Upcoming Mono Culture night in Glasgow (Jungle/ DnB)
Yo troops, hope you are all well and keeping it real out there.
Recently Glasgow has been enjoying a mild uptake in terms of DnB events- something which it much needed to be honest! I am putting on a couple of nights across the city, and plan to do my bit for the local scene by making it regular- here's the link for one in November if anyone is interested. It's a fundraiser for charity (details on the event page below)
Please forgive the promotion- but I'm looking to make this a bigger thing so I need to spread the word far and wide!
In addition to the Mono Culture events keep an eye out for Pray To Good, Bass Injection, Midnight Bass, Rave.Gla and Cenote Sounds- who all have shows coming up too

Best 80s Scottish album? What's your most loved/least fave on Lloyd Cole & the Commotions' Rattlesnakes? -We Will Rank You
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
What's your most favorite and least-loved songs on Lloyd Cole and the Commotions' debut classic Rattlesnakes? Mister Cole politely declined to rank his own record but you can hear him kindly chime in on our Highway 61 Revisited episode. Even better, we got Camera Obscura's Tracyanne Campbell to tell us her favorites along with Mike Remoll, the Cool Brother Hall of Famer that introduced Jim to the Commotions 40 years ago (stay tuned & listen post-credits!). Hear it at WeWillRankYouPod.com, Apple, Spotify, Youtube and on Charlotte Street.

Upcoming Drum & Bass gig in Glasgow! 26/09/26
Yo troops, thought some of you might be interested in this one.
The Glasgow D&B scene is very small, so I'm hoping to raise awareness of a night which I am putting on at The Poetry Club on the 26th of September this year!
There will be original music, DJs and dancers- with styles of Drum & Bass such as liquid, jungle, rollers and more!
Tickets can be found here:
https://ra.co/events/2501160
There's limited space in the venue, so maybe worth tapping into the early bird tickets to avoid disappointment!
Hope to see some of you there

The Ballad of the Piper MacDonald
I wrote this tune over a decade ago. Fun little story I thought I'd tell.
A world musician, who was the closest thing I ever had to a mentor, regularly graced me with time on his stage. I already played a lot of Irish folk at the time. He liked the way I performed folk songs, especially wordy ballads.. so he suggested I write a wordy ballad based on the Phantom Piper of Castle Duntrune.
The printed section shown on the sheet was all the progress I made in a week. I had a solid concept, and had been studying the Piper between his shows. I showed him what I had come up with and he said I should play it.
Dude.. it isn't finished. Doesn't matter, he still wanted to hear it later in the evening when my time to play came up. Alone in a booth at "Arizona's oldest Irish pub", I scribbled down the rest of the song in around an hour or so.
Time to play arrived. So here I have this new folk song I just wrote, but have never played, with nary a music stand about. Another performer* who regularly sat in with him to accompany his fiddle with her bodhran got drafted into helping. So I'm standing up on stage and this person is just holding the sheet in front of me. It went great, and the song remains my most requested.
Here is a video of me performing the song somewhat more recently, accompanied by the aforementioned bodhran player: https://youtu.be/e_41dKxC8IQ?is=z82AVCl5mIS-MfQI

Finally starting to get that hip hop sound
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I've been failing at it for years. I was making some made up genre but last night I managed to get this together which sounds more hip hop than any of my other attempts. Picked up a few tips along the way too so I'm chuffed with how this one has turned out.
Slowly starting to get the hang of mastering too, although that's my weakest area. I can botch one together though so it's not so bad.
I've progressed a fair bit with my productions this year. Been putting in a heap of time and effort and its beginning to pay off. It's the finer details I tend to struggle with at times but I'm getting my head around them bit by bit.
