Miley Cyrus arguably went too far with The Dead Petz and Something Beautiful, at least commercially. Those albums were largely forgotten by the mainstream. You could make a similar case for Katy Perry’s Witness, Lady Gaga’s Artpop, Madonna’s American Life, Camila Cabello’s C,XOXO, and now Ariana Grande’s Petal.

At the same time, there are plenty of examples of artists who took big creative risks and still landed massive successes: Miley herself with Plastic Hearts, Madonna with Ray of Light, Taylor Swift with Folklore, and Beyoncé with Renaissance.

This isn’t about whether those albums deserved more recognition. It’s about figuring out why some experiments work and others don’t. Is it just about quality? Or is there a tipping point, a limit to how much an artist can reinvent themselves before they start losing the fanbase they’ve already built?

This is Britney in the middle of full pop-star combustion. Hair blown out and flying wild, headset mic practically glued to her mouth, shoulders open, face lit up like the stage itself is feeding her…and then you get to the eyes. That’s the whole f\*cking picture.

The shot is no more than half a second but it conveys a lifetime of information. Her mouth is smiling, but her eyes are cutting sideways with this sharp, knowing, almost FERAL focus. She looks amused, stimulated, competitive, dangerous, reeking of confidence and turned on by the performance itself. It’s not “look at me, I’m pretty.” It’s unfiltered audacity. Her eyes are saying, “I know exactly where the camera is, I know exactly what I’m doing, and I know you cannot look away.”

There is heat in that stare. Ego. Nerve. Mischief. Hunger. She looks like she is having the time of her life and trying to kill the audience at the same time.

This was Britney’s coronation as the industry’s official Princess of Pop.

Yes, I admit: I (guess) I am a Swiftie for I do listen to Taylor's music and the very album that introduced me to Taylor Swift is Red from 2012.

When I first heard Taylor Swift, back in 2012, I (believe) I was 7 years old (still in elementary school), and the first song that I heard from the Red album was "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" on TV in my then shared bedroom with my mom and I.

As the days went on, I heard, "I Knew You Were Trouble" and "22".

What's an album by Taylor Swift, or any other artist, you first heard since childhood/teenage years and/or college years.

Their first album had 4 top 10 hits, including a number 1 song with C'Est La Vie. The second album didn't do as well but it still went Platiunum in the UK, Gold in the US, and then, POOF, they vanished from the Pop scene.

So we’ve seen plenty of artists come out of the woodworks with new albums and I think we can all agree that it’s high time Nadia came back with hers. So what would you like to hear from her?

I listened to Serena Joy this morning and commend the message. I gotta say pop is not exactly known for its activism tho. Y'all got any others?

Britney gets a lot of stick but she can sing. Her real voice shows a much more wider vocal range than expected.

Tate McRae is a great dancer but she's more Paula Abdul than Britney or Mandy Moore.

I used to joke that she sounds like Gollum's baby sister.

How exactly can even the richest person for someone so aggressively down our throats? Even Hollywood Nepo babies have hurdles to establishing themselves in the industry, how did this chick just show up?

My biggest issue is with her lack of talent, she has zero range, her voice is really bad, and even with finally polished production, her content is extremely soulless and sterile. This is completely aside from the fact that she apparently stole her breakaway “hit.”
