In Texas, literally every Republican politician, for the primaries and now for the general election, brings it up in their campaign ads. It’s fucking exhausting.

They managed to replace the tried and true racism of fearing immigrants and minorities with a people group so ridiculously small in population that most of his voting base has never even actually seen one irl (that they know of).

Which is why it's baffling that people (even some democratic leaning voters) keep falling for these culture war debates around this. It's so obviously the same playbook. Demonize insert marginalized group to distract from the fact their policy platform is non-existent, deeply unpopular or whatever their corporate donors pay them to say that cycle 🫩.
