No Paywall Donald Trump says transgender people will "end" if GOP keeps Congress in midterms

Wild how this is the message that resonates with conservatives. It is more important to them that the government makes victims out of less than 1% of the population than that the government does things to benefit them.
Conservatives are far more motivated by dislike of other than love even for themselves.
•
u/BrooklynSmash 4h ago
Conservatism is just making things worse for everyone, as long as the group you hate gets it worse.
•
u/twoducksinatub 3h ago
I mean literally the word conservatism means to conserve what you have and to resist progress. Progress being civils rights movement, womans suffrage, etc...
•
u/JMurdock77 3h ago
Notice how smoothly repealing the 19th amendment entered the mainstream of their discourse with people like Joel Webbon taking the stage? The Overton window has shifted so far right I have no idea how our society is supposed to keep functioning like this.

Pretty sure we've got front row seats to the decline and collapse of America happening all around us.
•
u/proteannomore 2h ago
Yep, and I can’t say I saw it coming, but it made the idea of being childless a lot more appealing. I can’t imagine trying to guide a child into life with this insanity.

u/TripleJess 2h ago
I saw the collapse coming, I did not see the hatred towards trans people being so central to it all, or that I would be one of those hated.. but here we are.
•
u/bottlebabycatfeeder 1h ago
Well, not all of us are insane. And i hope all us non insane people protect you when it comes down to it .
•
u/TripleJess 1h ago
Thank you. I truly appreciate that sentiment.
But.. it has already come down to it. It's happening, as we speak. Violence and murder against trans people is high right now, justice for us is nonexistent most of the time. Being victimized can land us in jails that institutionalize our rape, torture, and murder. Hundreds of laws are pushed every year to strip away our rights and criminalize our very existence. Hospitals are preemptively refusing us care out of fear of what -might- happen to them if they give us medical care.
We're already dying.

It was a pretty big topic during Hitler’s rise as well. It tends to be a convenient group to target for hatred to grow.
For those not aware, the early Nazis framed gender nonconformity and homosexuality as "sexual Bolshevism" and a plot by the Jews to destroy traditional family values, lower white birth rates, and cause whites to be replaced.
You know, the same stuff many prominent figures in the US government now espouse
•
u/TripleJess 1h ago
Yeah, the German Institute of Sexology was one of the first places burned, and they were the leading group for transgender care and research. History loves to repeat itself.

Well they do think we’re pedophiles and that we’re trying to corrupt children even though so many headlines keep popping up about GOP being caught raping kids/having CSAM. I “knew” I was a different gender since I was a child and had no concept of any of that, I was doing what felt right. My republican family persistently abused and sexually harassed me for it as well as attempted to groom me via conversion therapy. None of that was trans folk. I have relatives and in-laws who were aghast that our kids are in public schools, cause that’s “where the teachers can literally make them transgender.” They’d prefer the kids go to Catholic school, where they’d be “safer.”
Both of the Catholic schools I attended as a kid have had to settle lawsuits. I don’t even need to say what for.
•
u/SmurfStig Ohio 3h ago
My wife works in public schools. One day her and her mom were talking about an upcoming vacation we had planned and her mom said “must be nice to afford that”. Without skipping a beat, my wife said we were able to pay for it due to the bonus she got for helping kids get trans surgery during their recess. Her mom (deep dumb maga) thought she was being honest.
Also, I was threatened with Catholic school because my parents thought I was being “rebellious”. They were confused why I was excited by the idea but changed their minds when I told them how easy the girls were. They asked around and found out the kids at the local Catholic school were always in trouble but rich enough to get away with it. Plus we would have never been able to afford it since we weren’t Catholic.

The Nazis also eventually turned on the “loyal” people that supported them to retain and increase their power. Towards the end of the war the Nazis decided to burn everything down literally to punish the civilian population for failing the leadership.
Hate talk such as Trump is doing here is about increasing his power and never about making lives better. He will eventually, as the Nazis did, have to find another group of people to eliminate to keep his power grift going and repeat this until even loyalists are appalled or eliminated. By then though it will be too late to do anything about it. This is a reason why your VOTE matters so much now.

I think the trust in the system is absolutely broken. Yes. I think allowing it to run based on the premise that every acting party involved will act on good faith in accordance with the rules that we have established, yeah that's pretty much broken too.
I think that what we need at this point is a much needed restructuring and modernization to the rules and regulations within our Constitution. It's not a holy text, nor is it merely a set of guidelines. It's a document that's meant to be updated to the times. We need to look at the articles more closely, discuss how to establish a better balance of power with far more robust checks in place and a means in which politicization can't just steamroll through it. We also need to examine the relevancy of the Electoral College, making it so that Presidents can't be decided via a few swing states; rather, they split the EC votes based on districts or percentage of the state's popular vote, or simply remove it altogether and go nationally popular.
I don't think we've reached our last chance yet, but we can't just go on after this like nothing happened, and instill the same trust in the system like before, acting as if another bad player can't just roll in and do the same things.

If the midterms fail, the resistance won't begin until measurable, tangible effects start taking place to those on the Right.
A good chunk of blue voters are willing to take the blows until the next election cycle, thinking that voting is their one and only power, and that using that power will change things. I remember listening last autumn and winter to those saying "we will vote Republicans out and end all this" as if sitting back and letting another 9-12 months of Trump continuing to wreak everything is acceptable (all the while he was talking about nationalizing elections and calling for potentially the Insurrection Act at that time). The common democrat voter will still happily stand on the sidewalk for another "record-breaking protest" that ends at 11am and they can go on about their Saturday, but they aren't going to get to George Floyd levels of protest on their own or not without SERIOUS reason to do so.
The Right are still looking at it as if it is a football game and that their team is winning. Until they actually start losing things, they'll happily be the front line of defense to any sort of significant pushback by the population. They need to be a part of it just as much as the Left.

The stupidest person I’ve ever had to work with went on a rant once about how her son could go to the doctors and get his genitals removed. The rest of us asked her how a GP would manage complex surgery during a 15 minute appointment. She couldn’t answer, but pretty sure she still believed the lie.
•
u/NDHardage 2h ago
So - I've had that surgery. As an adult, in her 30s, with money and full autonomy, who really really wanted it to happen, and it still took years to get to the point where it could actually be done. I say that because: since I know firsthand that it's something that cannot medically be rushed, so the idea that they're just performing it all willy nilly to minors is especially ludicrous to me.
And don't even get me started on how much my mom in her 70s was opposed to it, to the point where while I was on the phone with her she said, "I brought you into this world, and I can take you out of it." To which the only possible response I could give was, "No, you can't."

Imagine being outmanned by a guy born without a dick. Their fragile masculinity can’t handle it so they ignore us, lmao.

As a general rule, MAGAts are so insecure and terrified of everything that they can't accept that other people are able to just be themselves without a personal identity crisis.
So instead of working on themselves and trying to improve they seek to make everyone else as miserable and terrified as they are.

It's less that he's delusional and more that he's being told what he wants to hear from his handlers and his news sources. He's being told, constantly, about how he's the greatest president in history, how the country is so much better because of him, how the world respects and fears him. It's all BS but it's what he wants to hear so it's what they all tell him.
It's why he freaks out so much every time Fox News posts a poll that doesn't agree with the narrative his babysitters are feeding to him. Why he threatens to sue any reporter that doesn't echo the talking points. Why he refuses to answer questions that aren't carefully balanced on a t-ball stand to allow him to knock the answer out of the park.
If it's all he hears and it's all he wants to hear, having that worldview challenged feels like betrayal and lies. He's happy in his echo chamber and lashes out any time a sound he doesn't like manages to sneak in.
For him it isn't a delusion, it's the reality that has been constructed around him by those who want to keep him fat and happy.

Like seriously… imagine caring about shit that doesn’t have absolutely any impact on your life whatsoever. Right? Like who cares. I’m willing to fight behind that alone, because why the fuck does anyone care that much?! You know what I mean? It goes beyond that, of course, but if i had to strip it all the way down it boils down to minding one’s business.

The funny thing about trans people is that the chance of coming across one is gonna be pretty rare, and rarer still if you’re out in the rural areas of this country. And of all the people who are deathly afraid of trans people, they will never meet one in real life. This is such a dumb non-issue issue if there ever was one.
From what I understand, trans people are not interested in committing rape and pedophilia. They just want to live their life as how they think their body should have been from birth.

The dumb part about this is that it's not like trans people won't exist. Whether you agree with trans people or not, they are going to believe what they believe. You may as well just let them live their own life. The things that Republicans care about that don't affect them at all is borderline insane. They are obsessed with crap that doesn't matter for the sake of making up fake grievances.

Which is why it's baffling that people (even some democratic leaning voters) keep falling for these culture war debates around this. It's so obviously the same playbook. Demonize insert marginalized group to distract from the fact their policy platform is non-existent, deeply unpopular or whatever their corporate donors pay them to say that cycle .

u/raw_copium 4h ago
And the talking heads will debate it. "He's just joking, he's never serious!". His supporters will quietly ignore it. His critics will be ignored. The "news" will find point and counterpoint because "each side needs to be heard".
But let us be clear: the President of the United States of America just openly proposed a genocide based on gender identity.
And you think they'll be selective? What if you're just a bit androgynous. Or a woman who lifts weights and has some muscle. Or just prefers the look of their head shaved. Or just a skinny guy that likes dance. Anyone who isn't an arrow straight, Cis presenting (mostly white) person, will 100% be fair game. There are a disturbing number of people in the US that absolutely want it to be "open season on the gays (anyone who isn't like ME)". People are not taking this seriously enough.

Look at ICE arresting anyone with brown skin for all the evidence you need that this will escalate WAY beyond "just" trans people - which, to be clear, is unfathomably fucked up all on its own(!!).
This is the second stanza of the "first they came for" poem.

Exactly this. They want a white Christo-fascist ethno state. People balk when I say that, but if there were no cameras and truly no accountability, they would be doing this en masse already. Just disappearing anyone they don't like. I grew up under Robert Mugabe. I've seen this happen.
