Quick backstory:
I used to watch porn since I was about 16. There were points when I was somewhat addicted, my frequency was too high, it was starting to affect my motivation, etc.
I've been able to control it and even stopping it altogether for long stretches of time, but when I'm having a few undisciplined weeks, my self-esteem is low, my mind looks for a quick pleasure, and porn is always easy and fast to get.
So, for complete clarity: my addiction has never been too bad, and I haven't beaten it completely. What I've been able to do, however, is enjoying porn way less than I used to, which makes it easier to avoid watching it. My systems and willpower still have to work, but they don't need to be as strong as they used to.
Now, how did I do that? Well, it as a completely unintended consequence of partner dancing, concretely Bachata.
I've been dancing Bachata for a few years, and something that I didn't understand about partner dancing before were the concepts of sensuality and connection.
Sensuality: caressing a girl's hair, your noses touching, looking at each other intensely in the right moment of the song... It's a preverbal feeling. Some dances feel incredibly sensual, which is extremely enjoyable. And this is an element that's just not in most of the port. Most of it is just plain sexual.
Connection: the complicity before starting to dance, the moments when the music stops and both of you are in perfect harmony, feeling how she lets go, how she surrenders herself to the song and to the moves you are doing. Again, none of this is easy to find in porn.
Porn is visual and sexual. Partner dancing is kinesthetic and sensual.
By becoming good at partner dancing, learning to enjoy it, having some of my most transcendent times of my life with it, somehow my brain started to place way more importance in the kinesthetic and sensual parts os male-female interaction. And the great news are that real life sex is very kinesthetic and can absolutely be very sensual.
Since I noticed this change, as I said, I don't enjoy or crave porn the same way I used to. It just seems boring to me. The sexual and visual elements of sex -- just by themselves -- leave me simply unsatisfied.
I also noticed I'm way more present in my sexual relationships, which induces the girl to be more present too.
With all that being said, I'm not sure if this can be helpful to most of you. Is it worth taking up a sensual partner dance practice just because of the effects it has on your porn cravings? Probably only in very extreme cases. Still, I wanted to share my perspective just in case it can help someone.
