Wild how this is the message that resonates with conservatives. It is more important to them that the government makes victims out of less than 1% of the population than that the government does things to benefit them.

Conservatives are far more motivated by dislike of other than love even for themselves.

u/BrooklynSmash 6h ago

Conservatism is just making things worse for everyone, as long as the group you hate gets it worse.

u/twoducksinatub 6h ago

I mean literally the word conservatism means to conserve what you have and to resist progress. Progress being civils rights movement, womans suffrage, etc...

u/JMurdock77 5h ago

Notice how smoothly repealing the 19th amendment entered the mainstream of their discourse with people like Joel Webbon taking the stage? The Overton window has shifted so far right I have no idea how our society is supposed to keep functioning like this.

u/TripleJess 5h ago

Pretty sure we've got front row seats to the decline and collapse of America happening all around us.

u/proteannomore 5h ago

Yep, and I can’t say I saw it coming, but it made the idea of being childless a lot more appealing. I can’t imagine trying to guide a child into life with this insanity.

u/TripleJess 5h ago

I saw the collapse coming, I did not see the hatred towards trans people being so central to it all, or that I would be one of those hated.. but here we are.

u/Its_Pine New Hampshire 3h ago

It was a pretty big topic during Hitler’s rise as well. It tends to be a convenient group to target for hatred to grow.

For those not aware, the early Nazis framed gender nonconformity and homosexuality as "sexual Bolshevism" and a plot by the Jews to destroy traditional family values, lower white birth rates, and cause whites to be replaced.

You know, the same stuff many prominent figures in the US government now espouse

u/TripleJess 3h ago

Yeah, the German Institute of Sexology was one of the first places burned, and they were the leading group for transgender care and research. History loves to repeat itself.

u/Apprehensive-Pin518 3h ago

only because idiots can't learn from it.

Notably: it was specifically the first place the Hitler Youth raided and conducted the first mass book burning following the rise of the Nazi Party into power. Its notable that its the Hitler Youth that did it, because its important to contextualize that their attempts to infiltrate colleges and public schools (the GOP) are not random, but following the same playbook as the Nazi party to construct loyalist youth groups in order to sustain the movement long term; and its notable it was the first mass book burning, because it showcases how large of a pillar anti-LGBTQ actually was for the Nazi regime.

u/bottlebabycatfeeder 4h ago

Well, not all of us are insane. And i hope all us non insane people protect you when it comes down to it .

u/TripleJess 4h ago

Thank you. I truly appreciate that sentiment.

But.. it has already come down to it. It's happening, as we speak. Violence and murder against trans people is high right now, justice for us is nonexistent most of the time. Being victimized can land us in jails that institutionalize our rape, torture, and murder. Hundreds of laws are pushed every year to strip away our rights and criminalize our very existence. Hospitals are preemptively refusing us care out of fear of what -might- happen to them if they give us medical care.

We're already dying.

u/DesecratedPeanut 3h ago

And they're already doing nothing about it right now of course.

I'm sorry this is happening to you (from the UK) and similar is happening to trans rights where I am. Disgusting ignorant fools in charge everywhere. Though no where near as disgusting or ignorant as the US for some reason anti-trans is just as strong in the government here. I don't understand it other than the obvious culture war misinformation anger cycle gets clicks that turn into votes I guess. I'm just figuring out I'm non-binary during all this and it feels like the worst time for that too. It's insane that we'd both have been much safer and accepted 20 years ago.

At the risk of sounding like an idiot preaching to the choir - if you haven’t already please check your area for mutual aid groups / other organizing. All the online discourse pales in comparison to physical community that has your back however they can. You’re absolutely right, you deserve none of this, and I hope you get a crowd of amazing people around you, shit has indeed already hit the fan.

u/bottlebabycatfeeder 42m ago

Is there anything I can do for the community now?

u/proteannomore 3h ago

Yeah, I didn't have "becoming a part of a highly politically persecuted minority" on my transition radar. Kind of ironic given how desperately I'd try to fly under everyone's radar while I was in the closet.

u/TripleJess 3h ago

Right? I know exactly what you mean.

u/ShirtStainedBird 2h ago

Man it’s wild. I tried to explain this to a fella, in Canada mind you.

All riled up about non existent litter boxes and ‘transing’ kids. Like buddy I have 2 school age kids these things are not happening lol.

Meanwhile there’s like 100 people in town that have nowhere safe to sleep to night.

But a kind of person you’ve never even met doing something near as I know they have never done is what gets all your attention.

u/Chaiyns 1h ago

Good ol' Alberta lol

u/istoomycat 3h ago

u/TripleJess 3h ago

Hmm?

u/istoomycat 2h ago

Maybe he doesn’t like it about himself so wants others hurt.

u/Recipe_Freak Oregon 1h ago

They're running out of new groups to fear and hate. Just casting about, hoping something lands with their idiot base.

u/Automaton_General 50m ago

That's what they do. Vilify small groups with no meaningful way to resist, and then scale up once the water is boiling.

Nazi playbook.

u/Stuwey 41m ago

I thought there were enough adults in the room to keep him contained, but that only lasted until the end of his first term.. I knew then that the lesson he learned was that the entire system is built on gentlemen's agreements and flimsy negotiation. Biden could have thrown the weight of the justice department at him, but thought the system was sound, only to realize the depth of trump's depravity in his last week and pardoned people and family.

susan collins' quip was right, and he learned that loyalists and co-conspirators are easy to manipulate and that if you just do what you want first, by the time anybody addresses it, you have already done five other things for them to look at.

he has no desire to fix anything other than 'fix'ing them to his favor. he will never be culpable and his narcissism has determined his warpath of destruction.

republicans are traitorous scum, absent their elected duty, and should be tried for treason.

u/michaelfrieze 5h ago

I’m 38 and me and my wife really wanted a child but I don’t think it’s going to happen. She’s 36 so we really need to make that decision now and things just don’t look good.

u/Reasonable-Leg-2002 3h ago

A suggestion: adopt. Lots of unwanted babies need families. And trust my experience, adoptive families have the same bond as fully blood related families.

u/michaelfrieze 3h ago

This is most likely our plan.

u/DesecratedPeanut 3h ago

This. I couldn't bring a child into this world even if you just choose to consider proven facts about whats going to happen (climate change) its going to be shit for them regardless of if the world gets its act together now. Adopt and you can give a child the best chance they'll get with non of the guilt of leaving them worse off than yourself.

u/Apprehensive-Pin518 3h ago

one of the few choices I have made that I am genuinely happy about. I will never feel bad about not bringing a child into this hellscape.

u/Saxopwned Pennsylvania 1h ago

Yeah, I have a four-year-old. The only thing I can cling to is that the society that succeeds the United States will be better for people.

But a lot of people are going to hurt before that happens.

It's not. They outright said it before the 2024 election: Trump and Revolution. This is a coup. They have completely rejected the existing society and want to replace it with their own.

u/Embarrassed_Deal3284 2h ago

They already have, that’s the funny thing. Supreme Court, presidency, senate, congress, vast majority of state governments: all conservative. Even declining IQs.

Less important than the obvious issues but also telling, I’ve seen a ridiculous amount of discourse about bringing back incandescent light bulbs and less fuel-efficient cars.

It’s really bizarre.

u/Vaperius America 1h ago

The Overton window has shifted so far right I have no idea how our society is supposed to keep functioning like this.

There's an obvious answer to this question that was the logical conclusion to draw from the start all the way back in 2016 that some folks have been unfortunately resigned to accept was the obvious and inevitable trajectory we had been placed on by the GOP that plenty of other folks have taken over a decade to come to accept themselves.

Short answer though: we don't. Whatever is about to happen, the last ten years (plus the next two or so) is just a prelude to something much worse, whatever that is.

u/1Dunya 3h ago

I agree and I think the only option left is a complete collapse of the system which is hastened by the selfish and idiotic policies of the elites in the US. I cannot see how the system can be reformed or changed, do you have any ideas? It seems like it is too far gone to be changed from the inside. I am not in any way suggesting a collapse because let's be honest it is always the regular folks who suffer.

u/xxxxNateDaGreat 51m ago

The Overton window has shifted so far right I have no idea how our society is supposed to keep functioning like this.

It isn't, and that's their goal. Destroy and devalue the country, then buy it all for pennies on the dollar using .01% of their personal wealth, then turn it into a techno-fascist slave state.

Which is funny when you consider how liberally conservatives use gas and natural resources.

u/SafeForTwerking 5h ago

You'd think at the least they'd be environmental conservatives to preserve nature for all the outdoorsy shit they claim to like and at the very least protecting the environments of the animals they want to hunt, but I'm guessing they'd be just fine with a modern variation on Royal Forests, reserved for white folks.

u/arkiparada 4h ago

They don’t care about the planet because Jeebus is coming to end the world any day now and they’ll all be in heaven…which ironic because they do so little of what Jesus told them to do to get into heaven.

u/ProfSpaceTime 4h ago

That’s exactly it. We’re watching cristofacists attempt to incite armageddon. It is literally their goal to end the world in hopes of being raptured

u/arkiparada 4h ago

Yeah and not a single one would ever be raptured is the ironic and amusing part.

They can hang out on the destroyed planet they didn’t care enough about.

u/gusterfell 4h ago

Even if Christianity is real and true, they still wouldn’t be raptured, because the rapture as they understand it has no basis in traditional Christian dogma, only becoming a concept in the mid 1800s.

u/Zombatico 2h ago

American evangelicalism is a goddamned cult. It's not a mainline Christian Protestant denomination. It's a cult like the mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses are.

→ More replies (0)

u/sofaking1958 4h ago

None will be raptured, not because they aren't good people (though they're not), but because that's not a real thing.

u/Goodknight808 3h ago

If only they actually read the book they pretend to worship.

Those who incite Armageddon go straight to Hell. Everyone is supposed to be nice to each other and do their best until the day comes. Speed it up, and you are the bad guy the Bible talks about. The heinously evil will make Armageddon happen and go straight to Hell.

u/RedditTrespasser California 4h ago

Christianity, particularly the evangelical American variety, is a fucking death cult. Those people have no business sharing power in an Earthly government.

Frankly, if they are so sure that the afterlife is real and it’s so much better than here, I’d prefer it if they just went to go be with god already.

u/arkiparada 4h ago

Can’t agree with you more. Sad I can only give you one updoot.

Historically, conservatives were very much in favor of environmental conservation. It’s only in the last few decades that the notion has become an exclusively left-wing one.

u/sofaking1958 3h ago

Teddy Roosevelt being a fine example.

u/TheOtherMaven Virginia 3h ago

Teddy was actually a Progressive Republican (an extinct species) and eventually switched over to full-on Progressive ("Bull Moose") Party.

u/rothrolan 3h ago

Like the rest of what American Republicans used to support before the Brand New Deal, when the big switch of ideologies happened between Democrats and Republicans. Hence why the "Dixie-Crats" (AKA Southern Democrats) of before that time were the SOUTH that supported slavery, and Lincoln's Republican party fought to free them. Nowadays you have modern Republicans flying the traitorous Confederate flags, and they refuse to understand that the above ever happened, despite literally cheering for inequality and regressive policies.

It's sad, ironic, and above all irritating that we're doomed to repeat history because they are too blind to seeing it being re-written.

u/SanityInAnarchy California 2h ago

They used to be! The EPA was started under Nixon.

You can tie yourself in knots trying to take 'Conservative' as an actual description of what they believe. It's like trying to find out what's democratic about the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Meanwhile, us Progressives are out here saying maybe take a second and find out what something like USAID actually does before you start taking a chainsaw to it, maybe conserve some of what we've built over the past decades.

I'd even go so far as to argue that when it comes to the literal meaning of the words, it's entirely flipped: The Progressives are conservative and the Conservatives are progressive. Tempting to say they're regressive, because they're trying to turn the clock back to the 50's or whenever they think America was Great, but no, immigration enforcement was never what it is now.

u/reclusivegiraffe 5h ago

u/Logik_01 4h ago

"Selfish" is a better term for what they really are.

u/HolycommentMattman 3h ago

I think it's important to remember that conservatism isn't inherently bad. How it's largely applied via all conservative parties these days is pretty bad, though.

But as an example, look at the Facebook/Uber/tech mantra of "move fast and break things." Conservatism should resist that. And personally, I hate that mantra of moving fast and breaking things. Procedures and systems should constantly be reassessed to see if there are better ways to do things, but throwing baby out with the bathwater just because you're unhappy with safety regulations is madness.

Conservatism is fear disguised as rage.

u/oldpasswordforgot 4h ago

There was a study not that long ago, maybe around the time of "The 1619 Project", that showed that the right wing's reaction to the 1965 VRA and other civil rights legislations hurt white people just as badly as minorities.

It made a fair bit of noise at the time, but of course, quick web searches do not bring it up - though I did see in the results studies on how racist reactions have made the health of white people worse; probably highlighting the fact that right-wingers rejected universal healthcare because black people would benefit from it, too.

Which reminds me of this recent video on YT: Would They Still Want Universal Healthcare?

u/richardcraniumIII 4h ago

Reagan hated homosexuals and stem cell therapy (it kills "babies" ) But then his son came out and things changed inside Reagan's head. Then, Reagan suffered from dementia or something (kept saying that he could not recall). All of the sudden, stem cell therapy became a positive thing for diseases.

If you go back to Reagan, every single Republican president increased the our national deficit and conveniently started major conflicts. Grifters be grifting!

For comparison - see how the Dem presidents affected the our national debt.

u/nezukoslaying 4h ago

They make their own lives so hard and unhappy because of this, too. I cant imagine living day to day so selfishly and bitterly.

A LOT of them are attracted in secret (watching trans porn). They just don't like it being out in the open and try to kill them off.

Hell I was in a situation where I had to live with a vietnam veteran who had FOX and newsmax on all the time and voted for Trump, and he was gay and attempted to kiss me and had me massage him. (I have long hair but am straight).

Anyone who was born with male biology and willingly surrenders that is spitting in the face of their horrific views. They don’t seem to have as much hate for trans men as they do trans women.

Really wish they'd taught this part in middle school when I was a kid, but it wasn't even hugely acceptable to be gay back then, it was the early 00s. I didn't even find out trans people existed until I was a junior or senior in high school, and even then when Nazi Germany was discussed, the name and purpose of this building were not. I'd always assumed it was some government building.

Everybody has seen it, though. Pictures of the Institute are practically in the dictionary next to "book burning." People are just conveniently not told what the building specifically was, because then that raises uncomfortable questions about why it was chosen as the site, and just how far back the history of LGBTQ+ people goes. Conservatives want everyone to think trans people are just a socially deviant fad, not a whole class of people that's always been there and always been persecuted in some form.

u/aeoliscams 1h ago edited 1h ago

I went to an event at our local holocaust museum during pride month that addressed the pink triangle victims of the holocaust: gay people, trans people, etc. It was sobering to see gay and trans people existing as an open secret, almost accepted in some parts of German society in the 1930s, then demonized so thoroughly by the Nazi regime that the law that criminalized gay people, Paragraph 175, continued even after the war.

There were detainees in concentration camps that were recalled to custody after everyone else was freed because they were "duly" convicted under Paragraph 175. See for yourself on the Wikipedia page how long it took for that law to be repealed. You won't like the answer.

Edit, "you" as in other readers. I'm sure the person I'm replying to knows.

u/acoastaldog 6h ago

Well they do think we’re pedophiles and that we’re trying to corrupt children even though so many headlines keep popping up about GOP being caught raping kids/having CSAM. I “knew” I was a different gender since I was a child and had no concept of any of that, I was doing what felt right. My republican family persistently abused and sexually harassed me for it as well as attempted to groom me via conversion therapy. None of that was trans folk. They were the first to tell me it was okay and that I wasn’t a mistake

u/Stargazer1919 Illinois 5h ago

I'm so sorry you went through that.

The Republican that raised me was convinced my progressive friends would turn me gay or something if I watched Will & Grace or went to Rocky Horror. This is the same guy who SA'ed me for years and claimed I deserved it due to my lack of religious beliefs. When I couldn't take it anymore, my friends took me in. They saved my life. Meanwhile my family doesn't care at all.

u/Affectionate_Buy_830 4h ago

I used to be a pacifist. Stories like this are why I no longer claim that.

u/LadyPo 2h ago

Same. Pacifism allows the brutes to oppress the vulnerable.

I’d love to live in a world where pacifism is possible. So I’m pro-pacifism in that way. But the way power works, it is not possible without a system keeping the brutes under control.

It’s no wonder religions often insist the oppressed should just “turn the other cheek.”

Well, they have a narrative (I don't believe it's a coherent one, either) that they aren't allowed to rant about over the open air because it's quite cuckoo.

Basically, they have some "shibboleths" that mean "the left-wing agenda":

  • Critical race theory
  • DEI
  • Socialism/communism
  • Globalism
  • etc.

And these things are just 1 thing, and it means whatever the foolish audience hearing the dogwhistle is most afraid of.

  • Forced transgender surgery in public schools.
  • Shariah law.
  • Turning the frogs gay.
  • Non-white people forming violent coalitions to take power and property from white people.
  • 100% tax rates and UBI.
  • Women being kind of uppity and making their own decisions or being able to stand up for their own autonomy/property in front of a white man.
  • Policing mainstream expression/speech about newly forbidden words, saying merry christmas, venerating Christopher Columbus, etc.

So, trans existence/equality/rights are just part of the word cloud that means the liberal agenda and will result in the unraveling of their society (or privilege).

Other than the gap in constructing a narrative with the Nazis, I agree completely. They haven't reached the level of power/consensus the Nazi party had in Germany so they can't turn their insane ranting into state policy (and hopefully never can).

u/Tildur 3h ago

What I find more astonishing is that the germans of the time already suffered a lot of different troubles, and nazis blamed jews of this problems. Yes, they used incoherent narratives and a lot of conspiracy theories, but about something that have already happened at the time.

Meanwwhile, these people have had a comfortable life, and the GOP are feeding them delusional future scenarios that doesn't even make sense.

u/nrmjba 3h ago

Deep down they are afraid they will be attracted to a trans person ( trans women, because they really don't even mention trans men which I find interesting and I think reenforces my point ) and that somehow makes them gay or whatever.

u/aculady 3h ago

There's another side to their overemphasis on the "danger" of trans women vs. that of trans men. Because they denigrate and devalue women and femininity, it makes sense to them that a woman would want to be a man: in their view, who wouldn't want to be stronger, "better", and higher up in the naturally ordained social hierarchy than they already are? So trans men aren't threatening to the social order in the way that trans women are. Trans men, in their view, are trying to change their own status within the social hierarchy, but in a way that doesn't directly challenge the heirarchy's validity. But trans women? For someone who could automatically have the social power and privilege of a man to willingly reject masculinity and embrace femininity calls the inherent validity of the entire hierarchical structure into question, and is seen as profoundly unnatural and dangerous.

u/nrmjba 2h ago

Excellent point. That's 100% valid. It's amazing that so much comes back around to them not respecting or valuing women.

u/tucker_case 5h ago

Anti semitism doesn't make more sense, can we not please

u/Tildur 4h ago

I'm not saying that. What I'm saying is that nazis needed to construct a narrative of how the "evil jews" impacted the common people. The germans at the time had gone through a devastating economical crisis and the people were suffering, and the nazis made up a narrative that blamed jews for it. But now this people have lived a comfortable life, and the GOP didnt even need to made up a narrative of how trans people were the cause of the people troubles. They just hate them for existing.

TLDR: Not defending nazis, just saying today nazis are even more idiotic.

By and large most MAGA people hate themselves more than anyone else could. They're a deeply insecure group of people. If they could just keep to their own pathetic life and not victimize entire groups of people just trying to live their lives, that'd be great. But they don't, so these self loathing scumbags need some humble pie shoved in their mouths via law enforcement after Democrats take over.

u/Once-Upon-A-Rhyme 5h ago

Motivated by fear and hatred of anything not in a Norman Rockwell painting

u/DigNitty 5h ago

My MAGA coworker is vehemently anti-trans but totally fine with gay people.

She can’t see how she’s on the wrong side of history again and again. Conservatives are always the ones in black and white photos resisting objective equality.

Let's not forget the context this provides next time we see some dumb fuck farmer whining about the price of beef. This is the part they voted for. Why can't they hate trans people and make up ridiculous lies about them AND get those people's sympathy and support?

u/whogivesashirtdotca Canada 3h ago

“You voted for this” really needs to be the only response to conservative whining about the economy.

u/Dickies138 California 5h ago

Party of hate

u/Agreeable-Network485 4h ago

The current conservative obsession with trans people has two root reasons.

1: they lost the culture war on hating gay people. Trans people are the new "safe" target in their eyes, although they are also losing that battle so they have to frame it as pretending to give a fuck about women's sports and all the other roundabout nonsense they dream up. I grew up in the Dubya years and all the shit they've been saying about trans people now is the same shit they said about gay people back in the 90's and 2000's.

2: it lets them think about their number one obsession: cocks. Conservatives fucking love thinking about big, fat, juicy, veiny cocks. Conservative women love thinking about cocks because their husbands are all overweight losers who haven't fucked them good ever. Conservative men love thinking about cocks because theirs are useless and they have massive cock envy. It's why they love cuckolding. It's why redpill content has taken off in the last decade, because it's repackaged small penis humiliation content at its core. They love jerking off to T-Girl porn because it lets them satisfy their fantasies of having fat, throbbing cocks shoved down their throats but it's attached to a woman so it's not gay, at least until the post-nut shame kicks in and then trans people are back to being the devil

u/adchick 6h ago

Fear is by far more profitable for fundraising, than acceptance. Unfortunately.

Nationalism capitalizes on fear to centralize power and dollars.

u/ttv_icypyro 6h ago

Clearly, for a lot of people, when you are raised to self-hate and understand yourself to be a worthless miserable sinner, the only way to feel better is to hate someone else more

u/Tango_D 5h ago

Conservatism always runs on the suppression of threat Literally always everywhere every time, even if the supposed threat is completely made up, it doesn't matter so long as the amygdala get triggered.

u/Heliosvector 5h ago

Its because conservatives actually believe that blue haired radicals are infiltrating schools and then go around whispering into little boys ears "maybe you a trans, you should cut your penis off. here, ill help". Thats only slightly hyperbole. They actually think this is happening. They believe that the trans movement is coming after their sons penises and masculinity. (they dont give af about trans men though)

u/dostoevsky4evah 4h ago

As for trans men "chopping off breasts" is a pretty salient argument for them. Women even whine that it's a "mockery of breast cancer survivors". Hate encourages wild fantasizing about disgust.

u/Heliosvector 4h ago

Dude, you cant even make boob cut jokes on a plant page. During covid I was a part of the rare craze and one member used to propegate this "boobie cactus" and she made a joke that she was giving her plant a mastectomy in order to make new plants and the community eviscerated her.

This is it. It's a last desperate call to try and regain the midterms. He's trying to capitalise on the actual hate in conservatives to overlook his obvious blunders

u/Dont_Touch_Me_There9 5h ago

When you realize this, you understand that there is not a difference in politics that keeps us divided. It is a divergent in decency, empathy, and reality.

u/Several_Vanilla8916 5h ago

Yeah it’s wild. I can understand not giving a shit about trans people but actively getting angry about their existence is just so weird.

u/Eternal_Bagel 5h ago

It’s like a placebo of improvement when someone is not able to make their life better but takes comfort in being able to think that someone they hate is having a bad day.  Like well I may not be able to make rent this month but at least I’m not one of those (insert minority).

u/Infinite_Click_6589 5h ago

Now that they caught their tail on abortion, trans issues are the most effective lever to pull on America's rural religious, and it's a great one for them.

Gender identity is hugely important to their way of life and all these communities are built around taking pride on the fact that X is going to heaven but their neighbor Y is going to hell because they believe the same thing, but a little differently.

u/joe-h2o 5h ago

Remember, it is impossible for a conservative to enjoy a meal unless he knows someone else is starving.

u/red286 4h ago

less than 1% of the population

Conservatives routinely overestimate how many trans people there are, often believing the number is closer to 10% than less than 1%.

They also believe that trans people are "new" and "didn't exist before Obamna", so they believe they are a bulwark against the encroachment of trans people into society, and that were it not for them, in a few years everyone would be trans.

It's all complete fucking nonsense, but it's why they make such a huge deal out of something that will likely have no impact on their lives. After all, if trans people weren't a huge threat to society, why would Fox News be claiming otherwise?

u/RecordOfTheEnd 3h ago

This was the chosen target if one very specific group in the 1930/40s

u/stumbleuponlife Canada 5h ago

Well they need an enemy du jour. did you hear about trans people or drag book readings before roe was overturned?

Probably not, because abortion was the scare tactic. But roe is gone so now it’s trans people.

For a lot of those older folks, they had no idea transgender people existed until facebook told them about it a few years ago.

I saw a post the other day of a women complaining that her family was losing their farm due to trump policies. But that she doesn’t regret her vote for him because as a mother she thought it was more important to “protect them” from gays and trans people. She thought as a mother that was more important than being able to feed her kids. You can’t fix that level of stupid.

u/Illuminati_Shill_AMA Maryland 5h ago

I mean they elected a guy who ran an ad campaign that said "Kamala Harris is for they/them, Donald Trump is for us." They do it because it works on their base and they have nothing else.

u/Fight_those_bastards 5h ago

u/darkrood 4h ago

As someone who bought conservative taking point once, I’d say that’s how it works:

  1. Acknowledge voters’ problems
  2. Convince you that there is this group out here (always happen to be democrat leaning)
  3. Persuade the voters that all their problems are caused by the said group one way or another

Rinse and repeat.

If anyone from the voter base somehow saw through the BS, convince the rest that the said individuals are either satanist or Democrats

u/padizzledonk New Jersey 5h ago

Less than 1% of 1%, and you can probably toss another one in there

99.99999% of these "Conservatives" have never even come in contact with a trans person, their existence effects their lives all of 0% even if one was their next door neighbor lol and you can go right down the list of shit theyre always screaming and yelling about and its exactly the same for like 95% of their issues

Its all a distraction for them, the GOP keeps its voters spun up and frantic about complete nonsense to keep them angry and scared so they dont pay attention to the fact that the people they vote for are bending them over and fucking them dry while turning out their pockets

LBJ had the best quote, its been 60+ years and it still rings true

"If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you

I have no hope for these people anymore, i dont think they will ever look up and notice that theyre being endlessly manipulated to their own detriment

Republicans have fully become the party of hate.

There is no "old" Republicans left, just Nazis, their Republican supporters, and Republicans who didn't do anything to stop the Nazis.

If they succeed in ratfucking the midterms then we will know for sure that America is gone indefinitely. Right now, it is very likely, but not quite 100%. The only thing we have to hope for is their incompetence messing up their plans.

My take has always been that they strive to make people live in fear and enjoy watching other people suffer.

u/aradraugfea 4h ago

It’s been studied. Fear motivates them more than anything else, and fear of the unknown, something strange, out of the norm, and, perhaps most importantly, rare at a level that the average person has only heard of it and will believe what they’re told without any of that pesky lived experience getting in the way is easy and exploitable.

Conservatives and, by extension, the GOP, can only win on culture-war issues. They literally suck at governing precisely because they believe, as Reagan told the, that “government is the problem”. They fail in every sector of federal government. So they must rely on a misinformed, uneducated voter base and culture war tactics. Citizens United made it much easier to sell their garbage, regressive policies. Project 2025 is their new strategy and it bakes in all the distortions causing our republic to degrade. Sad.

u/Longgrain54 4h ago

Fear and anxiety are the primary drivers of the conservative mindset. It’s physiologically-based in the presence of an enlarged amygdala, the central factor in the fear and anxiety reflexes of every human. This is supported by studies from the National Institutes of Health and Psychology Today.

Trump has a predatory, parasitic existence in every room he occupies. This is how he ruins so many people and conditions that cross his path. Jeanine Pirro is now on the Rudy Giuliani path to career obliteration and legal irrelevance.

u/sssssssssssssss5s 4h ago

Republican/Conservative politics has been taken over by Trump and MAGA. It truly is just a basket of irredeemable deplorables at this point.

Immature, stupid, arrogant, greedy, sloppy, generally the worst kind of people you can imagine, amplified by having a piece of shit in their own image sitting in the oval office. (Oh how did I forget racist, homophobic, transphobic, fake-christian, anti-education, wastepeople)

Money and corruption and misinformation allowed this scumbag to get into power, the GOP chose to abandon all of their ideals for short term gains, and now look at us.

Truly a country run by absolute idiots. They can't even do fascism without fucking things up for themselves.

u/M0THMEAT 4h ago

I think people who are attracted to the conservative ideology lack true "empathy". They may feel bad for people or do nice things for others, but I dont think they can truly "feel" what others experience, or cannot put themselves in someone else's shoes because their is something cognitively disconnected. The "empathy" that they do project externally is hollow, and self-benefiting. Altruism is an alien concept to them.

u/Primordial_Cumquat 4h ago

Conservatives aren’t making transgender people victims… conservatives are making themselves out to be the “victims” with transgender persons being the “others” that are “ruining their ways of life”. Conservatives are some of the worst.

u/Slade_Riprock 3h ago

Trump has no beliefs, morals, or feelings for anything. He doesn't everything out of self preservation, period.

He's being told by Stephen Miller that "transgender stuff is a HUGE issue to their voters" (it isn't) and that "Muslims are taking over and it's a huge issue with their voters" (it is a minor issue) and that these have to be talking points to win (they aren't).

This election will come down to what nearly every modern election had come down to... The economy.

And stock markets and corporate profits don't register with people. What they pay for dinner, gas, their vacation, etc., does.

The party in power typically suffers from their voters withholding their vote rather than voting against them. The party out of power tends to see an influx of voter turn out which brings about the change.

MAGA thought DOGE was going to find all this money and save everything.

MAGA legit thinks tariffs would bully then world into greater investment

MAGA truly believed removing illegals by the millions would fix all the problems.

MAGA thought quick wars would boost their popularity and give them resources to steal.

MAGA he literally been wrong about everything from day 1 and they are too stupid to admit it and pivot. So they will double and triple down and then attempt to steal the election. If that doesn't work they will claim a fraudulent election and Trump will do everything he can to prevent a Democrat majority taking over.

The one caveat I will make is that I have 100% faith the Democrats will absolutely fuck up a near sure thing. And even if they do avoid snatching defeat from the jaws I'd victory. They will 100% go the opposite way then people want in the run up to 2028. They will either "reach across the aisle" and/or they will rush to idiotic and toothless impeachments rather than making a steady, unending indictment against Trump and MAGA every single day until the Election.

u/PipChaos 3h ago
