Mitch was already a walking corpse for years. Reagan was in the throes of dementia as president. This wouldn't be new territory for the GOP.

> Reagan was in the throes of dementia as president

After Trump dies, we’ll find out that he was, too. It runs in families, and his father and sister both died of dementia.

He 100% has dementia. Not really even a question.

We'll never officially find out that he was. The Republican party still hasn't admitted Reagan had it.

Imagine if the Democratic party still denied FDR had polio.

I don't believe the party ever really denied that FDR had polio, it was a rather well known fact about him since he didn't contract it until he was 29 and already a rising figure.. He was just usually shown sitting or standing without walking so it wasn't so obvious He often appeared in public in a wheelchair. It was just much easier to conceal the extent of his paralysis than it would be with today's media.

A physical disability doesn't impair someone from acting as an effective President, that's why he was elected to 4 terms. It was hardly concealed, everybody at the time knew he was becoming immobile, but not cognitively impaired. Very unlike Presidents we've seen recently.

Exactly. However, when FDR was in office the press was completely different than today and would generally not attack a President over something like that. It was also before television so the only visuals a person would normally see were the newsreels shown when you went to the movies. But his affliction was well known, just not the severity.

Imagine that being the reason the sons won't have a medal of freedom threesome with him. "Dad, we can't. Because of your super-AIDS."
