Any info on this watch? Considering keeping it since it’s in working condition

Can anyone tell me anything about this watch? I see the case was made in the U.S. by Philadelphia Watch Case Co. My grandfather brought it back from his service in France in WW2. I’m not sure if he took it from a German soldier (as it was in a box with a bunch of German military badges) or if he took it with him to Europe. In any event, do you think it would be repairable? When you wind it it just makes a clicking sound and doesn’t wind the main spring.

Simply curious! I got this a couple years ago from an abandoned building in a northern state. I know the community rules say to show the back/inside but i can’t get it open for the life of me and i’m damaging the metal (any tips there for getting it open?)

Is it possible that this is the original case for this movement? Maybe the movement was sold separately but I don't really know how that worked, as you can see, there are little screw marks near the screws of the movement, for context, my great-great-grandfather was a railroad worker, it was his, after years, he stopped using it and it was never used after that, my grandmother kept it safe and it is now mine, the only thing I don't really understand is how are cases really dated, I'm just trying to learn more about it, here's the information for this movement https://pocketwatchdatabase.com/search/result/elgin/37223763

Hi everyone, I have this manual-wind Swiss movement pocket watch that I know belonged to my great great uncle (born roughly in the 1910’s, Portugal). I tried to figure out the maker, which could, maybe, lead me to a manufacture year but with no luck. It says “Ruby Sport” in the dial which I don’t know if it refers to the manufacturer or a specific line/model.

The caseback has also the number 567062 engraved, along with a couple of other small handmade marks that are difficult to understand.

Any help with the manufacturer, year of production or movement/caliber?

Parex with a blue guilloche enamel bezel and white enamel dial. 110 years old no chips no cracks.

Enamel is basically glass melted onto metal. One bubble or crack and it's done no fix. In 1914 they cut the pattern by hand under the enamel then fired it a few times and hoped the silver wouldn't warp. Then it had to survive 110 years of being worn and bumped around.

The pattern still catches light through the enamel. Not paint, it's geometry under glass.

Would you wear it or leave it in a box?

I was getting out my car and my watch stopped working dont know what wrong and cannot afford to send it to get fixed, maybe looking for a new skill abd because i have another pocket watch thats having issues

I found an antique Elgin full case hunter and after checking its movement serial on the pocket watch database it says its a grade 312.

Google says its reliable and would be good for general use.

What do you guys think?

Hi all! Just aquired this Illinous Bunn Special pocketwatch! So far it does run, but it does currently lose around 2 minutes per day. Does it need to be adjusted, or is it due for a service?

I just know that it is a French , 48 mm diameter and nickel material , but I do not know possible year , type and movement .
It seems to work fine. I guess it a pretty common watch and not rare.

Welded lugs onto a 1900 Hebdomas. Got told I ruined it.

Reality: lugs welded to the original case, stamps and marks intact, movement untouched. Not a parts-mash — the same watch, now wearable.

As a pocket watch it sat in a drawer. Nobody wears a chain and vest in 2026. On a strap, in my opinion, it looks better. Before welding, nobody wore it. After, they do.

From the other markings on the pocket watch, I think this dates from the mid 19th century. 18K marking, weighs about 82 grams.

I broke the winding stem on an Elgin 18s, 316 grade, model 4 pocket watch in a Crescent Nickle case. I can't seem to find a matching stem anywhere online and my local watch repair shop would charge me more than what I paid for the watch.

Would it work to buy any donor pocket watch with this same movement and just transfer my working movement into the case of the donor?
