I like 2/3, the lines of the garage door draw your eye to the cat, and the cat seems to stand out more in that pic when compared to 3/3. The door is just very dark in that one which I feel carries over to the cat seems

Shot this on an iPhone 16 (base) using the 1× lens, with Lightroom’s Camera DNG option. I edited it in Lightroom and noticed a complementary color palette naturally occurring in the scene—the warm brown shutter and cool blue door—so I pushed those colors to make the contrast more intentional. I also did some selective masking, slightly lifting the highlights and deepening the shadows, and added a subtle lens blur to enhance the depth and cinematic feel. If you have have any other doubts , feel free to ask...

And one more, I've also added a mask around the cat eyes to make the blue pop more matching the door's blue color.

The second one, maybe mask the cat and lighten him up a bit--would draw focus to him better

Thank you! but is it just me liking the second crop 🤔

Both are great! I think I prefer the second one because the blue door matches well with the color of the cat’s eyes.

Yup , also this is what my thought was during editing "second image conveys a stronger sense of mystery. The cat feels like it’s observing me and following my movement, rather than simply posing for the camera. Because the brown and blue complimentary color make me feel the cat thoughts too.. "

I would definitely agree with that. It tells more of a story too, not just that a cat is sitting there, but that as you walk through the door, the cat is sitting there watching you like a guard. Really great job on this! Interesting composition and very alluring colors.

What camera/lens was this shot on? I'm pretty impressed that the image still looks so crisp and detailed after the crop.

It was shot on base iphone 16 , 1x lens

Two is my favourite. Very nice edit.

Yeah, and the horizontal lines on the brown shutter lead the eye to the cat.

I seem to be in the minority preferring #3 with the door. Matching the blue in kitty’s eyes, a but out of focus, it adds a bit of mystery for me, like the cat and door are linked somehow.

You are not alone bro, I too feel like the 3rd one add a bit for mystery (due the the complimentary colors), second one accurate according to the photography rule like the leading lines of the shutter, surely makes the cat pop out more but the 3rd one adds a story to it.

2 is a bit too in your face. It can work for a straightforward simple portrait, but the crop in 3 sets a scene. Seeing the cat from a bigger distance makes it a complete image, not just a pretty cat. And it turns out the garage door is good on 2 but it's not enough to make it interesting.

3 has the best framing, but it still feels a bit too dark.

u/DapperGuarantee6100 4h ago

🙌 yup, I will lift some shadows a bit

I like the 3rd one best, but both edits look great.  Maybe rotate the image a tiny bit CCW? It looks it's lightly tilted to the rigtht.

Thanks! Yup yeah I need to rotate it a bit
