It's because some people are so unhappy with their own lives that they can't handle the idea that someone else has the nerve to try and enjoy theirs

100% this and it always seems to be the answer when discussing "Conservative" values...

u/dathislayer 5h ago

Exactly. Then they'll unironically deck themselves out in their love for "Freedom", while telling everyone all the things they're not allowed to have. All you get is guns. No restrictions on deadly weapons, but saying "mixed results" on a radio show is a threat to the country.

It almost feels like the "philosophical zombie" is not such a theoretical concept. How can you be conscious and be like they are?

Zombie is the right term. Their brains don't function outside of life support.

the most christian people I know, are always the most hateful people I know, funny how that works.

I’m trying to imagine my finite time here on earth being used to hurt people it literally does not compute

You probably weren't raised in the aftermath of a social control cult. The average conservative is deliberately conditioned since childhood to be afraid of and submissive to any authority figure.

All you have to do is talk like to them like an abusive parent and the evidence spills itself on the floor in front of you.

Hell and Heaven exist on earth in different places and times, and in different minds.

They are closer to the animal realm. Their amygdala has them seeing threats to their existential reality everywhere. They don't have the prefrontal cortex to rein in their impulses long enough to really think about things.

They are living avatars of PTSD, ignorance, hatred, and greed: Hell-Beings.

they're seeing threats to their lives. conservatives scream about crazy stupid things like trans illegal immigrants will climb through your window rape you or your wife and turn everyone transgender. and those idiots BELIEVE IT

It must really suck to live in such constant fear.

"Quite an experience to live in fear, isn’t it?
That’s what it is to be a slave."

u/Bobcat-Stock 24m ago

Not exactly an apt comparison. The American conservative fears are based on fantasy stories cooked up in their heads. Slaves had a legitimate fear that was based on an actual threat to their lives and families. I guess being a slave to fear itself is also a thing, but again that is self induced. Where is that quote from? I’m not familiar with the reference.

Blade runner. It’s said by the main antagonist at the end. I wasn’t sure myself if it applied here, your comment just reminded me of it lol

They are closer to the animal realm.

I hear your anger and frustration, but I think it would be wise to refrain from comparing them to animals.  Dehumanizing people leads to abuses against them, and while they may want us to treated as less than subhuman it doesn’t mean we have to do the same.  Note, I’m not asking to take the high road here.

No they were spot on and what they're talking about is different Realms that you have to go through in order to reach enlightenment.

I agree with them I think they're spot on they look at everything as a threat that is animalistic

u/LightsaberThrowAway 3h ago

Oh my bad then, I didn’t realize it was through the lens of enlightenment and Buddhism.  I misread it as animalistic behavior in a dehumanizing way.

u/akitasioux13 3h ago

It's okay I figured you didn't understand what they were meaning.

Eta remove word whether

u/TuscanyHoney 2h ago

Especially if that "someone else" is someone that they deemed "lesser" than they are (Color, religion, sex)

u/Marsman121 1h ago

I am convinced a requirement to be conservative is lacking empathy. They can feel bad about a loved one or friend having a bad moment (sympathy), but they literally cannot "put yourself in another's shoes" so to speak.

It is the emotional intelligence of a toddler with no object permanence. It explains why you can have conservatives deeply caring, kind, and giving to their community, but spew absolute monstrous things about "the other."

Their community? They can see it, therefore it exists.

The others? Can't see, therefore doesn't exist.

This and the fact that if they couldn’t come out and act in this way, no one can.
