Question Track marks
Never have gone to a plasma center I have a question
Recovering H addict okay so this is my “good” arm will they deny me for track marks ? I can take a UA I was thinking about maybe wearing a sling on my bad arm it’s very very bad …. But I can pass a UA and I need $ super bad to go to Ireland for dad’s funeral in 2 weeks … yes I work but I’m a widow father of 2 kids under 3 yrs old I’m paycheck to paycheck and obviously I’m going to have to get a flight for my kids too

Please, just don’t donate or lie about the medications you’re taking or have taken. :c or your history with drugs and substances. It’s just not ethical, and could hurt someone or yourself.

I’m sorry for what you have gone through, substance abuse is no joke, and I am sorry your father passed away… I have all the sympathy and condolences in the world. It seems you were raised so far away from your dad, and I’m not sure the whole story but that’s hard on a young man and I am sorry of your wife’s passing.You’ve been really hit hard in life, and truly wish this was an option… I hope money comes in some way or form. But I can’t imagine the pain you’ve gone through in life… It’s hard when past mistakes resurface when you did the best you could coping with a tragic reality, and you have two kids… who probably ask about their mother and things, serving as more pain while you have had to shelf your own feelings on the matter slowly eating away at you.
Raising 2 by yourself, being a single dad. I hope more people comment with empathy than focusing on track marks<3 It’s even harder to raise kids when family is all over the map, I really hope… You’re okay. Thanks for just being and fighting the strong fight.. donr be a stranger I think there’s more communities overall on Reddit, that will emotionally give hugs, because what you’re doing is difficult…
*Best thing to do is check with the facility and see their outlines(What they allow and if they allow past history of IV drugs are an issue or not).

Oh god thank you this is what I needed to hear right now did the man upstairs just sent me an answer to my first prayer since I was in Juvenal detention for setting fire to my sisters abuser aka her piano instructor ugh but this world is very very ickey the coincidences you sent me something that meaningful in these trying times in my life gave me a small confidence boost . Typing this out while tears are rolling down my cheek thank you 🙏 I’m not going into details but you might of saved my life today …. Makes me want to spread happiness and comfort .again thank you I’m actually crying ugh this is exactly why you don’t bottle of emotions so you can “stay strong” for others

Oh my goodness sugar, let’s talk on discord sometime and get you set up. Sounds like you could write a book, you shouldn’t always have to “stay” strong you need a place to break down and feel safe. We all do, life can be way too much for regular coping strategies and it sounds like you’ve been through a lot of trauma and unresolved grief.

You are not eligible to donate if you have ever used intravenous drugs. And don't expect to lie because they will need to examine both arms.

Any history of injection drug use will disqualify you. They will do a body inspection covering everything but your junk.
Sorry, but plasma donation isn't for you.

Wtf? I go to biolife and the “physical” did not require me to remove any clothes at all. Just looked at my arms, asked about any medical conditions or medications i take.

They didnt listen to your lungs and heart as well? Mine was a pretty standard physical minus the dropping of pants of coughing.

Yearly? I do a physical every 15 donations, but that only includes talking to a doctor about my protein levels, checking my heart, lungs and that stuff. Early, I had to remove my shirt, but the chrrent doctors just want me to lift my shirt so they can get to my back and listen to my breathing and heart.

I've donated plasma at 3 different companies and have never had a body inspection. grifols, biolife, and kedplasma. they looked at my ankles for swelling, pushed on my belly, and listened to my heart & lungs. thats it. and obviously the arm check, but thats a given.

Kedplasma is also supposed to check between the toes and on the back of the knees as well for track marks. Ked was required to do so. The physician substitute doing your physical either needs to be corrected or you don’t remember correctly.

i just started at kedplasma 2 or 3 months ago, i remember just fine. and there are 3 different people that do these physicals, and i know several people that go there as donors. none of them have done any of that during physicals. i have never had to remove any kind of clothing or shoes at a plasma center.

I have worked at a Kedplasma for years and chaperoned several physicals. They must not follow proper protocols at your location.

Well actually things have really changed….. according to the CSL Medical Staff Reference, the deferment for illegal IV drug use is 3 months from last use. As far as the track marks scarring just be prepared for reception to send you to medical every time for an arm check. There is always the chance that the scarring is too much and your veins are just shot at which point that in itself could lead to a permanent deferral.
As far as the neighbor, the fact that he is on dialysis should be enough to permanently defer him.

Under federal law, a plasma center’s responsible physician must ensure that a donor is in good health and free from any risk factors that could compromise the final product. These plasma centers that pay people? They abide by the permanent ban from plasma donation because you may have the risk of being contaminated with diseases. They don't know this and don't want to take the risk. They won't even accept a hospitals tests even if you go and have every known test taken to show you are disease free. It doesn't matter to them that you are clean. They hold everyone's plasma for 60 days to test it to ensure it is clean. But they don't accept anyone with a history or sign of prior drug abuse because it just isn't worth it to them when so many who are clean are willing to donate.

Don’t donate. Find another way to make money. Your arms are checked at my plasma center each time you donate.

I feel like if you wear a sling, it would just be more noticeable to me but I feel like you would be permanently deferred for just lying alone.

I’ve seen donors that somehow made it through and donated, despite having obvious track marks but it’s a gamble and unethical. As an employee, I’ve reported donors who seemed like they were actively using as well and somehow management was unable to do anything. Unsure where you are located but you might be able to participate in a study at a pharmaceutical company. Otherwise uber/doordash/instacart might be the best options. In two weeks you probably wouldn’t get enough money donating plasma anyway.

The BioLife and CSL centers I went to checked arms and legs in the physicals. Each center will have its protocols intended to promote safe donation for donor and safe blood products for recipients. IV drug use is not conducive for either group.

Okay but my morbidly obese neighbor can load up meth and shoot it into his dialysis port and has NEVER been sober in his adult life … he used to shoot up his meth in his neck all because he didn’t want to loose his plasma $

Since 2021 from opioid’s I do ketamine every other month for my mental health it truly saved my life

Not gonna comment on plassing. But just wanted to say I'm super proud of you for getting and staying clean. As a recovering addict myself, I get. And that strength is worth more than most will ever know. Keep it up!

The only place that will defer you for past IV drug use is Biolife. As long as you're honest with other centers, as well as let them know how long its been, you're good.

You can't even be a "recovering addict" in the books and still qualify. You can't also be in a sling, since many injuries prevent you from the ability to donate. That said, give it a shot and use your best judgement in answering questions

You will be permanently deferred. High risk behavior illicit drug use carries alot of risk to our potential patients that we don’t want to risk putting them through
