Sunderland have beaten Premier League rivals Crystal Palace in the race to sign Lyon winger Malick Fofana.

The Athletic reported earlier today that Palace were working to hijack Sunderland’s move for the 21-year-old winger.

Sunderland had reached an agreement to sign the Belgium international in a deal worth in excess of €30million (£25.7m), including bonuses, a deal Palace also agreed with the French club.

Sunderland have reached an agreement to sign Lyon winger Malick Fofana.

The paperwork over a move to the north east still needs to be completed but a deal is on track before Tuesday night’s deadline.

The Athletic reported on Monday that Arsenal were weighing up a move for the 21-year-old, who has been on the club’s radar and had spoken with Mikel Arteta.

Sunderland have agreed a deal worth just under £30m for Lyon winger Malick Fofana.

The 21-year-old is travelling to England for a medical and is expected to sign a five-year contract.

The deal for the Belgium forward will cost an initial £25.6m, with a potential £4.3m in add-ons.

Fofana is understood to be excited by the prospect of joining Sunderland before their first European campaign in 51 years, having qualified for the Europa League.

The move follows attempts by Arsenal to sign Fofana, but the Premier League champions were unable to agree a fee with Lyon.

Fofana began his career at KAA Gent before joining the Ligue 1 side in 2024. 

He is set to join Kevin Danso at Sunderland, with the Austria defender due to arrive from Tottenham on an initial loan with an option to buy.

Sunderland have also signed defenders Thomas Meunier and Dayann Methalie, and midfielder Jules Ahoka, this summer after finishing seventh in their first season back in the top flight.

The Black Cats beat Fulham on Sunday after losing their opening match of the 2026-27 season at Ipswich.

Hello everyone. I’m a SAFC supporter from the US. We will be in London on Saturday and want to try to take in our first Premier League match and I had a few questions:

1. ⁠I see away game tickets are sold out, is it possible to purchase them online? I saw this is “forbidden” but don’t know if it’s enforced.
   
2. ⁠Would it be worth calling the club to see if any tickets have been returned?
   
3. ⁠Is there anything I should know in advance about being a visiting team supporter in Brentford?

I'm torn between the L and XL and the listing on the site only shows chest and waist measurements.
