Discussion Topic All these quakes
Good for the server?
Bad for the server?
Feels like there's 1-2 every week recently.

Considering there are a lot of end-game content players on each server, raid targets are their primary source of fun/action. So I'd say more quakes is fine.

issue is vulak keeps getting killed at 5 AM by unemployed people

That’s been a feature of p99 since a week after Velious released on Blue like 10+ years ago

vulak is never killed in off-hours on blue server

u/bammergump 13d ago
I haven’t played in 5+ years or however long it’s been since we woke sleeper on blue but Vulak damn sure didn’t stay up long back then

vulak can be up for like 24 hours now, most recent quake had most of ntov untouched the next day (kills started slowly at about 11 am edt), and even then vulak wasn't until 9 pm
also bosses on blue give your guild ownership of them for a full hour if you get fte

Too frequent and too many on weekdays.
In all seriousness I don’t mind it. I think I lot of people left for EQlegends so trying to compete and maybe get player base to not forget about p99. I wish we could get the dungeons packed and exp flowing again though with pickup groups.

Rotating or based on zone usage?

They should rotate to specific dungeons 2x EXP. That last holiday event had tower popping.

I’d much rather see community events than just quaking the server twice a week.
Putting my tinfoil hat on, this feels like they’re speed running the death of the server so rogean can get everyone to play EQL so he can make money

I don't disagree with your suspicion overall, but why would 2 quakes a week mean death to the server?

Constant quakes leads to burnout imo. Depending on your guild each quake is about a 6 hour commitment. Most responsible adults would be hard pressed to say they can do that twice a week w/o any drawbacks from family, work, sleep, mental health, physical health, etc. Obviously, it is a game and no one forces you to play.

6 hours till burn out? This is the server that camped 18 hour windows for a year without quakes

Love the enthusiasm. I kinda like the Saturday morning cartoon format over weekday but not gonna complain about more opportunities for content.
Orthone: you make a wonderful explanation on why it’s a bad idea. Please make CT into a PoSky Bee anyway 😂😂😂

I haven’t played for awhile… can you explain?

My understanding is that quakes are meant to simulate server repops that happened fairly frequently back during the 99-03 time. I've heard they always happened on Tuesdays, but all I really remember is that there were usually some sort of weekly patch, release, unexpected downtime, etc.
Quakes on the green server are absolute chaos but are fun. It's basically each of the top raiding guilding racing to get the first engage on their preferred raid targets, so it's highly competitive and the players treat it that way, as a competition. There's a server mechanic that tracks who gets aggro first then that players guild gets the rights to kill it. Oh, but if you lose aggro and mob resets, then another player could pick it up passing the kill rights to another guild. Then as targets drop it basically ends with a jockeying towards to Vulak engage. That part gets more complicated and Vulak itself has its own mini game, enforced by the GMs on how gets first engage. Actually there are several mobs in game that have their own GM enforced rules of engagement. It's not something I experienced on live, but it's quite fun.

What do you mean by quakes?

u/VdubGolf 14d ago
A quake is when the server is repopped. All raids among other things respawn at once.

It looks like an earthquake in game, your screen shakes and a server wide message says something about the gods awaking to reign chaos over Norrath, get somewhere safe.
Then maybe 20 seconds later everything repops. Mobs which have a ph could be spawned as the named mob or the PH, but raid targets don’t have PH’s so they all respawn.
The entire server rushes to kill the most valuable of these targets.

I like quakes because it uses the chaos to bring order.
Quake happens, everyone scrambles, a fun 6 hours happens for those into those sorts of things. And you’re left with peace across the land to do whatever you want on your characters because there is nothing to scramble, track, race for the next 72 hours.
Vs nattys you’re stuck staring at spawn points for hours to see all that time wasted because another guild was faster.
Downside is if you miss it you’ve now missed everything for the next 72 hours+. No matter what time they quake, probably 2/3 the server is angry at the chosen time. WFH crew like the day, weekend warriors like the weekend, and euros probably hate them all.

There could never be too many quakes. It’s good for literally everyone.

As someone with a lifetime 8% raid attendance, I don’t really care if they quake twice as much: my raid attendance will just be 4%.

Just somebody who doesn't even play p99 here, but could you explain to me what a quake is? The context I've gathered is it's just a server reset and potentially refreshes mob/boss spawns or something?
1
u/UnfairObject 11d ago
its a server reset but without the server going down, theres server wide yellow text and the screen shakes. all bosses are up so everyone races to kill. on green everything dies in 5-6 hours

u/Anakin-vs-Sand 13d ago
The double quake the other day was amazing. No, I don’t want that often, but it was a blast.
We can’t always be that exhausted but the folks that raided all day had such a good time

u/ParzivalD 13d ago
Frequency is great but I wish blue wasn't getting screwed on timing. Green gets a Sunday afternoon quake and Blue gets a 9pm Monday night quake.
Keep up the quakes but give both servers good timing.
