There has been a big upswing in personal attacks, rudeness, hostility, and all-around bad behavior in this subreddit. It's really easy to dig in your heels, dehumanize the people on the other side of the screen, and post vitriol, but that's not acceptable in this space. We're all here because we love a board game and we want to share that love with other people who think Root is special. We need to protect the culture, so I'm asking users to do the following two things to keep this a nice place to be:
I've just been removing comments and posts individually, but the sub is going to be issuing temporary bans for nasty posts and comments going forward.
Thanks for helping make r/rootgame a lovely place to be.

Hi, I'm from Argentina and i was intrested in buying root from Amazon.
I found this post: https://a.co/d/09qT57z5
Is it a scam or a counterfeit seller?

A little confused because it doesn’t have frog cards included in the little icon. I thought I could but just asking to be extra safe. Thanks!!

With our final five strongest animals in the Woodland, only the most difficult fights will remain. Our semifinalists are:
Last Dynasty, as the most powerful and ancient bird in the Woodland, this dynasty has seen all types of warfare. None of them work against them.
Keeper in Iron, the keepers have dealt with all types of rats, arsonists were of little change.
Scoundrel, against a solo mercenary, a small grumpy and agile cat with dangerous weapons and large assortment of bombs could easily bulldoze the otter.
Arbiter, an exiled bear of old versus the single greatest sword fighter in the world was pondering but simple fight. The bear has been exiled back to the woods.
Although the Scoundrel did get some fairly easy matchups, I think these placements still make a lot of sense. This is a tournament measuring their canonical strength.

Busted out the airbrush and got to work! It’s a cute family portrait of our family as our favorite faction meeples.
And, it’s the perfect size to cover up an ugly spot on our wall!

I need to update my address for my Kickstarter order and I’ve used their website. The kicker starter email I had too but no one is getting back to me?
Has anyone received their Eryie Plush? Just want to get my address updated before they ship it!

I was playing as crows and on track to win if it weren't for the badgers, who could score faster than me and had somewhat good board presence. They did leave some warriors at a clearing with a snare, so I took my chance. I destroyed one outpost with a bomb and the other two through battle. They had no other warriors then besides the ones on the snare.
At first it felt good, like a setback they'd overcome next turn by battling me, giving me enough tempo to score a bunch before they regrouped. But was I wrong... I didn't realize they didn't have the right suit in battle (not even bird).
It took them three turns to finally break free, and when they did it was too late. I won on my next turn through a bomb that destroyed some gardens from lizards.
They were a good sport about it tho, I apologized and they said it was fine.
All this on Root digital ofc.

Thinking of getting this to expand 2 player options. How are 2 player games with cats vs badgers, cats vs rats, birds vs badgers, birds vs rats, badgers vs rats? Or is there another expansion to look into for 2 player play?
r/rootgame • u/Tom_The_TOOT • 1d ago
Did your option survive? In round 3 of the tournament, only the strongest remain:
Last Dynasty, the most powerful warrior of old, against the very empire that wronged them, the rage enough ended the fight
Woodland Alliance, the Duchy are strong, but guerilla warfare can topple and exhaust almost any foe
Riverfolk, the council have very poor combat skills, the Riverfolk do not
Scoundrel, a raccoon with a knife versus a cat with the Woodlands equivalent of a bomb, this battle was written in its own ashes
Gladiator, a master of duels versus a speedy highway bandit is a difficult fight to win, but in the coliseum again, the goose claims victory
The Exile, a simple farmer is not enough to stop a force of nature, the duck knew that, and ran in horror
Arbiter, although the Ronin is a swift and powerful warrior, the most dangerous mercenary in the Woodland is not something to trifle with like this raccoon did
Flame Bearer, like he did to his brethren, he burns the raven, hatred burning in his eyes
Keeper in Iron, the Diaspora has learned from the Keepers, but not how to counter their devout goal of victory

Hallo zusammen,
Vielen Dank!
Schreiben
Hello everyone,
does anyone know if, or when, the upcoming Root: Homeland Expansion will be released in German?
I'm also wondering whether the new Hirelings and the new deck will receive a German localization as well.
Have there been any official announcements from Spielworxx, Quality Beast, or Leder Games regarding this?
Thanks in advance!

The outcome of the battles are:
Marquise de Cat, as they are far more trained, they crushed the Forest Patrolman
Last Dynasty, as one of the most powerful warriors of old the New Eyrie warrior was crushed like a morsel
Woodland Alliance, with the far less skilled and trained Spring Uprising, acquired an easy win
Underground Duchy, dealing with a measly scout, the expedition stood no chance
Twilight Council, in a battle of wits, the master has won
Riverfolk Company, as the battle commenced, the zealous lizard stood there preaching their faith, nothing more
Scoundrel, the Vagrant could sew hate, but could not withstand its flaming punishment
Thief, against a tinkering little beaver a few quick jabs were enough
Flame Bearer, their counterpart untouched by the beauty of the flame, was forced to learn
Corvid Spy, with pure bulk and wit, the poor crow never stood a chance
Keeper in Iron, some pathetic squires wouldn’t stand in the way of these devout knights
Lilypad Diaspora, learning new techniques from their non frog friends, the diaspora warrior could hold their ground
The Exile, fight a little skunk, The Shunned One bonked him on the head
Prosperous Farmer, a flute is no match for a rake
Arbiter, in a long and grueling fight, the injured Arbiter barely came out on top, against the greatest ranger in the Woodland
Ronin, when fighting one that only really came for the adventure and exhilaration of the fight, the Ronin ended this battle swiftly
Harrier, the cheat couldn’t talk himself out of this mess, arrows are louder than words
Gladiator, with many years of combat in the arena, a cocky warthog didn’t stand a chance

I've been brainstorming Root fan factions recently and I had an idea - what if every faction ended up as a Vagabond? I've got some ideas drawn up for every faction, and here they are! Each one is meant to reflect their original faction in some way, but since each faction needs a reason for defecting, it led to some characters have abilities that directly oppose their original gimmick.
I had a thought that these could be played if the original faction isn't in the game (e.g. picking Deposed when no-one is Marquise) similar to hirelings. Untested as of yet but fun brainstorm nonetheless! Let me know your thoughts!

Hello! I am pretty new to ROOT (This was my fifth game ever) and I have sentenced myself to only play with the Marquise de Cat until I win a game as them, terrible idea, I know. I felt like I got better after every horrible defeat I faced, and I think I managed to play my best game yet (still lost quite badly, however)

For the first time, I actually crafted cards as the marquise, those being Cobbler and Command Warren for the extra actions (but I feel like I couldn't use them very effectively).
At the end, the Lord of the Hundreds attacked my chokepoints with all his warriors, and destroyed everything I had because he could battle as much as he wanted with all the prowess and command he had accumulated with his enormous hoard (I don't know how to counter the rats, this was our first game with them). It didn't help that the Eyrie player was very new and it was his first time playing as the birds, so he turmoiled on turn 3, so he wasn't much help against the Lord of the Hundreds (although they did manage to kill the warlord once, so props to them).
Now, it's probably impossible to give me tips based on a shitty recreation of what I think the board looked like at one point and a photo of the aftermath, showing my collapsed marquisate, so I just have a few questions to ask.
Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated!

My group has been playing Root regularly for quite a while, and we recently started ranking our games by win rate. (Inclusive, if you have any suggestions for how we could rank our games, I’m open to ideas. We also have a simple rule: at least 3 players from our group must be present for the game to count.)
We have reached a point where we are considering bringing a small notebook to the table to write down strategies and important plays.
I know a lot can change depending on what each player does, but usually everyone comes up with a strategy at the end of their turn and then adapts it until their next turn based on what happens during the other players’ turns.
Do you think taking notes like this is actually useful, or are we taking the hobby too seriously?
.
.
.
Side note: We recently played Twilight Imperium 4th Edition, which is extremely competitive and requires a lot of planning, and somehow we also didn’t feel anything quite like the feeling we get in Root: DOMINATING THE WOODLAND AND ESTABLISHING THE ONLY CORRECT REGIME: MINE.
For some reason, Root is the game that brings out this level of chaos in us.

Dont worry, I found them

Hey everyone! We had a rule debate during our game tonight, and the answer decides who wins.
Does the Warlord have to move into a clearing to take the Battle action, or can he Battle in his current clearing without moving first?
Here is the situation: If moving isn't mandatory, the Lord of the Hundreds player cleans out the clearing where the Warlord is currently located. This gives them 1 VP for destroying the enclave and allows them to rule 6 clearings for an additional 4 VP, securing the win.
Any help referencing the Law of Root on this would be greatly appreciated!

French fanfaction "les forestiers" (The foresters).
Any advices on balancing ? Thanks !
EDIT : It needs 12 red meeples, and the back just says "draw 1 card and put it on the "dirigeants" column, then place the 5 bases on their track".

Who will win? In this tournament, every warrior (besides Riverfolk hirelings, I don’t have them yet) will fight to claim their power as the most powerful lore-accurate warrior in Root. Furious Protector will be our referee because he is FAR too strong to compete. All vagabond meeples are knave captains instead. Here are our competitors:
Marquise de Cat: This proud warrior has trained well and can overwhelm any foe with enough manpower. Sadly, this is a one-on-one duel
Forest Patrol: These officers were trained by the marquise to survey conquered territory. Whether they are older veterans, new recruits, or just some kittens drafted into the army, these cats are a force to reckon with.
Eyrie Dynasties: A young, strong warrior of the New Dynasty, this warrior has gone through vigorous and elite training to join one of the most powerful armies in the Woodland.
Last Dynasty: When the marquise seized the Woodland from the Eyrie not all of the old dynasties were destroyed. The Last Dynasty harbors the most powerful warriors to ever live.
Woodland Alliance: Trained in guerilla warfare, this warrior fights for the biggest revolt the Woodland has ever seen. This powerful, bread-eating mouse is a force to reckon with.
Spring Uprising: A smaller revolt, with identical goals as the alliance, fight for the glory of their village in glorious combat.
Lizard Cult: A dysfunctional cult of zealous lizards, this reptile wants to prove itself a messenger of The Great Dragon in the Sky in righteous battle.
Riverfolk Company: A group of traveling merchants & mercenaries, the Riverfolk want to prove their mercenaries powerful in the this grand tournament.
Underground Duchy: Rallied under the power of the ministers, this lone warrior represents the untied Underworld. The lords will be proud.
Sunward Expedition: A skirmishing group of scouts, the Sunward Expedition establish footholds for the inevitable expansion of the Duchy.
Corvid Conspiracy: The crow harbingers of havoc, the conspiracy is going undercover at this tournament as… a crow! Although not the smartest, they’re dangerous indeed!
Corvid Spies: A secret corvid organization, wearing goggles to keep their identities a secret. These elite ravens are master of cheats and lies, they are much bulkier than their crow brethren, but it’s anyone’s game!
Lord of the Hundreds: Although Warlord Gorgonzola will not be competing, he has sent his Lieutenant Dribbles to battle in his name. The hundreds are fierce animals to deal with, stay wary of their prowess.
Flame Bearers: An unchecked mob with the backing of several Hundreds warriors, these arsonist rats will burn anything they get their grubby little hands on, even each other!
Keepers in Iron: Devout knights of old, this ancient and divine order of ironclad cannibal badgers have excavated nearly the entire Ancient War.
Vault Keepers: Keepers of all of The knight’s relics, these squires, worthy of knighthood are masters of defense and engineering.
Popular Band: The Woodland’s most famous band of sly weasels don’t have much experience fighting, but their tunes might be enough to persuade the enemy against their defeat.
Lilypad Diaspora: Immigrants from the rainforests, the diaspora are powerful warriors who have resorted to peace. Only really trying to integrate their culture into the Woodland, what better event than the Woodland Root Tournament to participate?
River Roamers: Off-branched enclaves, the River Roamers rarely mingle non-aquatic species, but who could say no to being part of the tournament of the century?
Twilight Council: Peace-brokers only striving to complete one goal. Monitor all other animals and stoping anymore war from breaking out. Although not the strongest fighters, the council are amazing diplomats.
Sunny Advocates: Messengers of the council, the advocates maintain & govern areas already controlled by the Twilight Council.
Knaves of Deepwood: Along with all of their captains, this lone bandit wants to prove themselves a voice of the people & a protector of the weak.
The Exile: An exile from the Woodland, this bear needs to prove himself worthy of rejoining the Woodland.
Prosperous Farmers: Only here to market their product, Quack-Bread, the farmers are funding and competing in this competition.
Knave Captains:
Thief: Sneaky and agile fighter that relies on weak opponents to prosper
Tinker: A crafty beaver with very little combat training.
Ranger: Immensely talented captain that is a veteran of several conflicts passed.
Arbiter: One of the most powerful mercenaries in the Woodland. Now leading the knaves, this badger is the bane of any land he crosses through.
Scoundrel: A psychotic cat likely raised by rats or crows.
Vagrant: A possum who is highly skilled at sewing the seeds of conflict. Not skilled at conflict themself.
Ronin: A swift raccoon of an ancient order, master of the ambush.
Adventurer: A wise and nimble owl obsessed with the Ancient War from ages ago.
Harrier: The fastest animal on the Woodland. Capable of sprinting across forest in mere minutes.
Cheat: A sly weasel that will talk himself out of almost any situation.
Gladiator: A master of duels and tournaments. A force on the battlefield.
Jailor: Once warden, this warthog now imprisons his former bosses for ransom.
