Can't find an article about it yet, but here's part of the email that was sent to Drexel students and faculty. Really unfortunate but not very surprising with the way things have been going there for the last few years.

Serious Missed Connection: South Philly Cinderella

I was riding my bike to dinner in South Philly and saw a beautiful woman covered in pigeons. There were at least 20 on / near her.

I stopped and asked her about the pigeon feeding and fell in love with her grace and pigeon geekiness. We talked for 5 or 10 minutes.

Then I rode away.

For my South Philly / Passyunk folks, I’m assuming she’s Philly famous.

If anyone knows her, do me a gigantic favor and say.

Remember that annoying guy on a green bike. Yeah he liked you.

Or if - miraculously you’re reading this Cinderella- and you’re currently open to new connections- hit me up.

I’ll tell you about the time I fed squirrels. Or cats.

EDIT. thanks for the upvotes squad. Let’s keep spreading the word. We got this. If / when there’s a wedding yall are invited. Even the snarky commenters. For the ~10% who downvoted- I know your angle. All is fair…

News Philadelphia schools begin transition process ahead of closures

"the school system prepares to implement a 10-year, $3 billion initiative to shutter 17 schools and reinvest in upgrades at other facilities, district leaders say.

Some of that work will happen through School Transition Committees, which are being set up at schools that will be closing or beginning a phase-out at the end of the year, as well as those receiving new students next year. Such groups are being established at 50 schools over the coming weeks.

Administrators say they are hoping to find a mix of teachers, staff, parents, students and community members for each committee. Applications opened Monday.

...

Online applications are available at philasd.org/fpp[*], and members of the public can also submit general input on the transition process through that website."

* The application form is at https://www.philasd.org/fpp/#sto-forms .

The application process opens August 31 and closes on September 18, 2026.
Use this application if you want to serve on a School Transition Committee for one of the 50 schools listed below.

Question? Looking for community space for yoga class

Upvotes

I'm looking into starting a weekly yoga/movement class (30-40 minutes) for kids around the ages of 4-5 years old. I've tried looking online for local community centers or libraries but I'm not finding what I'm looking for exactly. Ideally, the space would be free/cheap, in the northwest area or surrounding suburbs, and open on the weekends.

Does anyone know of any spaces that might work for this?

Question? Seeking vet suggestions for my anxious cat

I am looking for a vet that can handle cats who hate the vet or (ideally) a vet that does house calls. Currently I take my cat to Art Museum Vet, and they've been great, but she has to be fully sedated when she goes there. That isn't a huge deal for a yearly check-up but when things come up (like the new lumps/bumps on her neck), full sedation feels like overkill and is pretty inconvenient.

At her current vet, she is perfectly friendly with the vet techs, happy to eat out of their hands... but as soon as they try to pick her up for an exam she goes into full feral mode. Even on gabapentin.

Happy to pay more or travel if it means she can have a better experience.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions you can offer.

Anyone else notice that all of the parking signs have been removed and pay kiosks have been covered?

Wonder if they are expanding travel lanes to cover for Market St bridge closure.

Question? Affordable coworking spots

I’m trying to find an affordable coworking office within walking distance of Rittenhouse/Grad Hospital without much luck. CultureWorks seemed super promising at $100 a month, but they didn’t follow up after I reached out for details about how to try it out/sign up.

Any other ideas or thoughts on places to avoid, etc? I’m just looking for a place I can work in the mornings three times a week when I typically don’t have zoom meetings. I’m fortunate to have a remote job, but being home so much is starting to feel isolating.

Update: thanks for all of these ideas! Hoping it’s useful to others, as well
