Well they do think we’re pedophiles and that we’re trying to corrupt children even though so many headlines keep popping up about GOP being caught raping kids/having CSAM. I “knew” I was a different gender since I was a child and had no concept of any of that, I was doing what felt right. My republican family persistently abused and sexually harassed me for it as well as attempted to groom me via conversion therapy. None of that was trans folk. They were the first to tell me it was okay and that I wasn’t a mistake

I'm so sorry you went through that.

The Republican that raised me was convinced my progressive friends would turn me gay or something if I watched Will & Grace or went to Rocky Horror. This is the same guy who SA'ed me for years and claimed I deserved it due to my lack of religious beliefs. When I couldn't take it anymore, my friends took me in. They saved my life. Meanwhile my family doesn't care at all.

Same. Pacifism allows the brutes to oppress the vulnerable.

I’d love to live in a world where pacifism is possible. So I’m pro-pacifism in that way. But the way power works, it is not possible without a system keeping the brutes under control.

It’s no wonder religions often insist the oppressed should just “turn the other cheek.”

I was raised by deeply conservative people and ive watched their foolish angry ways lead them to despair, poor health, and early death.

I wasnt a target of SA but your story sounds too similar to many of my friends and people I grew up with.  Im glad you got out and have good friends.  Ive been that harbor for several people (fortunate enough to always have an extra bed or couch for a loved one) and ive always told them theyre the family i chose.
