While I really want the 75+ old congressmen to retire I get why people support them. People will often keep voting for the people they think are doing a good job of representing them regardless of if its true. They will often thing the problems are anyone but the person they supported.
Generally this is because people dont want to admit they were wrong.

I mean sure but the question really comes down to your average voter. If you are on reddit posting here you likely are not. You are likely more informed or at least want to be.
The vast majority of voter are not that.
I think you are making a mistake that I am making an opinion here when really I am commenting on how voters vote. For candidates who have been in office for a long time their often just vote for them if they align with their blue or red stance. Blame for things is usually not applied to the person in office because that means the voter likely voted poorly.
Things like AOC primarying a long term rep are fairly rare, at least on the left, sure it happens but theres a reason congress looks the way it does. The right primaries their people because they behave like a church and ultimately vote in the one who has the best dogma that the base loves.

Markey has been great for us. I’m not gonna vote for someone just because they are young.

The thing is these older politicians should be taking younger politicians under their wing to prepare them to replace them. They shouldn’t be holding on to their positions until death and then it becomes a scramble to replace them. None of them want to put in the work to ensure that those who replace them when they are gone will share their values and continue their work.

That’s a possibility as well, but they also run that risk when they are at such an advanced age and/or have sufficient health issues.

Moulton legitimately thought “yes I threw trans kids under the bus the first chance I could and I’m running in one of the most progressive states in the union, but the magical centrists will show up for me :)”

All this noise about Ed Markey not knowing technology is utter BS. Just look at his work on the Commerce committee challenging the FCC over net neutrality, e-rate bringing internet to libraries, and criticizing gender labeling on programming. Ed Markey is a key reason that porting your mobile phone number is now allowed. Seth can’t explain how the data is used on his mobile phone either… Markey’s answer reflected a deeper knowledge of the subject and the related uncertainties. I backed Moulton in his challenge to John Tierney, but Markey has proven through the years that he’s more concerned about representing us than himself and that’s why he’s getting my vote.

I would have preferred Markey retire, but he’s an absolute progressive and if it’s between him and a younger more right wing Dem there’s just no contest

Unlike a lot of our senate geezers, Ed Markey hasn’t really shown that he’s out of touch and actually has been one of the most progressive senators in the country for decades.
It’s not surprising that he’s still popular in Massachusetts, especially compared to a guy like Moulton.

Legit every environmental bill has Markey’s name on it. When it seems to have faded to the bac-burner because of the rising fascism. He will not allow it to fade.

This is such a strange race. Whatever rises out of the ashes of the establishment Dems needs to be a youth-led movement, but not at the expense of established progressive politics. Follow policies, not politicians.

I’m not a Markey fan- he’s progressive for sure but he isnt really driving forward any big change.
However, primarying him from the right in Massachusetts is a fools errand.

It generally helps to be able to spell the state you want to represent, yes. Markey keeps getting challenged by people who don't know the area, Joe Kennedy III kept complaining Markey didn't visit Dana, Enfield and Prescott, towns that have been under the Quabbin resoviour since the 40's.
