I can't even get a job these days and need to ration food while this fucking billionaire cuntface buys another leather jacket and then buys another company for 14b.
They will squeeze little bit of of you until you're like nothing but a rotting corpse and when you die they'll squeeze more from your likeness, image and soul as fertilizer for the exact same system that crush people spirit and break their dream. Wake the fuck up!
I think it's bad to even call DLSS. The tech now no longer relies on super sampling based on the input image to sharpen - it is now an AI interpretation of the image, what the lighting should look like, what a face should look like, what textures should look like... As is, it completely kills the intention of the artist.
Indeed. There’s a massive difference between using AI to allow performance improvements while still maintaining the intent of the artist, and just riding roughshod over it. If subsequent performance remove the artist’s intent, I’d rather play at lower resolution / frame rate and see what the artist intended me to see.
it cuts performance in almost exactly half for basically every card tested so far with the dlss5 mod which is ...sorta sus and might hint at the mod being held back in some way
tho im fully convinced that DLSS5 (slop aside) for the 50s will be what RTX was for the 20s
neat gimmick but runs so ass its not really worth using until later gens
That's why these assholes do it, they take the name of something people like and make something much worse under that same product line in the hopes that less discerning people or those that just don't know what it does will go "Hey, I like DLSS, I gotta use the new version".
Honestly I don't think I've ever had such a reaction of genuine disgust at a new gaming technology, even when I first saw lootboxes or micro transactions didn't reach this, it's utterly horrific.
And people with no knowledge at all eat it up, I've seen TONS in Latam forums/pages, saying that GTA VI with DLSS will surpass everything, or that Spiderman 2 with it it's the way to go, and it looks horrendous 😭
It literally defeats the point of why i find Rockstar's work so impressive as well, it's the push to make such expansive detailed worlds that feel distinctly human made, RDR2 especially which lacks a lot of the procedually generated feel a lot of open world games have especially Bethesda's, when you stumble upon a new event or building with it's own little backstory it feels meaningful in a way most games don't, doing that all A.I defeats the point for me.
(Note since I'm sure that people will bring up the very human cost with crunch for R*'s games and while that is true there's little evidence that crunch actually does anything, in fact it often makes the work worse than better, so that's really just corporate greed than actually being neccesary for that quality of work)
not at the beginning. a lot of people shat on dlss for about a year when it started using fake frames
That's not even close to the beginning, frame gen wasn't until the 40 series. At the actual beginning back in 2018 with the 20 series, people also shat on it because it genuinely was ass at first. It was basically a compromise to deal with the insane performance hit that the new ray tracing feature introduced. The 20 series, ray tracing, and dlss were hated when they first came out.
We were just coming off the whole crypto boom thing with sky high GPU prices and what we got compared to the 1000 series was higher prices at similar raster performance, goofy looking reflections for half the fps, and shitty upscaling from a lower resolution to try and mitigate that fps drop. Over time Nvidia has proved themselves on the longevity and forward thinking of the 20 series hardware along with the huge improvements to ray tracing and dlss.
So I could make a stick man FPS with super simple textures and backgrounds and dlss could just make up it's own interpretation of what it should look like?
This. DLSS = deep learning super sampling. It is the work of using algorithmic machine learning to dynamically upscale from sub-pixel information collected over a timed set of instances while predicting through game engine vector physics and assets to limit the majority of ghosting artefacts that would normally result from just brute forcing the upscaling itself.
This is just an AI slop filter that changes the appearance instead of adhering to sub pixel data over time it just makes shit up. Has nothing to do with DLSS, just like MFG isn't DLSS, it's just bundled together with DLSS because DLSS has become a recognizable brand -just like how Microsoft puts all kinds of shit under the collective package of "Windows OS" even if those bloatware have nothing to do with the actual OS itself they get packaged under its name.
Instead of improving existing textures, lighting, shadows, reflections, etc it adds completely new ones and goes as far as changing the shape of a face or object along with everything else making it something completely different that was not in the mind of designers and devs of the game and therefore looks completely out of place.
I agree. DLSS was a set of fantastic features without relying on AI. Now that AI is in the mix, this latest iteration should be called something like Proximity Interpolation Super Sampling, since that's all the AI does to form the image.
Let's be real, the NBA2K video looked amazing. Yeah the animation is rough, but it's a great application of this technology. One that doesn't erase a deliberate art style.

NBA2k27 is where we got the files for DLSS5 meaning it's the only game that has actual implementation by the developers. Every other game is running a mod that manually injects it into the game. I think once the official release comes out and developers start using it with intention we're gonna see the true potential of this tech.
Finally a couple of people who actually understand what is going on and not just freaking out about AI slop bullshit.
This tech is absolutely game changing. Even the "bad" photos like this one for Johnny still look incredibly more realistic and life like than without, even if it doesnt look like what we think it should look like. Once devs get their hands on it and can fine tune it to the game, and as Nvidia works more on the tech, it will look fantastic and the cryhaters will have to find a new boogeyman.
I'm amazed by the sound design in the sportsball games. Having a dynamic and responsive commentary that sounds very much like the running commentary on TV is pretty amazing to me. Now I admit I don't play these games so perhaps it gets super repetitive but seeing them played in passing it's pretty impressive.
This is always what frustrates me about people, they can't see even just a few cycles ahead. They see a small seed and go "this fucking thing is useless, it can't even give me food or shade or wood".
Give it a minute. Goddamn. DLSS 1 kinda sucked. Frame gen kinda sucked. Now they don't. Funny how that works, huh? Do these people walk around constantly FLABBERGASTED that tech actually IMPROVES over time?
The problem is people are cranking it up, posting to a sub and shitting on it. You can mess with sliders so it doesn’t look bad and some games need more adjustment than others to not lose their identity
No, they are just gaslighting you into thinking this is actually what DLSS5 will look like when the developers actually are given the chance to tweak and implement the feature to compliment their creative vision and the art direction of their games.
It's a screenshot from this particular video.
The guy claims to have 300 mods installed and it doesn't look good to me mainly because of that.
Here's a comparison screenshot From my own vanilla game. You won't gaslight me into thinking that DLLS 5 doesn't look better in some ways. And it's not only faces. Not evidenced in this screenshot, but the general lighting looks more natural and logical too.
And the before part isn't on low, either. It's what faces in maxed out Cyberpunk in 4k with path tracing look like.
There are issues, of course. The most obvious one - Before -180 fps (with 2x framegen), after - 105 fps. Very playable on a 5090, but how the hell people with normal GPUs are supposed to use it - no clue.
It's a half baked DLL wrenched out of a basketball game (and probably trained on basketball players) and jury-rigged to other games by a guy on discord in an afternoon, though.
You'd better download it before watching. It's 1.9 gb, because it's 4k 60 fps, and the Google drive's video compression is not great. The good part with a character in motion is after 2:20. Before that there is a part where I toggle it on and off and look at talking faces of Judy and friends.
Yep, as someone who has tried this in Cyberpunk, it looks pretty cool. It's not perfect but it's also a fucking unfinished DLL file intended for a basketball game. People keep cherry picking bad results because they know it'll fire people up on here and get them some karma.
Its fine if you don't like it but I got to wonder how many people on here parroting that they hate it and it has not redeeming qualities have even given it a try.
This site and honestly just the internet in general it seems are so fucking negative about everything now adays.
The problem isn't that the file came from a basketball game. It's that almost everyone posting DLSS 5 videos is cranking all of the sliders to 2x instead of having them at 1x or wherever else developers might intend for it to be.
They are deliberately changing the settings to make it look like shit and then complaining that it looks like shit.
I tried it in cyberpunk as well and while the performance hit was a bit much for my 5070ti (a performance drop close to 30% fps), the results I thought looked great and there’s probably room for efficiency improvements. You can easily disregard anyone using the term “slop” to describe dlss5 as acting in bad faith because if the only reason they hate it is because it’s AI, then their reasoning is emotional and personal, subjective and not objective. No self respecting reviewer with a remaining shred of integrity would use only the word “slop” to describe the technology. The artistic vision argument has some legs to stand on but I’m waiting to see what actual devs think of it instead of white knighting for others whose job I know nothing about.
Honestly, while the uncanny valley element is there, it is clear that most people are just hating on it for the sake of hating it. Like these people can't seem to explain why it looks bad when it's clear the lighting and interaction with the model textures look far more natural.
To be fair, I have the intensity slider at 200% here also. Here's a comparison of 100 and 200. I blame Reshade, luts, that sort of thing. I normally use Renodx for better HDR and maybe a lut. But right now they're disabled because HDR is hard to take a screenshot of properly.
Here's a screenshot for a change of something that is not a face. Another fan favorite - a car! But at least it is not overcast and you can see how it makes parts of the shadows lighter to simulate the light bouncing off surfaces on a bright day? Which is interesting, because in games usually the shadows are of the same intensity, so to speak, throughout their entire extent, unless there's a light source, and here you can see that the car shadow is lighter in the right part, as if the light bounces from the ground to the car and back to the ground. And the building shadow gets progressively lighter in the distance as well.
Just because you can go overboard with dlss5 settings and some people have no idea when to stop doesn't mean that there are not opportunities to make things look good. This is why there are modes and sliders. Issue is that people set it to taste and some just don't have taste :D
That being said, I am 100% behind developers releasing in-game profiles, which is what will end up happening anyway.
Right now some people are getting an orgasm over detail, which not only shouldn't be visible, but destroys creative intent.
Yes, dlss can round off nicely edges and add shadows, but it doesn't mean that this should happen at any depth of the scene, this is not how human vision works.
it actually looks fine here. tbh i find both Johnny and Solomon to look very uncanny compared to the actors. the dlss 5 edit does add some subsurface details in this case, buuuuut it has that uncanny AI glow to it.
I saw another one of The last of us 2 and the characters details doesn't match the world, which makes it of.
But, I saw another one of basketball 2k game and hot dignity it look real but with video game movement.
Probably because the model is based on a real actor that you’re familiar with their face. The filter makes it more realistic but farther away from what the real actor looks like, making it look dogshit because your brain knows exactly what it’s “supposed” to look like
I'm amazed how many people think that shinier and better lighting = more realistic graphics. It's the stupid "realistic GTA mods" which are just the city after a flood situation all over again.
It's genuinely concerning how much I see people glazing this now, especially considering how clowned it was when it was first showcased.
It looks the same as the original showcase: adding shadows that don't exist, adding detail that doesn't exist, and going for photo realism when it's not needed.
It's still just an AI filter. That's all it is. It does not have the data necessary to "guess" what stuff should be, it only has data for what's on screen, and it just AI slops shit into existence. And people are eating it up like it's nothing. I even saw some people saying they hope the next iteration is AI generated animations... We're so fucked. We were worried about Gen AI being used in game development, turns out we're just gonna have real-time AI video generation over games, and we're gonna love it.
