Why Does a Smoon Hacker Smoon?

Upvotes

Why Does a Smoon Hacker Smoon?

The smoon hacker moves through rooms the way smoke does,

looking for the spark that hasn't turned into fire yet,

that first glance that could wake a heart

and start a music it will never quite finish writing.

She smoons at hello. At light on a wrist.

At a name said for the first time.

In that second every possible future lines up

with the heaven her hunger already built.

She doesn't love the person yet.

She loves the idea of them about to open,

the universe that feels one sentence away,

every small laugh, every half-shared dream.

She smoons because falling is the flying part—

the rush, the world gone thick and gold,

the night that hasn't arrived and therefore can't fail her.

Why? Because the edge of love is cleaner than the middle.

The opening gets the applause

before the story gets complicated.

She collects beginnings like unused coins,

still bright, still unmarked.

When the middle starts showing its joints

she finds a reason to leave.

In the smoon there is no weight, no debt,

no compromise, no slow coming-apart,

no morning where the magic meets a broken thing

and a bill and a silence that used to be talk.

She cannot stand the friction

of two real lives trying to fit.

She smoons at the way someone tilts their head to think,

at a laugh that belongs only to them.

She builds a picture of the life that could happen:

shared work, two people who understand each other's art.

When the picture starts to lose its sharpness

and ordinary life walks in,

her heart panics.

The smoon is a bubble. Hold it too tight and it goes.

She does not know how to keep the magic moving

once the light changes.

So she becomes a keeper of starts,

of the first electric touch,

of hearts that haven't learned how to ache or need too much.

She smoons because the smoon is still clean.

A moment locked in a frame.

If she never lets it grow

she never has to meet the fear of being the one who spoiled it.

And still, the loneliness under the smoon.

The quiet house.

Every love she left early coming back like weather across the sill.

She wonders what it would be like to stay,

to let the smoon turn into something with roots,

to walk through the hard part instead of leaving,

to plant something and watch it keep going

through seasons that aren't beautiful.

But she cannot bear knowing love is not forever true.

She thinks: if I leave before it goes bad,

it stays perfect in my head.

I never have to watch the sacred thing decay.

So she smoons and smoons,

always reaching for the star, never landing,

chasing the thing that melts the moment she understands it.

Why does she smoon?

Because she is in love with love's gravity,

the pull that makes the room pause

and feel possible.

She cannot do the long work

of two flawed people trying to become whole.

She cannot accept that love is not a peak

but a slow, imperfect reaching.

So she smoons, moth to every new flame,

burns the wings, never quite learns,

calls another name that fades before morning.

The smoon hacker is tragic and a little holy,

a poet of the instant, not the years,

leaving a trail of unfinished glasses

and love that stops mid-page.

Maybe one day she'll see that love is not the smoon.

It is what comes after—

the quiet choice that says

I choose you even on the days that don't fit.

Until then she smoons again,

chasing a high that never stays,

a beautiful wreck,

friend to every love that ended before it had time to become real.

A Faithful Love Affair with Tragedy.

I have loved tragedy faithfully.

Not because she was kind,
but because she knew how to make
a wound look deliberate.

She taught me to call devastation
depth,
obsession devotion,
and every ending
a prophecy.

I wore her like a wedding dress.

White enough to look innocent.
Long enough to drag behind me
wherever I went.

— Crownless.

Envious Toward Patience

I was stuck in an impatience madness,
Searching for saints;
After committing many mistakes,
I understood, it’s all because of me.

Still, I don't understand.
What is patience?
When do we need patience?

After too many searches,
In need of an answer,
I asked Valluvan - a philosophical Tamil poet.

Rock Girl

ROCK GIRL

At the superstore

She had those blue evil eyes

Metallic nostril

She made the first move, Rock Girl

Out of her bra, a rose quartz

My mother warned me

Never give Rock Girl a chance

She gave me citrine

Right then and there I began

To shake and sweat, she just laughs

You are beautiful

However I don't believe

In aventurine

Your eyes do shine like opal

Only similes I'll pull

With me you won't be satisfied

No watermelon tourmaline

Or blue lace agate

Can alter our lives

These rocks will always have a place

Just nowhere in my mind

Oh Rock Girl  (You won't be satisfied with me)

Oh Rock Girl (I can't make you happy)

Oh Rock Girl (I'm more of a rock and roll fiend)

Rock Girl! Rock on!

Jade

Smooth, Green

Soothing, shining, inviting

Solid, hard, cold, rough

Remaining, idling, laying

Crude, Calm

Rock

A True Friend To The End

The radio is busted and the A/C don't work

It's a rusted out death trap

Spun her tires good

Bruised your knuckles and pride

To keep her alive

Let them talk and laugh, call her names behind your back

But they'll never know

She never steered you wrong

Tapped her dash for luck

Spoke a word of encouragement when her motor purred

You raced with pink slips and kept her every time

The friends that came and went

She remained true

Never judged nor condemned

Was always by his side

She always made sure he was safe and sound

No way you would trade her title for another

You'll keep her for a few more years

All the trouble and this stubborn mule

'Til death do you part

Take it for what it's worth

They asked you when you upgrading

And all the memories come flooded back

That's why you and that there old pile of bolts

Will be buried in a junkyard with a sign that will read

She was worth every cent that was ever spent

Oh, in the backseat you found love

While riding on fumes that 15 mile gap

And how your baby kept puttering about

Thought we both were headed for breakdown

Like Betty Lou, you know who, who broke your heart

And this baby took you far, cleared your mind and solidified your dreams

While star gazing on her hood

Water doesn't seep between every fingers—somewhere a thumb

Just staring at the pillars, and how tall they stood

It wasn't hard to imagine the vocals

like an inn next to a church

or a lung full of air, sin–contemporary

As crowds were bold or a deck full of cards,

I could only hear sighs after the card setter

an intelligent freedom to the meter of power

served, and well kept—stifling under the nose

and a chastity like the omen, had it not been for the stairs

where the mind fell on concussive forces and gazes lifted upward

where had I come with gifts,

My body could not serve as loyalty to the form

What more could I have asked for

I thought you would complete me,

yet here I am, searching for what you cannot give

Maybe if I loved myself more than I love you

That would be enough

"A dying heart and thinning blood" - please share your thoughts :)

The biggest hearts bleed the most.

She tries and tries to pump her life blood throughout the world,

but try as she might, the blood only pools and weighs her down,

until she can no longer walk and run and play.

She will eventually succumb to her very gift,

having given too much and lost too much,

she will drown in it.

She will try to swim to the surface but she is chained to the sea bed

She will try to scream and beg but her lungs are empty.

People may try to save her, to help her but the moment she thinks she's escaped, she will return to those familiar waters.

This cycle will continue until the day she's accepted her fate interwoven with countless lives,

even then she will never be able to fly weightlessly,

she will forever remain a broken shell of what she was.

Of Soles and Souls: When IHOP is a phrase that crickets, rather than restaurants, can’t use anymore.

Crickets aren't otters.
So when the tiny brown
wannabe grasshopper
started to spasm on the patio
and jerk that hind leg around
like a barroom breakdancer
I faced a moral dilemma:
should I don the hangman's hood?

As applied to the circumstances,
the answer was simple.
No.
Not while I was rocking a fresh
pair of Richmond red New Balances.
I mean, people literally stopped me
on the metro
and inquired about purchasing these bad boys
right off my feet!
As someone offered fashion praise
at a Haley's comet visibility rate
I wasn't inclined
to turn my shoes
into molcajete
and make cricket guacamole.

On another day,
if I was wearing my Crocs
—god bless them,
those polymer bad boys
could walk up Mount Vesuvius
on a bad day
and live to talk about it—
the answer may have been different

My morals hadn't changed.
My shoes did.
