The U.S. Department of State has warned Americans not to travel to the Central African Republic for any reason due to unrest, crime, kidnapping, landmines, health and terrorism. However, the Department of Homeland Security defended the deportations in an email to the Times.
The agency said the Trump administration, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, is using “all lawful options” to carry out what it called “the largest deportation operation in history.”
“When an individual is no longer in ICE custody then ICE will no longer be responsible for them,” the agency said. “This is common sense.”

Fun fact: in germany we dont use the word 'deportation' any more because of that history you are mentioning, even though its a perfectly normal german word. Our far right nutjobs today use words like remigration or abschiebung (which would also just translate to deportation in english). So when the Trump admin says 'we are doing the largest deportation operation in history' I shudder

They had some success for forcing them to leave “voluntarily” as those who could afford to did. But the regime failed with the deportations as no other country would take them. Even the United States refused a boat load of Jewish refugees (read about the MS St Louis if you really want to see how far US revisionism has gone).

No one told Moreno, who originally came to the United States on a temporarily protected basis, where he was going until five hours into the flight, when an immigration officer told him they were going to Africa.
“I honestly thought it was a bad joke because the officer laughed, like he was making fun of me,” Moreno said.
A month after arriving in the Central African Republic, Moreno and 35 other immigrants deported on a 21-hour flight remain in Bangui, the country’s capital, without passports and no information about what will happen next. They stay at the Maison Confort, a modest hotel located in a busy neighborhood near central Bangui.

Hope others saw the opening segment of last night's TRMS. She highlights the case of an Afghani who assisted US troops there for years at great risk to himself and family, and as a result, was given, together with his family, passage to the US. Idk what their formal status was - refugee, etc?
Well, they deported his ass to The Central African Republic, where he has zero contacts, and where the US State Dpt advises Americans traveling there to first log their blood/DNA so their bodies can be identified in the likelihood that they meet a violent end.
The CAR says they'll give him three months, then they'll deport him, presumably back to Taliban- controlled Afghanistan, where he'll be tortured and killed.
The US Marine colonel that promised him and his family protection is speaking out, which is the only reason we know about it, sure to be dishonorably discharged by this fckn clown car of an administration.
Good luck getting help from any local populations in future combat zones. 🤦♂️

Listen, politics used to be about finding common ground. Most people could probably agree on a more aggressive deportation program focused on those convicted of serious crimes. You know, policies based on logic and reason instead of hate and votes.
However, I’m comfortable stating that most people wouldn’t agree on abducting and stranding a dude who was literally following all the rules halfway across the world.
I hope this country goes back to common ground politics, but it’s going to be a while I fear.

I think people are confusing the Cubans who made it to the US right after 1959 vs the current Cubans. The whole thing about “slave owners” does not describe people coming to the US a long time after the revolution. The Cubans being deported could have not voted for Trump and are completely different in life experiences and struggles from the Cubans who made it to the US around 1959. While they will agree that Cuba is a dictatorship that does not mean they support the embargo or right wing policies. There are still some, especially the ones staying in Miami, but it is not as common as with the people that made it in the sixties and their kids and stuff.

Shame because if the people they’re disappearing are ACTUALLY undocumented immigrants, they didn’t vote for this.
Either way, a misdemeanor offense doesn’t warrant a death sentence or a life in imprisonment and slave labor. These are crimes against humanity.

Brilliant idea doing this right before a midterm election that’s already likely to not go in their favor, where the Florida senate seat is potentially in play and the Democrats candidate is a progressive, and Cubans are a lot of the reason Florida is so red. It’s like they want to lose!
