Merle poodles are no longer allowed on this sub

Moving forward, poodles with Merle coloring are not permitted on this sub. Merle coloring is a byproduct of mixing Australian Shepards into a poodle line. A poodle with Merle coloring by definition cannot be AKC papered without outright lying. Breeding for color is nothing new for poodles, but in this circumstance it comes with the possibility of introducing myriad health issues, and is an irresponsible practice at best. It is not good for the breed, it is dangerous to the dogs. We cannot in good conscience allow the promotion of this Poodles with this genetic trait, beautiful or not.

NOTICE: IT'S A T-SHIRT POST? IT'S A SCAM! (Same with coffee mugs, etc) T-SHIRT POSTS ARE NOT ALLOWED ANYMORE

Several times per day there are scammers who post here, showing a t-shirt or similar product, and then another scammer in the comments asks, "Where did you get it?" A link to a scam website is posted for everyone to follow, provide their personal info and credit card, then wonder how their identity got stolen.

Just like a Parti Poodle, it's very black-and-white. If you see a post sharing a t-shirt design, mouse pad, coffee mug, etc. IT IS A SCAM, and the quickest way to get your account banned is to reply, "Where can I get one", "I love it, do you have a link?" or something similar.

Here are the rules:

  1. Posts of t-shirts or other personalized items with dogs are prohibited. If you post one, you will get banned.
  2. Anyone who replies to the post and asks about acquiring the item will be banned.
  3. If you see a post like this, hit the report button, that's the easiest way to get our attention and we will remove the post and ban those involved.
  4. Do not contribute, do not call them out, just don't post at all. Hit the report button.

It seems every time something like this is posted, more than one of our users fall for it, then they are asking moderators, "What did I do to get banned?" You responded to a scammer, which makes you look like you're on their team. Just stop.

5/14/2026 - Scams: 1, Users who fell for it: 1, post was up for 23 minutes before being removed.

Only at 8 months old he has already visited Spain, France, Belgium, Poland, Italy, Austria, Germany, Slovakia and Czechia. Most during our one camping trip to see the total solar eclipse, which he also witnessed! He's an amazing travel companion and we couldn't ask for a better dog!

We recently did a roadtrip and there were some firsts! First boat ride, first swim in open water and first time hiking in the High Sierra. He was an absolute trooper. I’m so proud of him. 🥰🐩❤️

Wanna get a continental trim…

I want her to have a conti trim but she definitely doesn’t have enough hair on her body and chest, what style can I ask for that can be grown out into a conti? Would a Miami work?

Does your poodle make up their own games?

This is one of Gregor's favorites. He hides his ball in this old scarf and then uncovers it, then noshes on it for a while, then stamps on it so it bounces around, then covers it with the scarf again, and so on. He never rips the scarf either.

In the middle of moving so everything's a bit of a mess lol.

Poodle people who live in apartments, what’s your routine like?

My top priority in life is my SPOO happiness. I beat myself up over it and am always looking for places to improve.
Our routine:
Monday to Thursday work 6:30am to 1:30pm
-5:30AM walk on flexi Leash in an open area for 1 mile.
-1:30 to 3:00pm/3:30 offleash hike (2-4 miles) and run in an open field. I live next to trails right up the street from me.
5pm dinner followed with an hour of a frozen marrow bone.
-8pm quick potty break then bedtime.

Sadly he is not aloud in our bedroom at night and I feel so much guilt over it. We are both too light of sleepers. Bedtime 9pm to 5am I jump right out.

Friday Saturday Sunday: off from work
-typically go for long hikes 10 plus miles and I try my best to not leave him alone for more than 3-4 hours on those days.

Should I feel guilty for not letting him in our room at night? I beat myself up bc of it. My husband said it’s a nonnegotiable.

When it's nice out, I like to air dry her with a car ride + windows down. She likes car rides, she likes the dryer way less, but I guess she thought we were doing something more fun. 😂

Once she was dry, we did go to PetSmart, so she had fun with that, and several said they'd never felt a curly dog with such soft fur, so shout out to Ice on Ice conditioner for that, I guess!

Tried groom her myself for the first time

Usually I take her to the groomer, but those bills add up fast, and her face was getting fluffy I could barely see her eyes. So I figured I'd try doing it myself this time. I was honestly more nervous than she was. I got a new pair of clippers from oneisall and started with a longer guard cuz I was scared of cutting too much off. She's pretty sensitive to noise, so I was relieved it wasn't too loud. She actually did really well, just needed a few treat breaks here and there. Definitely not groomer-level, but she seems happy with it😂How'd we do? Hopefully I'll do even better next time.

UGH he’s being weird again

He’s been standing in the hall for over an hour looking at the bookshelf, fascinated with it… there is nothing obviously interesting about the shelf and nothing I offer distracts him from this spot… is this how I discover I have mice or something 🫠

Update: He found his Christmas Stash.

When we find cheap toys we put them in one of those cubes when he's not looking and save them for Christmas. no new toys have gone into there in the past month or so, I have no idea how he could possibly know that toys he has not smelled or known the existance of could be inside one of those boxes but as soon as i removed the box he followed me excitedly... I have hidden the box somewhere he cannot go in the house and he is not happy with me.

First time dog owners considering a poodle, nervous but excited, need advice

Hi everyone,

My partner and I are thinking about adopting a poodle, but neither of us has ever owned a dog before. We live in an apartment, and while my partner is really excited, I'll admit I'm a bit nervous. I know it's going to be a learning curve and I want to make sure we're actually ready before bringing a dog home.

A few things I'd love input on:
1. What should we sort out before adopting (supplies, apartment proofing, schedule changes, etc.)?
2. What surprised you most in the first few weeks of dog ownership?
3. Any poodle specific things we should know: energy level, grooming, temperament, apartment suitability?
4. Tips for easing the nerves of a total newbie?

We're committed to doing this right and giving a dog a great home, just want to go in prepared rather than figuring it out on the fly. Any advice, personal stories, or "wish I knew this sooner" tips are hugely appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Barking...

Hello, r/poodles! I have just adopted my mom's 10 year old Moyen (mom is having memory issues, I like to think I won the family lottery by getting to bring this girl into our menagerie) and WOW is she a barker. I know this can be a thing with poodles (none of my other dogs have been barkers), but does anyone have suggestions for working with an older pup to take the edge off? TYIA!

What’s your poodle’s favorite toy?

This little lamb is my boy’s favorite toy, and I have to hide it every now and then so he engages with other toys. I’m thinking about buying a backup for when he destroys this one.

What’s your pup’s favorite toy and how do you keep it interesting for him/her. How often do you get new toys and what’s the acceptance rate ?

do toy/miniature/standard have different personality traits?

Post image
104 Upvotes

i know it sounds a bit of a weird questions but hear me out

my Sophie is a miniature poodle, she is very very vivacious and not very friendly towards dogs. she also doesn’t really like children and strangers unless she knows they are family friends, she kinda ignores them? plus she has the usual sass people describe with poodles even though she’s still super clingy and sweet

all the toy poodles i have seen in the street are on the other hand are so friendly towards everyone, super companion dogs, much calmer and more oriented towards cuddles than play

i only saw one standard poodle irl (wish more, i think they are so beautiful and majestic) and she was indifferent and calm, very well behaved and had the typical regal aura
