Had lung surgery last week at 60. Recovery hits different at this age.

You should've written "These are not lungs" on your arms.

Good luck man, take it easy on yourself.

u/Timely_Bunch_8607 7h ago

Haha, that would have been a great safety measure! Thanks for the laugh and the good wishes, man!

u/bautofdi 5h ago

As a doctor that does arm and lung surgeries, it’s too easy of a mistake to make. One of the most common errors when I need to go in and remove both your lungs. I’ve also accidentally removed the patient’s head a number of times.

u/rmfnord 4h ago

It's pretty common, I'd say, and not limited strictly to the medical profession. People tend to just brush it off and forget about it, but go to any community pool and the number of kids nearly drowning because they keep waving their arms instead of lifting their heads out of the water is pretty crazy. Between the constant high fives and CPR it's a pretty tough lifeguard gig.

u/fallen_d3mon 3h ago

Guys am I removing the arm or the lung?

https://giphy.com/gifs/hM9zK1qvsrwek

u/Silent-G 3h ago

It's true, I've had my head removed a number of times. That number is 0, but still, it's alarming that it's something that can be quantified.

u/Crozax 1h ago

My dad went in for a rotator cuff surgery and the anesthesiologist numbed his brain stem instead of his shoulder so happens more often than ya think

u/PartTimePoster 51m ago

Average Rimworld doctor experience

u/rmfnord 7h ago

Yeah, OP is about to make bank on a medical malpractice suit for sure.

u/Suspicious-Car66 7h ago

Paid an arm and another arm in medical bills, I see. ;-)

Looking great and positive vibes for full recovery!!

u/Timely_Bunch_8607 7h ago

Haha, good one! Yes, medical bills can really cost you an arm or two! 😂 Thanks for the laugh and the great vibes!

u/systemhost 2h ago

Yeah, he really should've negotiated for the standard "arm and a leg" rate instead...

Either way, also hoping for a smooth recovery.

u/boardplant 7h ago

Best of luck!

u/Timely_Bunch_8607 7h ago

Thank you so much! I appreciate it.

How did he type this?

/s All the best in recovery, OP!

u/Timely_Bunch_8607 7h ago

I actually type with my foot on my PC keyboard! Years of practice. Thanks for the wishes!

u/WayneMed17 7h ago

That must have taken an enormous amount of patience. Well done, sir! I wish you the best in your recovery.

u/Timely_Bunch_8607 6h ago

Thank you so much!

u/Darpo 4h ago

He started typing that message when the picture was taken

u/railwayed 6h ago

everyday I am reminded of the small things we take for granted. You rock my man. Hope you get better soon

u/Timely_Bunch_8607 6h ago

Thank you !

u/Animesanta 6h ago

That's cool! How fast can you navigate on that?

u/Timely_Bunch_8607 6h ago

Varianta 1 (Naturală și detaliată): I’ve never actually timed it, but I’ve been typing like this for 14 years now, so I can type pretty fast! Practice makes perfect.

u/DrExcess 6h ago

My guy, I'm able bodied but recently I rarely type anything. Have you seen / heard of Wispr Flow? It's voice dictation but it punctuates and removes mistakes and repeats etc.. Would be perfect for you.

u/ailish 6h ago

That's impressive. I'm not even coordinated with my hands let alone my feet.

u/quaintbucket 5h ago

How are you on Quake?

u/Bevier 40m ago

Brother, you might want to try the Rango browser with Talon voice. You can also check out the Tobii eye tracker.

I've been dealing with arthritis and typing has been difficult. I've been benefiting from voice to text through the FUTO keyboard on Android and it's been a huge help. So something like the setup I was talking about for the PC might be nice for you. Voice to text has come a long way.

u/Timely_Bunch_8607 24m ago

Thank you so much for the recommendations! I know voice-to-text and eye-tracking technology have come a long way, but the really good setups and software cost a lot of money, which I don't have right now. Plus, after 14 years, I've gotten so used to typing with my foot that it feels completely natural to me. I really appreciate your helpful advice, though!

u/A1ienspacebats 3h ago

Even in socks..

You're a madman!!

I been in the battle a long time. 62, MDS blood cancer, then a bone marrow transplant, now acute graft versus host. I'm waiting to see my oncologist as I write this. Every day I am grateful for my medical professionals and that I am still alive. 🙏🏻 Keep up the good fight brother. It takes forever sometimes but it sure beats the alternative. 💪🏻

u/Timely_Bunch_8607 7h ago

Thank you so much, brother. Your strength is truly inspiring. Sending you so much love and positive energy for your appointment today. Let's keep fighting this battle together! 💪🏻

u/MotoRandom 7h ago

I appreciate it. Be well my friend.

u/ekso69 7h ago

Looking good @60 dude. Where are your arms at, the didn't remove them to fix your lungs right?

Hehe.

u/Timely_Bunch_8607 7h ago

Haha, good one! Don't worry, my arms were lost years ago in a train accident, they didn't touch them for the lung surgery!

u/rawker86 7h ago

I imagine that the rest of your body was quite beat-up as well but it’s no longer obvious? I’m very curious how your arms were so damaged that it was necessary to amputate at both shoulders but the rest of you was (comparatively) unharmed.

u/Timely_Bunch_8607 6h ago

Actually, my arms weren't surgically amputated. They were completely torn off (traumatic avulsion) during the train accident. It's a miracle I survived the rest of the impact, but that's what happened.

u/CervezaSmurf 5h ago

You can't just drop that without giving the exact details. Were you working on the train or were you a passenger or were you outside the train were you inside how did your arms get such force applied to them

u/kevinhuynh95 5h ago

Oh my god, i cant even imagine. Were you the only one harmed were there many harmed?

u/idkartist3D 2h ago

Holy SHIT you are one tough cookie my guy, massive kudos for everything you've gone through! Wishing you nothing but the best in future ♥️

u/Timely_Bunch_8607 55m ago

Thank you so much!

u/DiscotopiaACNH 1h ago

Holy shit that is insane. I can't even begin to imagine what that was like

u/MrZephy 7h ago

Jesus… thanks for sharing. I hope you get your bionics. Wish you a speedy recovery old man.

u/Timely_Bunch_8607 6h ago

Thank you so much, man. Honestly, getting bionic arms is my ultimate dream and the main reason I am here on Reddit. It feels almost impossible right now, but I'm not giving up hope. Thank you for the wishes! 🙏🏻

u/Timely_Bunch_8607 7h ago

Thank you so much! Doing my best to stay positive every day. ❤️

u/joemaniaci 5h ago

I knew surgery can cost an arm or a leg but I didn't think it was literal.

u/cntrdctn86 5h ago

I find this response disarming.

u/Umbreon86 7h ago

Glad you survived that, it is a complicated surgery. My neighbour also had a more serious surgery a month time ago where they had to fix his main vein as it had gone out of control and baggy, so they had to cut him up quite some through the torso. He survived it, thankfully.

u/Timely_Bunch_8607 6h ago

Thank you so much! I am very glad to hear your neighbor survived his surgery as well. Torso and chest surgeries are incredibly tough on the body, so it’s a blessing we are both here. Wishing him a smooth recovery too! 🙏🏻

u/Damagedbob12 4h ago

How did you upload this and type that out?? Generally curious no hate

u/Timely_Bunch_8607 4h ago

No worries at all! I actually use my foot to type on my PC keyboard and navigate the mouse. I’ve been doing it for 14 years, so it's second nature to me now!

u/Platti_J 7h ago

What happened to your arms? Did they screw up?

u/Timely_Bunch_8607 7h ago

No, the doctors did a great job! I actually lost my arms in a train accident many years ago, the lung surgery was completely separate.

u/Platti_J 7h ago

Oh snap. How did that happen? I'm guessing the train won? Congrats on the successful lung surgery. We're you a smoker before?

u/Timely_Bunch_8607 6h ago

Yeah, the train definitely won that fight. As for smoking, yes, I used to smoke, but I quit. I haven't touched a cigarette since the surgery! Thanks for the wishes.

Hey man - the number hasn't stopped yet.

u/zymetaphoxate 4h ago

Man. Amputees just make me ashamed of myself for being depressed and sucdal. Sorry for making this about me but that's the guilt I feel each time of my privilege.

I don't believe in God but damn, may you be hella hella blessed. And maybe paint or play the piano with your legs!

u/Timely_Bunch_8607 3h ago

Please don't feel guilty. Everyone fights their own battles, and mental health is just as tough. As for your subgestion, I don't have a talent for painting or music, but I absolutely love to write! Writing has been my way of expressing myself for 14 years. Stay strong, my friend, and thank you for the beautiful blessings! 🙏🏻

The PJ and sunglasses makes you look like a mob boss roused out of bed/saturday siesta to be delivered bad news, juxtaposing underlying power and seriousness with a somewhat silly patterned sleeping attire.

Only need a glass of orange juice to complete the frame.

Best recovery to you.

I hear you! Just did double jaw surgery at 50 and watching all the 20 year olds post about how they recovered in 3 months, while I’m still struggling here after more than a year, is sobering. But we’re still here and we’ll get there, it just takes a little longer. We got this.

u/squidefender 5h ago

Unfortunately he could not hit back.

u/kenfury 5h ago

I had major surgery at around 20 and another one around 50. Recovery and PT times were very different. Would not reccomend.

u/Cheetohz 4h ago

I had to have a lung removed at 30 due to cancer. I didn't have to go through chemo thankfully. it was just a one time surgery. recovery took a year.

at one week, I think you're recovering better than I did at 30. my surgeon regularly did open heart surgeries and said lung surgeries have the worst recoveries of anything.

keep on keeping on brother.

u/atomheartmama 3h ago

Best wishes to you! Wishing you a speedy recovery 💐

u/NoninflammatoryFun 3h ago

My grandpa had a quadruple bypass this year at 86 😆

We really are in the exact same boat! Please tell him happy early 60th birthday from me. It is incredibly tough right now, but tell him another 60-year-old brother is fighting the same battle and sending him strength. It gets better day by day!

u/Gryphin 5h ago

Bro is about to step into the Pete & Bas rap world, and drop Unarmed and Dangerous as his first single with this as the album cover. "Armed like a tripod, need no digits when the girlies keep throwing theirs."

Joking aside, at first glance, I had to double take and go "what fucked up camera angle made both his arms disappear like that?" Then I scrolled, and saw your train story. Holy fuck man, you're already a badass survivor. You got this lung thing solved.
