Rusting Russian
Does anyone have any tips on reducing the rusting on Russian Blues coats? I understand this is from her licking this area but I’m not sure if there is anyway to reduce the colour change.

It is normaal and if it is not a show cat, who cares? It is a little tan line. She is beautiful the way she is!!

It's mostly from sun exposure... it's the equivalent of a suntan/burn. See those open windows? Mine don't sunbathe much at all. I've only had a slight bit of rusting once. Saliva "can" make them rust, but sunbathing is the main culprit. A cat would probably need to be an excessive groomer (likely have anxiety) for them to rust like that.

Ahhh that makes sense! She loves sitting in the sun watching birds out the window

Don’t take that happiness away from her just to make her tan fade, plsssss 🥹

Of course not!!! Seems like her tan is going to be a fairly permanent thing which I’m so fine with.

Mine had this a little on his head when he was a baby - left overs from being groomed by mom and then sun bathing in the window I think.
I took a clean damp soft toothbrush, and a little no rinse cat shampoo and brushed him out and then dried him off throughly with a towel (I also did it at night so he was dry before he was able to window bask again) then the rusty patch was gone. I think it’s oxidation of the saliva left from grooming.
We also have a north facing house with a very shady yard, so we don’t get a lot of bright sun in the house. Terrible for plants, great for keeping the house cool in the summer. So I am not sure if your kitty just has a tan because of your lovely bright windows there and it will come back because they bask a lot.

I’ve never seen this before and didn’t know it was a thing. My RB is 14 years old and she doesn’t have any rust. I wonder what causes it?

My baby is diabetic and has a small little rusty patch on her back around her shoulders from where we need to wipe her with alcohol before her needle. It’s so cute to me!

Mine had loads and I was told by the breeder is happens with grooming and then oxidation. Happens more when they are being groomed by the mom. Mine gor fixed on its own.
