You’re not missing much. It has great action sequences and choreography. Otherwise, it’s alright.

Besides the 4(?)th and final one the writing is pretty meh. But worth watchin for the action scenes if you like them

The plot is pretty generic, yeah.

An ex-assassin getting revenge.

But the dialogue is pretty well written in the films and there's a lot of smaller clever stuff.

Like how at one point how Wick is gonna storm a nightclub to get his target and recognizes the bouncer.

He gets the drop on the guy and asks the bouncer how he has been lately, even commenting on the bouncer's weight loss, and tells him to take the night off and the bouncer leaves.

But, if you pay attention to how many pounds the bouncer claims to have loss, it matches up with the number of enemies Wick later faces inside of the club.

So what looked like Wick chatting with an old acquantance before letting him go was actually an interrogation on the forces Wick would face inside, presumably one that would have turned lethal had the bouncer not cooperated.

But it's a blink or you miss it thing.

There's several such things in the films, alongside plenty of one-liners that ended up classics.
