I want to be wrong but I feel 2024 was our last chance. I still plan on voting for as long as it’s allowed, I just hope the MAGAt regime hasn’t broken things so much that it’s too late

u/TheItchyWalrus 6h ago edited 6h ago

Whoever the next president is will have to contend with fixing all that was broke and likely won’t be able to effectively do anything they set out or campaign on. Then we as voters will likely hold them accountable for not righting this ship in one term. Whoever that next president is, I do not envy their position. We’re fucked.

u/Ralphwiggum911 6h ago

Whoever the next 5 presidents are. This isn't a 4-8 year fix unfortunately. Trump and his enablers have systematically destroyed stuff thats been built over decades during times when congress actually wanted to work together and help america. We won't ever see a functional congress again in our lifetimes, and even if we did get a massive swing towards democrats, the american people will only allow so much change before the other side starts screaming louder that the country is going to get worse and the idiots start listening to that again.

u/dreamsofaninsomniac 4h ago

Also need to fix the Supreme Court. The next Dem president pretty much has to pack the court to restore any sort of check/balance system again. The judiciary has become too compromised.

u/Weak_Hospital_7854 2h ago

And in order to do all of that your country needs to invest in education and to force parents to get their children into an actual school.

That will not happen though.

The USA is fucked by design and calls it freedom.

u/10poundballs 2h ago

If dems ever regain power. Regulate social media and media to fumigate this toxic wasteland, end citizens united, invest heavily in education and mental healthcare, universal healthcare. First five bullet points on program 2030.

u/keelhaulrose 2h ago

In reality the next president will work on fixing it for 4-8 years, not be absolutely perfect, and America will vote in another conservative because they weren't perfect.

u/krbzkrbzkrbz 45m ago

It could be done in less than 4 years.

It would just require a kind of swift brutality against the treasonous enslaver class that has never been witnessed historically.

It's certainly wouldn't be legal either, but Trump (and the Confederacy et al.) have already revealed the courts to be impotent and slow in many ways.

u/gotridofsubs 31m ago

Theyll be fast for Democrats, don't worry

could be done in less than 4 years. It would just require a kind of swift brutality against the treasonous enslaver class that has never been witnessed historically

So it cant be done in 4 years then

u/Ralph_Finesse Wisconsin 6h ago

If I were president I would leave the monuments and buildings broke and blame blame blame Trump and the Republicans. Americans need to feel a bit of pain and finally internalize that it's the GOP's fault, always has been.

Give me single-payer healthcare, leave the White House a crater and put a big sign up reminding us all who demolished it.

u/SaggyToastR 6h ago

You think those with a memory of a goldfish (those on the Right and those thinking that being in the middle means they foresaw and were smarter than everyone else) are going to care or remember? They'll see the 4 years and blame the current president.

u/Fadedcamo 5h ago edited 5h ago

The day a dem president is elected is the day fox news starts running 24 7 about how shit the economy is and how bad the debt and inflation are.

u/mattgen88 New York 5h ago

And start saying the migrant caravans are coming to take the jobs the Republicans have shown no interest in doing

u/rtopps43 4h ago

Don’t forget gas prices! Idiots will be screaming about those on day 1 of the next administration

u/MoS29 Kentucky 2h ago

Literally the day they're elected. Not even in office for another 3 months, they'll blame a blip on the stock market as a response to the election and that everyone should be screaming in fear. Cause that's all they got. Made up fear.

then use the FCC chair to pull their fucking license, its time to fight fire with fire, weaponize the agencies back at them. Lets fucking go, vote.

u/01001010_01000010 2h ago

Hold every press conference in front of the trump memorial crater that was the east wing.

u/HillbillyMan 16m ago

At the same time, the right is still blaming Biden for stuff that Trump is doing now

u/LifeguardDry7372 5h ago

This is exactly what should be done, but it won't be because dems are soft and weak.

u/Zeyode 2h ago

Here's the problem: you're asking that of Democrats. People who literally were on the other end of a coup attempt and allowed the guy who tried to coup them to run for president. The only way Republicans are getting any blame is if the DSA takes the reigns of the party aparatus, which will also take time.

u/Ralph_Finesse Wisconsin 1h ago

If they can't find a way to deflect blame and pin it on Republicans we will be right back here in 4 years. Everyone involved in the coup attempt, especially Trump, should have been imprisoned but he got off and here we are.

u/Astrotoad21 1h ago

This is the spite that brought you guys here. It would only lead to more polarization and a new trump coming to power because of it. Be the better person.

u/Ralph_Finesse Wisconsin 34m ago

Going high when they go low has only encouraged them to sink deeper. There is no limit to the depths these people are willing to go. It is time for punishment.

u/Inevitable-Dig8702 6h ago

Need a UnFuck meter that starts at 100% and use all media that is still viable to over communicate daily updates of how we are making a path to 0. People need to get used to looking up when the policy that fucked them gets fixed. That allows a Dem president to a) show how much fuckery has transpired b) in what order are we going to ruthlessly unfuck them c) what’s this weeks progress in their unfucket list.

u/Cyberslasher 4h ago

use all media that is still viable

Which one is that?

As soon as a Democrat president exists, Kevin O'Leary is going to be on every slot talking about how democrats murdered the economy and the middle class and that's why you can't have livable wages or vacation days anymore.

u/Hangry_Squirrel Europe 5h ago

I love this idea. It should also make it obvious that progressing on the UnFuck meter is what takes time away from making new good things happen.

u/postmodest 6h ago

The GOP will continue fractionally distilling its evil every 4-8 years of Democrat presidencies until America finally succumbs to their jackbooted nazism.

Bush v. Gore was the biopsy that proved we had terminal far-right conservatism.

u/thegoodnamesrgone123 5h ago

Biden inherited a house on fire and people were furious because he only put out the fire and didn't rebuild the house bigger and better in the way they wanted

u/SoupOfThe90z Arizona 5h ago

I can see if a democratic leader does win. All conservatives will start to shut on them day one. Maybe there should be a YouTube video made before so that we can turn and look back at said video.

u/Dry-Crazy-7638 5h ago

Our government as we know it is fucked. There is no way our current balance of powers can continue without authoritarianism. We need to elect someone who will TRULY restore checks and balances and that will mean making a LOT of decisions and constitutional changes to ensure this consolidation of power will never happen again. 1776 America as we know it is finished.

u/theshadowiscast 4h ago

A president cannot make constitutional changes (fortunately), and checks and balances are enforced by the majority party (voters gave Republicans the majority in all three branches of government) and do not exist as an independent entity that can enforce itself. The voters are the final check and balance, and look at how the 2024 election went.

u/Meior Europe 5h ago

The campaign is to fix things.

u/c0horst 1h ago

They could literally just run on a platform of, "undo everything trump has done and nothing else" and they'd have my vote.

u/Kindle282 Georgia 3h ago

It's literally what happened with Biden. America bounced back from Covid faster and better than anyone with expertise on economics thought we would, but Republicans spun it as a colossal failure and it worked. They'll do the same if we get a dem President in 28. Suddenly Conservatives will become fiscally concerned once more and the same outrage punditry will pump the same poison.

I just hope a dem majority after the midterms can start that process ahead of time. Maybe right some of this nonsense so we can get the ball rolling fast. A supermajority in 28 would go a long way, but I'm not holding my breath.

u/Appropriate-Bid8671 6h ago

donald trump is this country's last president. it doesn't matter how the midterms turn out.

u/RespectTheAmish 6h ago

If Trump was 65 and not 80… I’d agree with you.

The country will survive trump, the question is more about the quality of life for average American post Trump, once this administration has destroyed our place in the world/relinquished American dominance.

u/EducationalRock167 6h ago

The Republicans are planning to take over.

u/BodManFeg 4h ago

lmao what a dumbass mindset. You doomers always make me laugh.

u/Straight-Average-394 5h ago

It's perfectly possibly for the next president to turn things around and make big changes for the better. Unfortunately our only choices are old establishment dems that probably vote for Trump in private.

u/pchs26 5h ago

That is if we are lucky enough to still be able to have a legit election - who knows they may have screwed things up so bad they will let power go one more time to confuse people and move to "elections" But I doubt it - the Democrats are more likely to overanalyze something then the GOP who will just keep barging straight ahead, which is with this stuff often the right strategy to get their way

u/Maybe_Charlotte Connecticut 5h ago

It's a pretty big assumption that the next president will even want to fix anything. Biden for example was largely characterized by an attempt to return to business as usual. His admin did right the ship on the stuff that was fairly uncontentious, but did not push for major reforms that were clearly needed in the wake of Trump 1. Now we're in a vastly bigger mess and much more substantial reform is needed.

It's like, Trump 1 was a bad tenant who infested the house with termites and mold, and smeared shit on the walls. Biden cleaned up the shit and repainted, but didn't address the termites or mold. Now Trump 2 has additionally torn out and sold the copper wiring and pipes, and set the roof on fire. We need someone who isn't afraid to rebuild instead of just patching up and trying to limp along.

u/FormerTesseractPilot 4h ago edited 4h ago

It's not only the fixing, they'll be dealing with all the jerks being vocally upset about said fixes. Media would be shitting all over any reversals of policy or agency ramp-ups. The worst part about it, this administration has shown the world that the USA isn't a reliable partner in anything. The continuity of agencies and to some degree certain policies has been thrown out the window. Things written in pencil, indeed. It's embarrassing.

u/stupidugly1889 3h ago

Cop out.

If someone like trump can break the law and just get away with the most horrible things, someone can come in and do the same for good.

It looks like a president that doesn’t ask for permission to do things like close gitmo or end ice.

It’s the only way we get out of this

u/bkgn 2h ago

Like Russians have held Putin accountable for 25 years? Yeah fucking right.

u/Ossius 2h ago

We got the ACA passed in only 70 days of having a super majority, and we would have had a non profit government ran health insurance but it was blocked by an idiot democrat who turned traitor (fuck you Lieberman!). That was 17 years ago and we haven't had that kind of power since.

If midterms + 2028 gives us a super majority for 2 years imagine what could happen. Don't get divided, don't get distracted, don't get caught up in your own pet issue, and we can undo ALL the damage AND get meaningful progressive policies passed.

u/gaeric 1h ago

The silver lining is that Trump did a ton of things the wrong way, and what can be done by EO will be undoable by EO. What was done wrong by cabinet members and agency heads can be undone by new cabinet members and agency heads.

The real struggle of holding power isn't actually righting the economy or undoing a dangerous trajectory - it's tangibles. Using Medicare for All as an example, that's something that helps the majority of Americans as soon as it takes effect. You can deny the effects all you want on Fox News, but when people aren't paying insurance premiums or find themselves suddenly covered, there's no denying where it came from.

u/Astrotoad21 1h ago

They just got to sell that narrative really well. Fixing a broken country takes time, and every step in the right direction is a victory worth celebrating.

u/kent_eh Canada 55m ago

Whoever the next president is will have to contend with fixing all that was broke and likely won’t be able to effectively do anything they set out or campaign on.

Agreed. Trump and his cronies have broken so much that any reasonable next president will have to spend their entire mandate fixing things. And so will the following president.

Hopefully those future leaders (and the voting public) have the inclination to actually do that hard work.

u/StevenMC19 Florida 6h ago

I think the trust in the system is absolutely broken. Yes. I think allowing it to run based on the premise that every acting party involved will act on good faith in accordance with the rules that we have established, yeah that's pretty much broken too.

I think that what we need at this point is a much needed restructuring and modernization to the rules and regulations within our Constitution. It's not a holy text, nor is it merely a set of guidelines. It's a document that's meant to be updated to the times. We need to look at the articles more closely, discuss how to establish a better balance of power with far more robust checks in place and a means in which politicization can't just steamroll through it. We also need to examine the relevancy of the Electoral College, making it so that Presidents can't be decided via a few swing states; rather, they split the EC votes based on districts or percentage of the state's popular vote, or simply remove it altogether and go nationally popular.

I don't think we've reached our last chance yet, but we can't just go on after this like nothing happened, and instill the same trust in the system like before, acting as if another bad player can't just roll in and do the same things.

u/RockAtlasCanus 6h ago

You’re not wrong. I have a lot of fear and zero trust around a new constitutional convention happening today with currently elected legislators both at state and federal levels. Rewinding the clock 10 years in terms of politics & discourse sounds about the best possible scenario. Letting the entire constitution be overhauled with maga congressional representatives involved in the process just sounds like a way to make things far, far worse.

u/Kurobei Georgia 3h ago

Considering the current Dem party and the state of politics, I wouldn't be surprised if a new constitution ended up with amendments declaring our support of Israel and an entire section about Hasan Piker.

u/pchs26 5h ago

I think it is our last stand to hopefully have a sliver of a chance at a last stand. I don't see a lot of hope that they will fail if they go for the ultimate grab now though.

u/pattyG80 6h ago

In a way you are right. 2024 has emboldened a deeply stupid but violent segment of the population that anything goes. The insurgency went unpunished. The President got to sue himself for 10 billion dollars because he is a tax cheat.

If they lose the midterms, there will be a wave of violence and the President, as he nears his own end just wants to see everything around him burn

u/Punch_A_Police_Horse 5h ago

That is true, not enough people are talking about what's going to happen when Trump enacts his revenge on America.

u/Perram 6h ago

I'm with you on this - but no one is going to rally to resist this until the midterms fail.

u/StevenMC19 Florida 6h ago

If the midterms fail, the resistance won't begin until measurable, tangible effects start taking place to those on the Right.

  1. A good chunk of blue voters are willing to take the blows until the next election cycle, thinking that voting is their one and only power, and that using that power will change things. I remember listening last autumn and winter to those saying "we will vote Republicans out and end all this" as if sitting back and letting another 9-12 months of Trump continuing to wreak everything is acceptable (all the while he was talking about nationalizing elections and calling for potentially the Insurrection Act at that time). The common democrat voter will still happily stand on the sidewalk for another "record-breaking protest" that ends at 11am and they can go on about their Saturday, but they aren't going to get to George Floyd levels of protest on their own or not without SERIOUS reason to do so.

  2. The Right are still looking at it as if it is a football game and that their team is winning. Until they actually start losing things, they'll happily be the front line of defense to any sort of significant pushback by the population. They need to be a part of it just as much as the Left.

u/filtersweep 6h ago

This is turning into more of a war- and the red is starting to realize they are taking on huge casualties— and are not sure if they really are winning the war— or what they are even fighting for.

u/robocoplawyer 6h ago

That's because it is a war. It's confusing because media is framing it as a "right vs left" war to distract us from the class warfare perpetuated by the billionaire Epstein class. It's a class war, and the billionaires are winning.

u/YeOldeBootheel 3h ago

Ain’t no war but the class war.

u/Question_It_All_3000 6h ago

Are they? I have not seen any indication they have lost anything other than us all having a shitty economy.

u/filtersweep 2h ago

When people like Tucker Carlson and MTG turn on him?

u/bogglingsnog 2m ago

a shitty economy totally caused by Biden, right? /s

u/SaggyToastR 6h ago

Hope you're right. Everything seems contraindicative of this to me.

u/shizen22 6h ago

The problem is that the left voters keep thinking that common sense will prevail while the right voters are in perpetual denial of reality. There's plenty of disconnect on both sides that needs fixing.

u/notassigned2023 6h ago

This is completely lacking in solutions. Voting is your big tool, so use it. Yapping about revolution is dorm room drunk talk.

u/pyuunpls Delaware 6h ago

I feel like people (younger people especially) would rather have something to protest than actually do their civic duty to avoid the issues that need protesting.

u/naegele 6h ago

People dont want to deal with politics until it invades their lives.

Once politics does invade your life, often your only recourse is protesting.

u/YellojD 6h ago

I’ve said to a few people that most don’t get into politics just on some whim. They get involved because something is happening that fundamentally affects their lives or lives of people they know and love.

Voting is like the one thing we have control over when it comes to a harm reduction point of view. I wish more people understood this.

u/naegele 6h ago

I agree. Just because my moment was decades ago doesn't mean im different.

u/bschott007 North Dakota 6h ago

And when the people at the top dont care about people protesting, then protesting loses its effectiveness. Especially when the news media stops reporting on the protests and the protestors only protest for a couple hours and go home.

u/mgman640 6h ago

Nonviolent protests and violent resistance go hand in hand. Martin Luther King, Jr. would never have succeeded without Malcolm X as the threat behind him.

u/MHath 4h ago

There’s a reason MLL Jr is always talked up and Malcolm X is always taught as being a bad guy.

u/Calm_Expression_9542 5h ago

Everyone who wants to be heard should vote.
You can legally get time off work to vote and you can vote early at the polls if not by mail. No excuses. Vote Blue down the whole ballot for change.

u/happyherbivore 6h ago edited 6h ago

But the fun part is that there's plenty to protest, even if the Dems get all 3 branches there's still no representation for the left.

Edit: and in any case it's not like there's much happening in the way of protest anyways, maybe the term you're looking for is complain.

u/sweetdick 6h ago

This is the real issue.

u/notassigned2023 6h ago

there's still no representation for the left.

This is a popular but misguided sentiment. Dems do Dem things when they get the numbers. They just haven't had the numbers since Obamacare.

u/aimgorge 5h ago

You can do both?

u/Question_It_All_3000 6h ago

A lot of them don’t feel represented by either party though. If both sides are going to fuck you over, do they really care who does it?

u/baconmethod California 5h ago

the dems got my girlfriend's student loans forgiven, and got me my medicine. the republicans made it so my loans werent forgiven, and they're going to take away my medicine.

u/strangelyliteral 2h ago

I don’t even think the midterms failing would do it. It won’t be before 2028 when the general public realizes Trump isn’t leaving the White House.

u/PapaSteel Foreign 2h ago

The midterms will see conservatives win 'legally' and the resistance that rallies against the obvious fraud won't be big or objective-focused enough to matter.

u/Acceptable-Row-4646 6h ago

It will take years to reverse the fuckery and decades to restore respect on the world stage

u/blzrlzr 59m ago

The world stage is not the concern right now. It’s like chasing a relationship. You gotta work on yourself first.

u/BrushStorm 6h ago

Vote in person. They have made mail in ballots unsafe

u/ToughOnions 6h ago

My entire state is mail-in voting. There are no voting locations to go to.

u/GryphonCough 4h ago

Drop boxes. Use them. Don’t use USPS. Physically return your ballot to one of these locations so the postal service doesn’t intentionally lose your ballots.

u/pchs26 2h ago

The part you are mssing is the delivery service . ALL states even with in person voting should ensure people have available in home.

u/New_Red_dit_sucks 4h ago

The state can set up drop-boxes all over the place. People can take their mail-in ballot and bypass the USPS completely. Does your state have a contingency plan like this or do this anyway? If not, please press them, call the media and get everyone to press them to set up drop boxes.

u/Fat_Lenny 3h ago

Y'allqueda likes to intimidate people at ballot drops with rifles and gravy seal bullshit.

We need some anti-yallqueda (anti-yallQ?) in some places, I think.

u/BrushStorm 6h ago

Shit.

u/ofWildPlaces 6h ago

Not every state has that available.

u/BrushStorm 6h ago

Trump will suppress your vote

u/pchs26 5h ago

You do know they are trying to funnel us to the polls en masse for a reason? And then there will be no other option when that is corrupted. How about we have the states with the mailing issues use their national guard to deliver ballots or come up with another delivery method instead of capitulating to the exact goal set by the gop which is to force everyone to the polls?

u/New_Red_dit_sucks 4h ago

No. They can set up drop boxes all over every country so that people can hand-deliver their mail-in ballots.

u/pchs26 4h ago

ok again the ballots have to be delivered to the people first. That is why an alternate delivery method should be the focus. Not capitulating to do what the GOP is focused on getting us to do.

u/BrushStorm 5h ago

because the states are cowards. Trump will sue and say they are doing the usps job.

u/ofWildPlaces 5h ago

What are you talking about? Who is being a coward?

u/BrushStorm 5h ago

Every single governor in this country

u/pchs26 5h ago

So in response you are suggesting we totally capitulate and vote only per the prescribed method the GOP is trying to funnel everyone to en masse, for the next steps? How about advocating our states provide another delivery method so that when the GOP messes with the polls we have other options already in the works?

u/pchlster Europe 1h ago

In-person, they'll merely place some ICE agents to determine if you look like a citizen or someone to be thrown in the camps.

u/MephistoHamProducts 6h ago

2020 was the last chance. The fact that none of Trump's cabal or Trump was really held accountable by the Biden DOJ is when the Epstein Class realized they were untouchable because America was divided between, the fascists, the people who don't care about the fascists because they don't feel their life would be worse under fascism and the people who are unwilling to crush the fascists, because that "would look political".

u/kanokari 6h ago

Biden was a moron and naive

u/FifteenthPen California 2h ago

Technically he did do a lot of good, but what he did amounts to fixing the air conditioner on the train while it continues to barrel towards the edge of a cliff.

u/ishippedmybed 6h ago

There are tools most Americans own that can remove the problems in a broken system.

u/Warkupo 6h ago

It's important to have hope. Without hope we have truly lost.

Of course, there's always the chainsaw.

u/Question_It_All_3000 6h ago

After the report about the USPS today, I’m pretty sure we’re too far gone. Anyone in power rests on “that’s illegal so they can’t do it” and does nothing to actually stop it. Then it happens and they’re left wondering how.

Throwing out 400 ballots because of one bad one and doing it only in what I imagine will be city centers pretty much dooms our elections.

u/ofWildPlaces 6h ago

Do more than vote.

Campaign for your candidate. Canvass for them. Encourage others to vote. Drive neighbors to the polls, Donate to a campaign.

It's on US to succeed or fail.

u/MC_White_Thunder Canada 5h ago

2024 was your last chance to maintain any semblance of the previous world order. That's permanently changed and shifting away from America.

2026 is your last chance to survive as a country.

u/Polar_Ted Oregon 6h ago

I don't think we had a chance in 2024. The fix was in.

u/butwhyisitso 6h ago

It was the last chance for a lot of things, not everything. A lot of people have lost their future or even normalcy. We are burning, our public resources are being stolen and sold off, poison is allowed in the last of our water, war is beginning with our former allies. 2024 was the last chance for America to remain a great country. Now we are a slumlords toy chest.

u/okram2k America 6h ago

to be honest 2016 was our last chance. We handed the Supreme Court to the conservatives for generations with that election. From there everything has been one party can do whatever they want and the other party cannot. even if this country alters course we are stuck with the pro oligarchy court for decades.

u/honeybadgerrulez 5h ago

even in nations battling autocracy voting is important, it helps to legitimize your struggle

u/Lucius-Halthier 4h ago

This is a Hungary situation, Orban said they only needed to win once and win big to make sure that they would stay in power, but he was just voted out. This is our “win once and win big” moment, if it isn’t a blue tide then part two of his regime will be stripping so much away that it would take an entire term to get it back and that’s what they want

u/Still_Pomegranate_63 4h ago

Millennials, Gen Z and Gen Alpha really are going to have to clean all this shit up. Its gonna take decades to get truely fuctional.

u/Orthas 3h ago

I just don't see why they'd bother with all the gerry mandering, voter suppression, and apathy bots if voting didn't matter.

u/MattinglyBaseball 3h ago

Maybe instead of allowing the narrative online to demonize the Dems as being as bad as the Republicans, people should have spoken up and shut that bullshit down. Everyone who didn’t vote or speak up enabled this.

u/TooMuchPowerful 3h ago

The only reason I have hope is because Trump is showing every bit of his age. He has an undeniable gravity about him that I don’t think is easily replicated. The problem is a huge chunk of Americans are hateful self-centered assholes. That mask is fully off, and won’t change with one man’s death.

u/strangelyliteral 2h ago

No, I think the American experiment ended in 2024. Like it won’t stop me from voting in these midterms and continuing to protest, but even winning in 2024 would’ve been winning a chance we could still turn the ship around, especially without the House and Senate.

(Which is a shame because I think Kamala would’ve actually been good at the unsexy institutional reform we needed so badly. Better than Biden, even.)

u/psychoCMYK 1h ago

it's never too late to withdraw your consent to be governed, you don't need to maintain the status quo they depend on to operate. not even soldiers work for free

the government only works because it has money, and that money comes from you and your labor

u/srilankan 1h ago

the difference between them and dems is they have a plan to steal midterms. Dems plan on being outraged. Not stopping it.
