homemade discbound inserts

so im pretty new to the discbound planner world and i’ve noticed it can get pretty pricey. i’ve found shops charging $7+shipping for 15 pages, while some of the bigger brands have packs starting around $14+.

so i’m curious if anyone here prints and punch their own planner pages? do you buy templates and then cut the pages down to fit your planner, or do you make your own templates?

i have a 7-disc planner, so finding pre-punched pages that fit can be a little difficult.

for those of you who DIY your pages what type/weight of paper or cardstock do you print on? any suggestions on where to get templates? any help would be appreciated as i’m trying to find a more affordable way to build up my planner

I bought a heavy duty discbound punch from Levenger about a dozen years ago. It was pricey, but I'm not sorry to have it.

I have never used a discbound planner; but I've used it for all sorts of other things, including my DM's "bible" for my long running D&D game. I'm sure one could use it as a planner. You could either create your own layout in Microsoft Publisher or Adobe InDesign, or you could probably find a lot of options for printables on Etsy.

I use a variety of paper, from basic copier paper to Tomoe River, and I've even printed and punched light cardstock for dividers and/or pages I need to hold up to a lot of use.

I print my own Happy Planner Mini and Classic pages. The Happy Planner website gives the page dimensions, so I set up blank templates in PowerPoint. (Remember to leave room for the holes.)

I use 28lb or higher paper, or cardstock for dividers. I make bookmarks out of thicker scrapbook paper.

The official Happy Planner hole punches can often be found for pretty cheap at Goodwill, and other thrift stores. I have the pink one that accommodates all sizes.

There are Etsy stores that sell files of pages, but I like designing my own. The only tricky part is trying to print 2-sided pages. I suck at that, lol.

I’ve done it! I used a half sheet of 8.5”x11” to approximate A5 and that Levenger punch.
