In this 2013 interview, Camille Paglia declares that Star Wars Episode 3 is the best work of art made in recent times, highlighting and praising the great work done by George Lucas.

Which makes me want to share some thoughts about the Prequels and the Sequels.

While, as everyone knows, the Prequel Trilogy was heavily criticized at the time by both fans and critics, who accused them of being bad movies; however, not only has the passage of time proven otherwise, but the films themselves have demonstrated their value from the beginning, since despite harsh criticism, many people have recognized the value of these three films, like Camille Paglia herself.

Which brings me to something about the Sequel Trilogy.

Sometimes people say that because Sequels are worse movies or because of the hate they receive, the Prequels are considered better for that reason. However, this is completely false; while there may be people who do it with those intentions, the truth is different. Because if that were the case, there wouldn't be statements like Camille's that came out before the Sequels. Even people who have either seen the Sequels or not have praised the Prequels without making any reference to the Disney films, such as James Cameron.

Furthermore, it is also said that the Sequels will probably receive the recognition they deserve in the future, like the Prequels did, but the difference is that the Prequels are good movies, well made, with a purpose, with empathy and heart; while the Sequels are simply soulless, poorly made, made simply to make money and through the ego of two directors. Interestingly, what happened with the Prequels is more similar to the Originals movies, more specifically, the Episodes 5 and 6, which were heavily criticized by fans and critics at the time, but the films themselves and time itself have proven their true value (what does this remind you of?). Plus, since the premiere of Episode 7 or Episode 9, there hasn't even been any news related to the Sequels, even having projects constantly canceled or postponed indefinitely, and the general opinion hasn't changed; while the Prequels, or the Episodes 5 and 6, had a more acceptable reception after its theatrical releases, even having several re-releases in theaters again, like those the Originals had in the 90s, Episode 1 in 2011 or today.

With all this, I just want to make clear the true reception the Prequels had and how, in reality, many people really like them and how their popularity has only grown over time.

Doesn't that sound like something a nine-year-old boy would say to a girl he likes? Sure, it's a bit corny, but it's realistically corny.

George Lucas mentioned that if his sequels had been made, his vision, as well as the entire story he wanted to tell, would finally be complete.

This suggests that he would seek to give a definitive closure to the saga with its sequels, even having a more closed ending than that of Episode 6. It also brings closure to some elements and plots that were left unresolved in both the original films and the prequels.

Something that their statements reveal, like is that the conflict against the Empire would continue after their defeat at Endor, now as the new rebels; the reconstruction of the Republic after the death of Palpatine and the emergence of a new Supreme Chancellor who would be Leia; Luke rebuilding the Jedi Order alongside the survivors of Order 66; the Whills as beings responsible for the most important moments of the saga, as well as being, practically, those who control the universe.

This also suggests that George would have sought to unify the entire saga through the sequels, which would likely have resulted in more plot lines and elements that also received closure. But of course, unfortunately none of this happened.

Therefore, I ask again, do you think that if Lucas had managed to fulfill his vision we would have seen the definitive end of the Star Wars saga?

Although a year has passed since this image regarding Star Wars audiovisual products was published, it's important to remember besides to appreciate, which Star Wars products people usually see, even on their day of celebration, where we can see that the entire Prequel Trilogy is included.

And not only is it in the top 10, but it's surpassing other popular ones; like Episode 2, considered by some to be the worst film of the original saga, ranking above popular series like The Clone Wars and Tales of the Underworld; even above films like Rogue One and Episode 6. Or Episode 1 surpassing Episodes 5 and 3, the latter two being considered the best in the saga.

Which only further demonstrates how these 3 films have been revalued by the many fans as well the general public today, and that despite the fact that there are still people who don't like or continue to hate them; the movies themselves and at the time itself has shown people just how good they truly are. Interestingly, it was similar to what happened with Episodes 5 and 6 during their time.

It dawned on me that a good 90% of the times when I think about Star Wars it's in relation to the Prequel Trilogy Era. I love all 6 Lucas films and I'd have a different favourite film at any point of the week. Some days its ROTJ, other times it can be AOTC.

But for whatever reason my imagination gravitates towards and lingers on Prequel events. Whether its Windu and company attempting to arrest the Senate, Obiwan and Anakin's complex father-son relationship, Quigon's maverick ways, Dooku's political machinations, podracer standings, the myriad of Jedis and their backstories etc.

Given there are at least three generations of fans in this franchise, I was wondering what era you guys fixate on when thinking about Star Wars.

Let me just say at the start that I'm fine with people even having different opinions, having aspects of a franchise they do or don't like. I've been active in many fandoms to some degree for many years, so I'm familiar and comfortable with all of this. That said, out of every fictional property I'm a fan of, Star Wars has the least fun fandom from my perspective. This is largely due to how divided the online fanbase is.

Yes, a lot of it has to do with the prequels. As a prequel fan, I don't mind people not liking them, it's basically impossible to avoid prequel hate in online circles anyways. It's just that in totality, the constant debate over the prequels, and just the franchise in general has gotten very tiresome to me. With most other fandoms, while people certainly have their own opinions, likes and dislikes, you still get the sense most of the fanbase are united in their love for the franchise, and respect for the creators.

Dragon Ball is my favorite franchise, and while the fans will certainly voice their criticisms, and poke fun at the late great Toriyama's flaws and quirks as a writer, they all still love the franchise, respect and appreciate Toriyama, even before he passed. But with Star Wars, it's always felt to me like the fanbase is made up of warring factions. It sucks because it's not just a matter of liking or disliking the OT, The Prequels, the EU, Disney Star Wars. It's that fans have fundamentally different views of the franchise depending on how they feel about those things.

Yes, I'm tired constantly debating over if the prequels ae bad movies. Yes, I'm tired of half or more comments under any prequel related topic on any platform being variations of "prequels suck" "good ideas, bad execution" "Lucas good ideas, bad writer/director" "Midi-Chlorians bad" Honestly, even though I don't like the sequels at all, I can look at the people who like them and feel some pity because it's far worse for them with finding positive discourse on their movies. The prequels do get a good amount of praise online, but they're still very polarizing, the lovers and haters see Star Wars very differently.

And of course, there's the hate for George himself. Look, the man is not perfect as either a person or creator, but when I feel compelled to buy making of books to disprove that he's a hack that just got lucky, or a weirdo who needed everyone else to do all the heavy lifting in work in making his ideas, I take issue with that. Other creators get criticism of course, but it feels like no fanbase has a larger percentage of people that distain their creator like Star Wars. No other franchise has these incessant debates over who deserves credit for what, who truly created the series.

Sorry if this a rambly, or even whiny, but I just get little enjoyment from engaging with the Star Wars fandom and do so very little compared to others . To sum it up, everyone has their own ideas on what Star Wars should be, everyone disagrees, and everyone hates each other. It's making more and more sense to me why I just enjoy the original six movies and stay disengaged with everything else.
