SBC handhelds have been doing pretty well (single board computer). Retroid, anbernic, ayaneo, and a few other companies are making them. Typically android based for higher end ones, but we're seeing both decent PC support with Gamehub or Winlator.

I saw someone running Resident Evil 7, FF7 Remake, and GTA V on a Retroid Pocket 6. Those are running about $250+ shipping. Sure, it's not cutting edge but neither is a steam deck. I think the biggest downside is that compatibility is going to be even less than a steam deck. These things playing PC games is in its infancy (though it will get better)

I got a konkr pocket fit because I wanted something that was smaller and lighter than the steam deck, but was still fairly powerful. I've loved it, and used it more than my steam deck. Granted, I've been using that mostly for my PS1 and PS2 collection.

That's not to say phone+controller isn't good (It's how I play, actually), but the dedicated devices do have 3 benefits compared to that set up, being the screen's aspect ratio (Either 16:9 or 4:3 depending on the device, which means much less wasted space), the presence of a Micro SD Card slot (Which, let's be honest, your phone doesn't have at this point), and the active cooling (compared to a phone's passive) lets the chipset punch above what a phone with the same could do.

When I had to move countries I just took out everything that could move and bend, like the GPU, CPU cooler, etc, took off the glass panels, and moved everything separately. Worked like a charm.

Taking GPU through security was fun, they pulled me aside, but really they were like "That's a self contained water cooling unit? Neat idea" and let me through. After all it's got less than 100 ml of coolant inside so it's ok :D

I've had my PC in my car 50+ times and never had any issues. Just lie it down so the mobo side is down, make sure the case can't move and don't drive like an idiot. And if you're worried about the GPU and want to be extra careful, taking it off takes just a few minutes.

The reason you remove the GPU is because it's so big that during transport the microbumps from riding in the car can bend the card at the socket. At minimum it's going to cause wear.

If you have an air cooler it has the same issue. It's a big piece of metal screwed into a super thin PCB. It's a lot of weight shaking on a delicate piece of the board.

AIO coolers are screwed to the case and the "cooling" part that attaches to the actual CPU is so small that you probably don't need to realistically remove it. Because they're AIO they also aren't going to leak assuming they're not damaged prior.

A custom water cooler is also not going to run the risk of damaging the board via microbumps but it's definitely going to need to be removed and drained because it runs a much higher risk of leaking during transport than an AIO.

When I was 14 or 15, I was going on vacation to my grandma’s house, about 800 km away. I was dumb enough to put my entire PC inside a cardboard shipping box without any padding or protection whatsoever and just shipped it to her house.
It arrived in perfect condition.
