This isn’t a “Meta censored them deliberately” thing. It’s a “snowflakes got mad at a viral post and mass-reported it thing.”
Accounts that get mass-reported get taken down automatically, pending human review. It’ll almost certainly get restored once that happens, unless something on their account actually did violate terms of service.
If you wanna get mad at Meta, there are much better reasons. I quit all their properties in 2016. (Though I had to get WhatsApp for international travel 😭 I delete it again after each trip. Still mad they bought it.)
Ehhhh, Meta is perfectly capable of automatically detecting the difference between snowflakes getting butthurt and actual illegal content if they wanted to. It's not "deliberate" in the sense that someone at Meta said "fuck this strip club in particular," but it's certainly "deliberate" in the sense that the system was intentionally designed to suck up to the snowflakes by censoring whatever rustled their jimmies.
So, yeah, Meta censored them deliberately, by building a system intentionally designed to overreact, and then leaving the trigger for that system where anybody who wants to censor things can reach it.
They also don't seem to care about racism reports. Like very blatant racism. It's weird. I keep wondering if it's AI powered decision making or some people at Meta like it.
I have some sympathy for them on that front... Humans reviewing complaints in real-time is too expensive. Any time they try to make a rule, there are corner cases. Like when they were like no nudity and then breastfeeding women lost their minds at their pictures being flagged. And then they were like "okay breastfeeding is okay" and immediately there's pictures of adults breastfeeding from other adults. No matter what rule they make, somebody gonna exploit it and other people gonna be outraged. It's a fight they can't win, just measure how badly they lose.
Oh man, then there's cultural norms that vary across the globe...

I don't believe any corporation that says they're too poor to purchase human labor at market rates, and I definitely don't believe it when that corporation is simultaneously paying its executives far more than enough to do so.
A quick Google search shows that Zuck makes about $10M every hour. Even if you paid the content moderators $20/hr, well above minimum wage, that's still enough money to employ a team of 500,000 content moderators, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. That would be bigger than the city of Omaha.
Human reviewers are entirely within the economic reach of platform companies like Meta. The reason they don't use them is because their end goal is to avoid paying human beings at all, not because they are poor destitute companies struggling to make ends meet, as they seem to have convinced you.
He doesn't make $10M per hour. His net worth may go up that much, but that's because he owns a company with increasing value, not that he's receiving massive cash infusions.
Also doesn't solve cultural norms that vary across the world, or the different opinions on what is acceptable from their berjillion users. And for that matter, how to get humans to apply standards consistently. You're lucky if you can get 5 people in a room to apply the same standards.
They'd also have to compete with companies that don't do that. I think one of the best arguments for regulation is to remove the added cost of "doing the right thing".
It's not a question of "can they afford it", it's a question of priority. The system they have in place now works fine. They don't need to spend time and energy creating a slightly better system to avoid accounts being down for a couple of hours here and there because of people mass reporting them. It's a waste of time to improve it from its current state, even if it's techincally affordable.
Yeah this is one of those things that people clown on but is perfectly reasonable. The other option is news stories about how gore photos stay up for days because reports only matter when people find them
In The Netherlands we had the same during our World Pride event. A few clubs and organisations got wiped due to reporting. It took a few days but they restored it.
It's not being soft, it's information control and muzzling of dissidents. All done by corporate interests and non governmental service providers on top of that.
Because he's still the President and has a huge amount of power. Some people obviously want to use that for their own advantage while others simply don't want to piss him off.

Trump recently botched repairs to the Capitol Reflecting Pool, a massive pool in Washington D.C.. He allegedly chose a company he's friends with and told them to rush the job to have it ready for America250. The pool has notoriously had problems, but these choices almost contributed to the new blue paint he ordered put on the bottom to almost immediately peel off in chunks. The administration immediately accused a few people who got near the pool and touched/documented the chunks of vandalizing it, rather than owning up to their mistakes of hiring Trump's buddy to do a rush job, and someone was brought to court. The charge was dismissed when paperwork was found advising there were problems with the repair but the administration is still claiming it's true. Pool still isn't fixed.
Recently Trump has also been on a spree of renaming bodies of water touching the U.S. to have "America" in them. A few months ago he re-named the Gulf of Mexico to "The Gulf of America". A few days ago he said he was re-naming Lake Ontario (a province in Canada) to "Lake America".
So this is saying "Can't handle a pool" (still can't fix the pool months later that is 100% actually owned by the White House) "But wants our lake?" (Claiming a body of water on the border that both countries have agreed to name Lake Ontario is now "Lake America" somehow).
Unrelated but the two things above are part of the Trump administration's long-standing strategy created by his strategist called "flood the zone" - gain media attention, disorient opponents and distract the public from undesirable reports by rapidly forwarding large volumes of newsworthy information to the media. The more stupid shit the Trump administration pushes, the more media attention goes to that instead of things like the Epstein Files.
On a certain level, being grotesquely ugly might be part of the equation, to allow them to equate to the common man. Hitler and Mussolini were two ugly MFers. Stalin was rocking the Sellek stache and even he looked like a chud.
Surely a people who value a nice walleye would understand that Trump was just trolling, since he's desperate for a public distraction from his war, the economy and the Epstein files
