I used to watch Red Dwarf semi-regularly, and only on a recent re-watch did I finally notice a few things about the music:

The two songs Lister sings (and hums) in Season 1 are just different parts of the same song - Ganymede and Titan is a line from Lunar City Seven.

In "Thanks for the Memory" Rimmer's dream song Someone to watch over me is the same song he drunkenly starts singing moments before falling asleep.

In "Parallel Universe" the disco music is the instrumental track from Tongue Tied from the same episode.

Are there any other interesting facts about music in the show that I've likely missed?

i’m a costume design student and one of my topics is to create an entire outfit inspired by someone or something. of course i chose Cat.

i already have an overall idea — animal print, fur, loafers, a lot of layers, mixing different textures

but is there anything i should add? absolutely ANYTHING that screams Cat? 🐈‍⬛

Chris is doing a signing in Derby today, so I went along. Had a nice chat, got an autograph and selfie with him - what a guy!

My husband and I got together because of a Talkie Toaster joke when we met, working in a kitchen, 9 years ago. It has always been sort of the background of our relationship (this morning, going out to walk the dog at 5am, i said 'It's cold outside'... You know what followed). And every night we take turns to pick the episode to fall asleep to.

It varies but my husband's favourite for this purpose is The End, mine is Backwards. I think these are both relatively quiet episodes, maybe that's why. These are not our favourite episodes to actually watch, which I think is part of the reasoning (I can never sleep to Timeslides for example, because I absolutely have to see Rimmers 'I ask myself, who is the rich man?' speech, still cracks me up.)

Interested to know if other people are doing this and what their choices are!

Thank you. I've been watching Red Dwarf for decades and your high pitched burst of laughter always brings a smile to my face. I know you'll never see this but how much you must have enjoyed seeing the action live and absolutely loving it makes this episode in particular one of my favourites. You were absolutely loving it.

I’m rewatching it at the moment, episode one and it’s just reminded me I had no idea what I was doing on my German written exam at high school and end up writing repeatedly “Ich bin eine Fisch” repeatedly thinking I was hilarious! 🤣

Rimmer actually didn't have a half decent physique

Hugely important for me to say this first, I love RD. it’s comforting, I have immense memories as a kid in my mates house who’s older brother had what seemed like hundreds of VHS’ of it. It will always be with me and I love it. But after a number of years away from it I recently watched a couple of episodes again… and it just wasn’t funny 😔 (S2 RD as well). I found it comforting, as mentioned, and I enjoyed it. But fuck me it wasn’t funny at all. My fondness got me through, not the comedy.

Has anyone else experienced this? Maybe it’s just dated and tame these days.
