Far be it from me to want Pond to become a global pop phenomenon like Tame Impala, losing their authenticity and watering themselves down.
Still, I’d love for their talent to be recognized by a wider non-mainstream audience. To give an example: in my opinion, Fontaines D.C. aren't more interesting than Pond at all, yet despite playing a genre that isn't particularly mainstream, they have way more audience. I think that's because they've built a much stronger brand identity in terms of image, likely investing more money into communication as well.
Now, I don't know whether avoid this route is a deliberate choice by Nick and Jay, but I’d love to see them expand their audience and break free from the label of being Kevin Parker’s poor cousins—because, to me, they’re so much more than that.
What do you think about it?
