Temple Emergency Room Doesn't let Family Members sit with Patient in Waiting Room?

Hi everybody, just reaching out to see how normal this is. A family member needed to go to the emergency room, and we went to Temple, since this is related to a complication from a procedure done at Temple, and the relevant doctor is at Temple, so I figured if the doctor needed contacted it would be easier.

We go to the emergency room, and I as a family member was not permitted to wait in the waiting room with the patient. The front staff told me I can come back once the patient is taken into a room. I just find this odd. My family member and I would prefer me to be there and wait with them, I don’t know how long the wait to be. Having somebody there for moral support is vastly superior than waiting alone. I confirmed my family member can call me when they go into a room and they will let me in.

I asked why and they said it’s hospital policy. However there was an individual in front of us, who was in a wheeled assistance vehicle, their family member was allowed into the waiting room with them. Can a family member only go into the waiting room if the patient requires them for transport?

Be nice if there were extra chairs for rejected family members like myself to sit outside.

I have not had this experience at other emergency rooms.

That's the only location I'm asking about. Thank you.

If you travel - get receipts at Travel Plazas! Clerks giving themselves $5 tips. Happened to me 3 times now. They try not to give receipts (aka proof), so you have to make them and then check it!

Philadelphia Marathon Accommodation

Hi all,

Need some help on best places to stay for the Philadelphia marathon. I’ve had 2 air b and bs cancel on me in the last month.

I don’t mind staying a bit away from the start line if there is a shuttle bus/public transport. I haven’t a clue as I’m not from the United States.

Are Ubers easy to get at 5:30am? What’s my best options?

TIA!

News helicopter is annoying and wasteful

Hovering over a residential neighborhood at night to get some crappy video of nothing while waking everyone up and making chaos. This is totally pointless and wasteful. Send a drone that would be much more quiet. I know there’s nothing to do but maybe these news stations should get more criticism over it.

NYC Commute Question

I am looking for honest answers but also a little optimism. I live in Center City, about a 10 minute walk from 30th street station. I previously worked within 10 minutes walking from my place, but accepted a job in Manhattan that pays way more and is more importantly with a much more stable organization not going through difficult times financially, and offers an expanded role.

Their official policy is full time in office, but my manager seems very flexible so I feel like its possible they will allow for slightly different hours or even working from home here or there.

From everything I hear, people say it’s challenging but doable, but i also hear people saying they prefer it only if they only have to go in several times a week. For me though, the stressful part of commutes has always been driving, so while it will still be tough, I actually dont know that I would mind the hour and a half train ride all that much.

Has anyone managed this somewhat successfully? Any tips? It was somewhat of necessity to take the job, I don’t want to move my kid out of his current school, and I have a solid network of friends and support in philly so id rather not leave if possible.

Edit: I would be paying 1250 a month for a daily to and from amtrak ticket, which is roughly how much more I would be paying in rent looking at most of the places I found in NYC (which would be tinier and with most likely less attractive schools

Edit 2: it’s like a 40% increase in pay which will mostly be eaten by the train and subway cost, but again it’s with an institution (AMNH) that is more stable than my current institution which is in hot water, and I need stable employment for among other things immigration considerations.

FIFA Philly bracelet??

Post image
Upvotes

Hey everybody! Unfortunately, I moved the year that FIFA comes into town. But I saw a charm that is of the LOVE sign and fell in love with it. When I first moved to Philly, that's the first thing I saw, so the sign is super sentimental to me. I was wondering if anyone here would be willing to sell one? Thank you so much and GO BIRDS!!

If anyone has an extra ticket, I’ll buy it!! I waited too late to register :(

Edit: if you’re able to say something in your DM to let me know you’re not a bot, that would be superb. I just got 15 rapid-fire messages that all look scammy

Eagles/Temple tailgating after kickoff

Upvotes

I have a group of about 20 coming next weekend for the PSU/Temple and we have about half going to the game and half not. We have a TV set up so the plan was just to have that group watch outside during the game.

Someone brought to my attention today that you can’t keep tailgating after kickoff at the Linc.

Is this true? And if so, is it tightly enforced?

Dentist recs for phobia and anxiety of being judges for lack of dental care

Exactly as the title says. I have a fear of dentists due to extremely unpleasant past experience. Haven't been to see a dentist in almost 20 years because of it and I'm terrified of being judged for this.

Anywhere in CC or South Philly.

ISO: Clothing donation sites

I'm moving in a few months and generally have more clothing than I could ever wear or need. I lack the media following that would be necessary to drum up a clothing swap event, but I'd rather my clothes go somewhere they will be used or repurposed in some way than to big store bins where they will likely be thrown out.

Does anyone have recommendations for organizations that are seeking used clothing donations, or places that are seeking fabric to be repurposed?

Wall of busts(plaster boobs)

Had a flashback today, does anyone recall a club, bar, restaurant that had a wall of plaster boobs like an art piece. It was back in the good ole times of shampoo, fluid ministry of information era in the city. I sorta am pulling for St Jacks but no one can back that claim. I’m talking like 20-30 sets of breasts. AI says National mechanics but I went and talked to bartender and he gave me a “not here” sorry to make you guys open your brains that far back but what ya got…anyone???

Help me find this guy?

Post image
84 Upvotes

Long story short, I got into an accident and let this guy tow my car. I thought the other party called him, but he was a rev chaser. I called the cops but they rode pass the accident, and I needed to go to the hospital so I let him take it.

While he had my car, he took cash, stuff I had for work, my gas card, and idk what else. My job will let me off if I file a police report and show them, but I cant do that without his name. I only have a number and he never gave his real name. I have this card but the address it fake.

Can someone help me find him? I get into an accident and end up in the hospital and this guy steals my shit.

He’s lightskin, about 5’6, doesn’t get hair cuts. He also said his nickname was “too/two/to”. My car got towed to south philly if that helps.

For those who don’t know this, the Academy of Natural Sciences makes up less than 1% of Drexel’s annual budget. They’re using it as a scapegoat for a multi-billion dollar issue.

Edit: someone asked for a source, so here it is https://whyy.org/articles/drexel-university-faces-budget-shortfall-enrollment-drop-exploring-staff-cuts/

https://www.inquirer.com/education/academy-of-natural-sciences-closing-museum-philadelphia-20260901.html

Annual Drexel Budget: $1.5 billion
Academy budget from Drexel: $10 million
Total percentage of Drexel budget that goes to the museum: 0.67%

They’re saving peanuts by taking the museum from us.
