Hello ! I am a Swiss independent designer-jeweller based in Vevey and I am creating a packaging for jewellery.

In the packing I would like to have all 4 official languages as well as English for tourists, and I am struggling to find someone to correct my Romansh translation… it is only a few words, I thought I should try to contact you and you might be able to help.

I can pay for a translation if needed. It needs to be the dialect used by the government / in official documents. In bold are the parts I need help checking.

How would one define Romansh culture? The other language groups have a much larger presence in the world (French, Italian, German.) But what really defines Romansh culture—is it akin to say Italian sensibilities given its Latinate connection?

I am looking to learn Sursilvan Romansh. However, I am broke (so I can't afford private lessons), haven't found anyone who could speak it, and my German is bad (although my French is decent). Any options? Thanks.

I am really curious to discover what are the local words for "woods" in different areas that speak the Romansh language.

The following scenario was extracted from a point about Ladin, a relative of Romansh:

A Ladin from Val Gardena and a Ladin from Val Badia can understand each other, but with difficulty. Their dialects are distinct. When the linguists created Ladin Dolomitan, they essentially created a "neutral" form that is no one's mother. The result?

• The Gardena speaker thinks: "This is not my Gherdëina. Why should I abandon my valley's speech for this hybrid?"
• The Badia speaker thinks the same.
• Both look at the standard and see not a salvation, but an erasure.

They then make the calculation: If I have to learn an artificial standard, why not just learn Italian? At least Italian is useful. This is the death spiral of the "compromise" standard.

In the long run from now, how are such cultures supposed to survive?

The languages from Portugal, Spain & Italy have in common the utilization of localization adverbs to communicate via a similar scale of distance that something is somewhere in space & time:

Italiano: Qui, qua, quivi/ivi/vi, lì, là, e colà.

The Hispanic versions have an initial letter "a" for some interesting reason:

Español: Aquí, acá, ahí, allí, allá, y acullá.

The Portuguese versions are a mix of the Italian versions with the Hispanic versions for some interesting reason:

Português: Aqui, acá/cá, aí, ali, lá, e acolá.

This is a word by word parallel translation in English:

English: Here (close), here (general), there (general), there (close), there (far), & yonder.

I'm struggling to understand the difference of the dialects spoken. Anyone know which dialect is spoken in the valley of Val Lumnezia ? Particularly around the villages maybe around Cubel? Trun? Would like to find out. My great grandpa was from there.

Does anybody know any good shows on RTR that aren't too hard to understand so I can improve my listening comprehension?

I've thought of creating a server dedicated to Romansh, I wonder though if there's gonna be any interest in that?

Or -dur and -der suffixes in general. RG seems to use them interchangeably based on the little data I can find:

Pledari gives "giugadur" as a translation for player, but "giugader da ballape" for football player. The Romansh Wikipedia uses both giugader(s) and giugadur(s) in comparable amounts without a discernible pattern to it.

Are they completely interchangeable, is there a meaning or regional nuance?

Does the same apply to all agent nouns in der/dur?

Also, just to confirm: these words are stressed as giugàder and giugadùr, correct?

am 30.07.2025 beginnt die Swiss AI Initiative (ETH und EPFL) mit der Erfassung von Rumantsch-Daten, um ein Sprachmodell (ein LLM – ähnlich wie ChatGPT) zu trainieren. Ein Ziel dieses Projekts ist es, dass das Modell Rumantsch versteht – und sogar zwischen den verschiedenen Idiomen unterscheiden kann! Dieses Modell wird schlussendlich öffentlich zugänglich gemacht, damit die gesamte Rumantschia davon profitiert.

Wir wissen, dass Übersetzungsarbeit anstrengend sein kann. Deshalb möchten wir einen Anreiz in Form von Preisen schaffen. Ab dem 30.07.2025 wird es jede Woche eine Rangliste geben. Diese wird basierend auf der Anzahl der übersetzten Wörter pro Woche berechnet. Die Personen auf dem „Podest“ erhalten Preise.

Bright path, take me home. -> I think "Senda clara, guida mei a casa." is alright?

Unity of strength and beauty -> From what I found, I guess ''Unitad da forza e bellezia" is good enough but just wanted to make sure.

Forward to our common future. -> Perhaps "Anavon nos avegnir communabel"?

Hello Romansh speakers, I need your help for an assignment.

How can I say "John doesn't eat fish" in Romansh?
Is the negation placed before or after the verb? The book that I'm using gives examples were the negation is postverbal, for example "Eu sai beka" (central Romansh), "Kwela diuna play a mi buk" (western Romansh), but also both preverbal and postverbal "Ke co nu fatschi britch".

All dialects are accepted, any help is appreciated:)
