Tips for reducing stimulus on walks

I'm wondering what tips you all have for reducing stimulus on walks. I'm asking because my dog gets amped up when it is loud (cars driving in rain), along with the other regular triggers like dogs, bikes, kids that are too close for his comfort. We try to stick to trails, but sometimes we don't have the time so we will walk him around town. We're unfortunately on a busy road.

My dog is triggered by big vehicles (delivery trucks, buses, garbage trucks, etc.). Exposure helped a bit. I would purposely take walks near the road when I was ready for a reaction to happen and would reward her for keeping her attention on me when cars approached. She still reacts at times but it’s less severe. We can walk near the road pretty fine most times.

I’m thinking to do similar with kids at some point. Take her where she can see them run in a distance and reward. Since the school year started we expect to see more kids outside and she gets agitated when they run by.
