I know 2 women who served in the navy and neither are surprised. Angry yes, but not surprised. This sort of thing has been a long term issue in the military.
7
u/AfterSchoolOrdinary 8h ago edited 7h ago
My Grandfather was in the Navy, my mum was in the Army and National Guard for 25 years, my grandmother was high ranking in the Army and her husband was an officer in the Army.
They all dissuaded my sister and I from joining. We had to take the ASVAB in high school and when I did extremely well the recruiters were like vultures calling nonstop, sending endless mail- the works. My mum called them and made them stop. They weren’t listening to me say “no thanks”. I would have been a terrible recruit but my family was worried about my safety within the military. They all knew how bad things could be for women.
•
u/curtislow1 7h ago
Same here from my 25 years of active duty and 2 tours war -veteran dad. He talked about the “USDA stamp of approval” , and strongly discouraged my sister and I from joining. It is so sad nothing has changed really in the past 40 years for women in male-dominated fields.

u/phargmin Washington 4h ago
The already got rid of all the other trans people in the military without issue. These 29 are a special class that sued and a court said that they were the only ones that couldn’t be fired (yet).
Also note that thousands of trans people already discharged from the military were not given honorable discharges, which has huge implications for the rest of their lives.
24
u/ITookTrinkets Oregon 13h ago
Wait until you find out how many professional trans athletes there are, and how many trans children play sports.
15
u/Kitten_Sophie 12h ago
This has implications for the rest of the trans service members that haven’t been removed yet either as a class was granted and they’re working on the details of how to apply it currently if I remember correctly. SCOTUS already decided in May 2025 that the original injunction didn’t matter and they could go ahead and kick people out despite the irreparable harm and multiple courts finding that the service members were likely to succeed with their lawsuit on the merits. I saw the writing on the wall and “voluntarily” got out 75% of the way to retirement so I could control my own destiny. The people still in often have no clue when they’ll be separated until 30-60 days out and that’s just too fast to get everything lined up. They’re basically handling involuntary separations are cruelly as possible because of course they are.

5

u/stevez_86 Pennsylvania 10h ago
They are going to undo Federal Civil Rights. They want to save scum back to 1861 and pretend the Civil War isn't going to kick off this time so the Federal Government doesn't need to have a say except Confederacy gets to have an equally viable chance at being implemented in the States.
The Federal Courts didn't used to have to hear these kinds of cases. And they got to rule very differently before the Civil War. Just look at the Frederick Douglass decision.
The Roberts Court rules as if it was April 12th 1861 and the Civil War didn't happen to none of the laws after 1861 apply.
The bribe is that without Federal Civil Rights to rule on the Federal Courts will have a lot of their dockets cleared. The remaining time can be dedicated to the True Function of the Federal Courts. Interstate Business Commerce and Mergers. And that requires a lot of bribes to get the correct decision. So they are ruling in ways to create a situation where they are patrons of Business and you just have to give patronage to get the decision you want. They are ruling on these decisions to become autocratic legal oligarchs. Litigious Putins, each Federal Judge will be.

The US military is busy murdering civilians all over the world.
They don't "serve the country", they serve the interests of a tiny elite exploiting your own country, and exploiting the rest of the world, too.
The average American isn't "served" by murdering schoolchildren in Iran, by endless wars in Iraq, or Afghanistan, any more than they were "served" by using chemical weapons on the civilians in Vietnam.
This blind, slavish praise of the US Military as some sort of benevolent, honorably institution is something the US population is going to have to overcome if they're every going to escape the fascist hellhole into which their country is rapidly devolving.

When will Republicans see that harassing Transgender people is the most unimportant and shameful ‘hill to die on’.
Meanwhile, inflation is out of control, gas prices keep rising, National debt tops $40 Trillion, our Allies are under attack, the average American has been taxed to death with tariffs, we are running out of missiles, and the bond market is shuddering, Medicare and Social Security are being threatened, tainted beef is being imported and safety checks removed from our food, blue states are being punished, the press has been gutted and lost its freedom and acts like a mouth piece for a dictator, Mitch McConnell has been absent, and the Bailey’s told Chuck Schumer to go soft on opposition, and if anyone talks about what’s really going on they get gaslit and told they have TDS.
America was not made great again, it’s the opposite, we are a failed nation.

There was an askpolitics post that was particularly eye opening to me. Somebody asked „what is the policy of the left that you disagree with the most on“or domething to that effect and several of the top answers were „focusing too much on gender issues“
You point it out to them that the only people focused this much on trans people are the right and they answer with „yeah well the right makes people THINK the left focuses too much on trans issues so thsts the lefts fault“.
Insane. Some people genuinely think that abandoning trans people is the only way forward, and thar we‘re an „acceptable casualty“ and that our rights genuinely do not matter.
It makes my skin crawl. If the left abandons us like centrists want then America will be just as bad as the UK.

What bothers me here is that these are people who are already serving, and the argument isnt really about whether they can do the job.
If someone is qualified, meeting the requirements and doing their job, removing them based on being transgender seems like a pretty weak argument when the justification is supposed to be military readiness.
And asking the Supreme Court to allow the dismissals before the underlying case is even decided makes it even more concerning. Let the legal process actually play out before making something this serious irreversible.

“As the Trump administration’s own attorneys admitted, these are qualified individuals who are meeting all military standards," said Jennifer Levi, an attorney representing the transgender service members with the LGBTQ legal advocacy group GLAD Law. "There is no reason to waste millions of taxpayer dollars to kick out thousands of highly trained, skilled and decorated troops based on nothing but hostility and this administration’s political whims."”

Cannot be stressed enough what a small percentage trans people represent in each of the fields where they are being targeted. Or even just the general population, for that matter.

29 people? All this McCarthyism hysteria over fucking 29 military service members. Meanwhile, we are critically low on type 3 missiles and are leaving generational mark on America's military power. You can't make this shit up

Why is gender an issue in military? They have both men and women, why does it matter if you’re a trans?

I can only assume this is an emergency and the safety of the American people will be compromised if these people 29 people continue serving in the military?

Why would anyone want to serve in this military? Fighting for a loser of a country. Fucking weird.

They can't just fire them if they've done nothing to warrant the firing, they can't fire them on the grounds of being trans- this would be a massive breach in employment protections across the country. If SCOTUS go through with this it would be a huge blow to worker's rights.

It's amazing that this type of needless and blind hate is becoming so mainstream
And somehow they will blame Obama for the division of this country.

OUT. F&^KING. RAGEOUS!!!
Petty, vindictive, spiteful, ignorant, hateful, and totally unjustified!!!
The deliberate targeting 29 out of c.1.35 MILLION active military personnel - 29 people who are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for their country - purely to satiate the bigotry\hate of this fascist regime, is beyond words.
F&^k THEM!!!

They are prepared to put themselves in harms way to protect others. Yet I believe trump had some benign medical condition that prevented him from serving? Note I’m an Australian. Albeit a tired one who just wants civility to be back on the menu

These are people that volunteered in service and duty for their country. These absolute total shit stains who tout patriotic idealism don’t care about anything but themselves. The call for service is answered by a brave few and they want to punish some for fucking what?

~Matthew 19:12 - "For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it."
Someone who goes through bottom surgery is by every definition a eunuch. What were the last words Jesus says? "Let them." This culture war nonsense isn't in the character of the God they pretend to worship. The only fruit they have to share is their hatred, persecuting others instead of loving them like they were commanded.

From what I understand this ruling would give the president the power to dismiss anyone he wants from the military - maybe not all at once but if the president can remove all transgender people from the military why not gay people and those who ever voted for democrats too? They frequently start with transgender people in their laws and firings but it immediately includes everyone else they dislike too.
Next he will demand the power to hire anyone he wants to the military and it will then be his new personal army.

And they’ll do it based on the logic that he’ll suffer harm if he can’t do it and ignore the lives he’s destroyed and will destroy by carrying this out.

Are they qualified physically? Do they have the know how to do the job? If so, isn’t this simply discrimination?
