, then do that. If playing on easy and relaxing is what you want, then do that. Play however you want to play and don’t let others tell you what games are ā€œmeant to beā€

People like to ponder to their own ideas and see others in agreement. Hence the post. And I do very much agree with you, my kind of relaxation is when I get my arse whooped continuously until I gitgud. The process of learning and overcoming will never become tiring for me.

29

u/SwagLimit May 02 '26

Imagine playing Mario Party and feeling relaxed

2

u/monsterfurby May 02 '26

I mean, it's still a game that distracts you from real-life stress, which is a form of relaxation.

4

u/KiNgPiN8T3 May 02 '26

I’m glad I didn’t have to scroll too far for this. My job provides the stress so I’d prefer my gaming to not.. lol! But some people like to put their balls in a vice and if that’s what they enjoy, then who am I to tell them different!? Lol

3

u/lemme_try_again May 02 '26

The first video games were stressful as fuck. Arcades? Stressful. Mario? Stressful. Sonic? Metroid? Zelda?

People forget sometimes that not everyone is a coward that plays Myst. Wait.... point and click games were stressful too?!

(I'm sorry. My satire/sarcasm is bad)

6

u/seraph321 13700KF | 32GB DDR4 | RTX 5080 | LG G5 | Quest 3 May 02 '26

Exactly, I play because I want a challenge. I want to feel that amazing feeling of overcoming something that felt nearly impossible an hour ago because I learned the systems, strategized, and practiced long enough to push the necessary reflexive responses into muscle memory. I don’t want it to be a cake walk, nor do I want to win just because I spent the time mindlessly grinding, I want to earn it. Of course I ALSO don’t want to hit a brick wall of impossibility. Therein lies the difference between an ok game and a brilliant one; when I’m fully convinced I only progressed through sheer skill.

4

u/TheRealLarkas May 02 '26

I agree with this, though I’m puzzled with the ā€œnoā€ at the start. Ain’t it the same thing?

5

u/SeaLionBones May 03 '26

No, there are many games that are not relaxing but they are enjoyable.

2

u/Existing_Radish_3440 May 02 '26

I like the feel of mastering a game. So often times I use the recommended difficulty and work my way up on subsequent playthroughs.

2

u/leberwrust May 02 '26

Both can be good. I loved super meat boy, it just feels so good to finally achieve something after struggeling on the same level for days. But at the same time I do enjoy chill games without any difficulty.

2

u/MrDeeJayy Ryzen 7 5700X | RTX 5080 16GB | DDR4-3200 32GB May 02 '26

If you ask EA, games are meant to be a vehicle to drive profits up and give players a sense of pride and accomplishment for having a credit card (or debit card) with an available balance on it (for now)

2

u/Alternative_Tank_139 May 02 '26

That's completely unacceptable on Reddit, you have to play on the hardest difficulty to be a True Gamerā„¢ and not be a filthy casual.

2

u/Monster_King_227 May 03 '26

agreed very much!!

2

u/Eeve2espeon May 03 '26

Well yeah true, but some people genuinely believe you aren't a true gamer if you play on Easy. That's what this post is hinting towards

2

u/Therier May 05 '26

This so much! I love challenging in games. Lately I have been Kill Knight and that game is so enjoyable!

2

u/EranikusTheDeranged May 02 '26

Absolutely. Some games are clearly meant to be fun and relaxing because there's no difficulty slider, they aren't hard and are accessible to a wide audience. Other games are clearly meant for hardcore or competitive players and if you don't play them that way you probably won't get the same enjoyment from them as people that do. If a game has an easy mode and a hard mode, sure you can play on easy, just don't be upset when competitive players don't take you seriously.Ā

u/green9206 Laptop May 02 '26

This is a copium sentiment from people who go out of their way to avoid any modicum of difficulty because they don't have the time to play and get good anymore. Games are supposed to be enjoyable. If that's relaxing games for you, that's fine. But I find easy games boring as fuck. Everyone plays for different reasons and framing this as a general statement reeks of copium.

Relaxing? Sometimes. But if a game can't make me feel like this at least once per session then I want no part of it.

3

u/L0rdChicken May 02 '26

You've never played Dark Souls I take it. I like stressful games. I like being challenged.

Not saying this post is wrong. But we should encourage each other to challenge ourselves whenever possible. Criticism and self reflection are lacking these days. Striving for more is never a problem. It's ok to play on Easy. But it's more fulfilling to find a way to do it on Normal. Or Hard.

My sentiment is "Play the game the way you want. But always consider the dopamine reaction from overcoming a challenge."

3

u/Jirekianu May 02 '26

I hate this fucking quote. Games are meant to be enjoyable, sometimes that means stressful and challenging. Sometimes that means fun and relaxing. It depends on what the person wants.

But hey, this is like the third time I've seen this quote on a screencap so it's just someone farming karma again.

3

u/WomenAreNotReal May 02 '26

I don't understand wanting there to be no challenge. Part of the fun of games is learning and mastering the mechanics, without that you're basically just there for the cutscenes. Why not just watch a show at that point?

I mean sure, but if you set your game to be so easy it doesn't engage at least one of your braincells I wouldnt call that gaming

2

u/Sayishere May 02 '26

If the game is too easy you won’t experiment with the game and try out new items/skills etc or use the systems etc. There needs to be some challenge.

2

u/Illustrious-Lime-863 May 02 '26

Games are best when you are in a flow state: not too hard (irritating) and not too easy (boring). That depends on the player and the game of course

2

u/Secret-Back-344 May 02 '26

Sure but for me easy mode defeats the purpose of the game. At that point I may as well just watch a film or watch someone else stream the game or videos. Easy mode feels incredibly boring. Good for people who don't game at all or children imo. I prefer normal difficulty or potentially hard but typically never the hardest.

2

u/Mesphelia May 02 '26

ngl games are not meant anything special in particular. everyone is a individual, some wanna get challenged and die alot and feel that they accomplish something and some just wanna see the story. everyone is DIFFERENT.

2

u/Peeka789 May 02 '26

This is fine but please also accept that some games are designed to BE difficult to invoke a certain feeling in the player. Cramming in an easy mode in a game like Dark Souls devalues the experience.Ā

I like a game that demands a little respect.

When it checks you every now and then where you start to play too carelessly.

For example, you may get annoyed for dying or struggling with a mission. The feeling of coming back later and completing it is satisfying.

Why are difficult games stressful?? It's not a fun challenge to y'all?

2

u/LolLmaoEven May 02 '26

Sure, but it's also not okay to cry and demand game be changed when it's clearly not for you.

This is exactly me these days. I'm 41 now. My limited gaming cannot be one of frustration and stalling without advancing.

u/Fantastic_Account_89 May 02 '26

Some people like the challenge so play however you want

How about... Playing a single player game with cheats?

u/FatCrusher9000 May 02 '26

Hardcore cope of a total loser who doesn't actually think that, or he wouldn't have to cope like that.

I think people should ignore what they want to do and make things more difficult than they need to be, regardless if you're enjoying it or not sorry.

Nah you best believe I'll play resident evil games on the higher difficulties. I have more cortisol spikes from playing online competitive games.

1

u/Maf1903 May 02 '26

Also the other way around. It doesnt make you a tryhard edge lord that has no life when you do everything on hard mode. Some people find enjoyment in overcoming hard parts.

The fun thing about games is that we tailor the experience to our liking. Some days I want a bit of a challenge other days I’m just tired and want to shut my brain off.

It’s okay to play games however you like.

Except cheating in multiplayer games. People who do that should hit their toes on the corner of furniture for the rest of their lives.

1

u/Qweeq13 May 02 '26

It is also okay not to play games if they are too hard for you or not to your liking. Not everyone has to play, every game.

Souls-like games are not for everyone and there is a reason why you don't see RTS games being featured in mainstream games media.

There are games out there that realistically speaking only exist for YouTube let's plays. Especially stuff like Slanderman or Five Nights at Freddie's.

Games that are extremely janky, player unfriendly and obtuse. Even for horror game fans these wouldn't have succeeded without YouTube personalities screaming at their cameras.

1

u/Teck_3 May 02 '26

What about rage games? Aren't those specifically designed to make you angry?

1

u/SnooRevelations4661 May 02 '26

I always play on max difficulty because it makes my brain more committed to the game and I can forget about my stress in my life. When a game is easy, my mind tends to wonder off and return to things that are stressing me

I have no idea why we are having this discussion. It is ok to play games on whichever difficulty makes you happy.Ā  Nobody will knock on your door and ask you what you play and how. It is absolutely nobody's business.

I cant remember when was the last time I played anything else than the easiest mode avaible...

My frustration threshold is really low, and as the image said. I play to relax, not to stress

1

u/jimschocolateorange PC Master Race May 02 '26

There’s nothing wrong with playing on easy mode; however, this rhetoric surrounding ā€˜games are supposed to be relaxing’ is absolute nonsense. Fun, yes; relaxing, not always. My favourite games are Stealth games and Souls games… neither of those are inherently relaxing yet they’re are exceptionally fun.

Subjectivity is NOT objectivity… I’m not sure whether it’s the push in fascism in the states, but good god. Stop acting like your opinions are dogma. Fun is a spectrum.

u/Maeglin75 May 02 '26

I even use(d) cheat codes or tools now and then in single player games. Especially in story driven games.

And I'm certainly not alone with that. Back in the day, gaming magazines hat entire segments just about cheats or how to solve puzzles/challenges you can't figure out yourself. And the developers built in cheat codes for the players to use if they want.

Some enjoy difficult challenges. Some just want to relax and enjoy the story.

Unless you're content creator, then max difficulty for the fun to viewers.

1

u/Broken-TTK May 02 '26

That's fine

But demanding a game built to be challenging have an easy mode is simply dumb.

u/TouristWilling4671 R5 5600x | 9070 | 32 GB DDR4 May 02 '26

games aren't "meant" to be anything. they're art. sometimes you're meant to feel stressed, overwhelmed, underpowered, etc, not everything should be a frictionless experience.

1

u/NKNV May 02 '26

It depends on the game If I am playing FIFA I want to be challenged. Not score 10-12 goals every match
