Gadgets and Tools Redding X10 issues
Recently bought a Redding X10 competition powder measure to replace my Lee deluxe perfect powder measure. I like using the Lee, but I wanted a powder measure with a continuous adjustment knob and more consistency. However to my dismay the $250 Redding is performing worse than the $70 Lee. Not only was it more difficult to setup and use, but it was less precise than the Lee. I tried following the instruction manual and fully disassembling and cleaning it but it did not help. Has anyone else had this experience? Could my unit be defective or is there something I’m overlooking?

You using extruded powder?

No, flattened ball powder. Hodgdon Longshot and CFE to be specific

That's odd for most powder throwers. Powders sticking to the walls or inside the chamber, possibly static holding it in place?

The Lee even though known as a budget powder measure does fairly well with extruded powder because it has a rubber sweep that pulls clean rather than other measures that tend to cut extruded powder grains when the powder measure closes.

I have an older model of the same. I use it for pistol rounds with ball powder and it works great. I haven’t tried it for anything else. In my rifles I use an auto tricker.

Works better with ball powder in my experience.
Any extruded powder causes issues with the grains getting caught up.
Ball powder I usually get spot on. Extruded is off by at least .2 and as much as a whole grain sometimes.
No idea how to fix it. If you find a fix let me know.

Weird. Maybe it’s harder to get a consistent throw/motion on the new one for you if you have muscle memory/history with your old one?

Please define, "harder to set up"...every powder measure I've used...granted only 5 different brands/models...have set up the same way.
How is it harder to use?
Dont you just bring the case to it and rotate the handle?
What kinds of variations are you getting that makes it less precise?
